Regimental Headquarters Army Training Regiment Grantham Prince William of Gloucester Barracks GRANTHAM Lincolnshire NG31 7TF Telephone 0115 957 3151 Military 94452 3151 Fax 0115 957 3243 Military 94452 3243 MESSAGE FROM THE COMMANDING OFFICER OF THE ARMY TRAINING REGIMENT GRANTHAM Lieutenant Colonel GCGR Stone Welsh Guards Congratulations on being selected for a place on the Phase 1(B) Course at the Army Training Regiment Grantham (ATR(G)). ATR(G) is the Army s newest regiment and the first hybrid, all arms training establishment staffed by both Regular and Reserve instructors. This Regiment and the course that you are to undertake is the fruition of work being undertaken that brings the Regular Army and the Army Reserve into One Army. Successful completion of this course will see you joining a busy Army currently involved in operations in East and West Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia. The Army Reserve is fully involved in this activity and you could well find yourself deploying after your training is complete. On arrival at Grantham you will be assigned to a Section of up to 11 other Army Reserve Recruits. On this course your instructors will predominantly be Regular JNCOs. They will have a wealth of experience, both on operations and in the training environment. They are here to support you through the course and impart their considerable knowledge and military skills. The course will demand much of you in the field and in barracks. As on your Phase 1(A) the key to passing this course is preparation, a determination to succeed and a sense of humour. You and your unit will have received generic joining instructions to prepare you for your Phase 1(B) course. This letter, with its annex, will fill in the gaps pertinent to your time at Grantham. I wish you the best of luck with the course. GCGR STONE Lieutenant Colonel Commanding Officer Annex A. Army Training Regiment Grantham (ATR (G)) Common Military Syllabus (CMS) Reserves 2014 - Phase 1 (Bravo) Recruit Joining Instructions (JIs).

ANNEX A TO ATR(G) PHASE1(B) JIs ARMY TRAINING REGIMENT GRANTHAM (ATR (G)) COMMON MILITARY SYLLABUS (CMS) RESERVES 2014 - PHASE 1 (BRAVO) RECRUIT JOINING INSTRUCTIONS (JIs) 1. You have been selected to attend a consolidated CMS 14 Reserves Phase 1(Bravo) Course (Ph1(B)) which will be delivered by the Army Training Regiment(Grantham) (ATR(G)). The course will take place at Prince William of Gloucester Barracks (PWOG Bks) in Grantham, Lincolnshire. The dates of your course will be listed in the pack that you will have received via your parent unit. You must now confirm your availability to attend the complete course with your unit staff as soon as possible! 2. These Joining Instructions are specific to your course at ATR (G). They must be read alongside the Course Instructions issued by Headquarters Initial Training Group. The Course Instructions are standardised across all Training Establishments which deliver Phase 1 Training to the Army Reserve. In that way you can be sure that you will be following the same training as all your peers across the Army Reserve. The Course Instructions outline what you should expect from the course, how to prepare for it and what clothing and equipment that you should be issued by your unit to bring with you. REPORTING 3. You are to report to ATR (G) reception point which is located in Building 54 (with the large red Reception sign in front of it) between 1400hrs & 2200hrs on the Friday evening of the course. Your unit is responsible for transporting you to/from ATR (G). 4. Should you be late for any reason, please contact: a. A Squadron, SSM 0115 957 3131 or Tp Sgts on 3154 or 3306 b. Duty Instructor 07901 706473 5. On arrival at PWOG Bks you will be met by your instructional staff who are responsible for leading you through Phase 1 Bravo. This course will follow a 16-day consolidated programme of military and physical training. Day 1 involves confirming your documentation and completing your entrance tests which is a 4-mile squadded march in 60 minutes carrying 15-25 Kgs dependant on your cap-badge. This enables us to establish your level of fitness when you commence training, and then monitor your progress throughout the course. You will also carry out a Weapon Handling Test. If you fail to achieve a satisfactory standard on your entrance tests you will be Returned to your Unit (RTU). FEEDING 6. You will eat together as a course in the Cookhouse. You will be issued a free feeder card on arrival which you present at the till when you have collected your food from the hotplate. Please note that there is a set menu each day. Should you wish to add to your meal then you will have to pay. 7. On exercise you will be issued Operational Ration Packs (ORP). If you have any special dietary requirements such as Vegetarian, Gluten-free, Kosher or Halal you should inform your parent unit who can request this when forwarding your documentation to the Courses Clerk.

ACCOMMODATION 8. You will be accommodated in the permanent accommodation facilities in bunk rooms with a personal locker. You are responsible for the security of your clothing and equipment throughout the period that you are at Grantham and will require a padlock for your locker. CASH 9. There will be precious little time to spend money during your course. You should need no more than 25 for things like boot polish and extra snacks and drinks. There is a free-to-use ATM at the cookhouse. CONNECTIVITY 10. PWOG Barracks has service from all mobile phone providers and limited 3G reception. The camp does benefit from a PAYG WiFi service called Wifinity. To set up an account select Wifinity within your device s WiFi settings. You should note, however, that all devices are to be switched off during hours of training which extend into each evening. 11. It is recommended that you register online with the Defence Gateway 1. This portal will allow you access to numerous army and military related applications such as your pay, various e-learning sites, e-mail, the British Defence Film Library and ModBox, an MOD version of DropBox. When you arrive at Grantham you will see posters on the walls displaying essential pieces of information for your successful completion of the course. If your mobile device has a QR reader then each poster displays a QR code which will take you to the relevant lessons. You must register with the Defence Gateway to access this. ENQUIRIES 12. You should not phone the ATR direct, but should go through your parent Unit to resolve any problems or issues you may have prior to the course. If the Unit then need to contact the ATR, the key telephone numbers are listed below. a. A Sqn SSM - (0115) 957 3131 b. Guardroom - (0115) 957 3237/3238 TRAVEL TO ATR(G) 13. Car. PWOG Barracks is situated outside Grantham in Lincolnshire close to the A1. There is a map at the bottom of this document. Your unit should be driving you to your course. This is a physically demanding course and you will be tired at the end of it. You are not to self-drive to Grantham. Please input NG31 7TF into your Sat Nav and follow the red-bordered signs. 14. Train. If travelling by train you should alight at Grantham railway station. No duty driver service is available therefore you should catch a taxi from outside the station and claim the fare back on JPA. 15. Air. If the first part of your journey is by air then a request can be submitted for both CEFO (webbing) and CEMO (bergan) to be issued at ATR (G) thereby reducing the cost of excess baggage. Your unit can request this when forwarding your documentation to the Courses Clerk. 1 www.defencegateway.mod.uk

PASS OFF PARADE 16. People mark the end of the first stage of training with what the Army calls a Passing off Parade. This parade is held on the last Sunday of each course, which is the last day for the recruits before they return home. The course is inspected by a Reviewing Officer and the recruits pass off with a military band. 17. Families and friends are invited to attend the parade which is an important part of the course. However, due to the number of soldiers on each course the number of guests is limited to two per recruit. 18. Families are asked to arrive at PWOG Barracks from 09.45 to receive a brief at 1030hrs. You will be directed on arrival from the Guardroom. The Pass Off Parade starts at 1130hrs on the Parade square and finishes at 1230hrs. 19. The day finishes with a light buffet reception in the Colours Bar where you will be reunited with your proud families before course dispersal at approximately 1400hrs.
