This year s theme is My PA Watershed where students will be asked to share how they and/or wildlife and fish in their area engage with their watershed highlighting a local creek or even the mighty Susquehanna! PFSC President, Denny Fillmore says, The Federation offers this contest each year to encourage creative expression and an appreciation and understanding of the outdoor world. Entries will compete against others in the same age group. Youngsters who submit can attend public or private schools or be homeschooled. Artwork should highlight early successional habitats and posters should contain the theme name My PA Watershed. Judging of posters and photos is at two levels of the PFSC, county and state. The deadline for most county submissions is January 1, 2018. Posters and/or photos may also be submitted directly to the state level by March 1, 2018 if your county does not participate. Submission is not required at the county level to enter the state level. Contact the PFSC office at (717) 232-3480 or pfscorg@comcast.net to find your county delegate's name and contact info. PFSC / PWF 2018 ART POSTER AND PHOTO CONTEST THEME DETAILS Each year the Pennsylvania Federation of Sportsmen and the Pennsylvania Wildlife Federation, hold a poster and photo contest to encourage creative expression and an appreciation and understanding of the outdoor world. The contests are open to school aged children in grades 4-12 who live in Pennsylvania. Entries will compete against others in the same age group. Youngsters can be attending public or private schools or be home schooled. If there are any questions about the contest or for information on rules and/or how to enter please contact the PFSC office at (717) 232-3480 or pfscorg@comcast.net. 2018 THEME: My PA Watershed Through this contest, we hope to encourage you to learn more about Pennsylvania s wildlife, fisheries and natural resources. For this year s theme, we want you to celebrate your Pennsylvania Watershed by highlighting what watershed you live in and the species and the habitat that your watershed supports! Pennsylvania has 6 major watersheds: the Ohio, the Genesee, the Susquehanna, the Delaware, the Erie, and the Potomac which one do you live in? Pennsylvania contains almost 83,000 miles of streams, ranging from small trickles to large rivers. All of these streams are important because they provide water for people, farms, and industries. They are home to many kinds of wildlife and fish. Streams also give us great places to go fishing, swimming, and boating. Streams receive water from the land that surrounds them. The land area through which any water moves, or drains, to reach a stream is called a watershed. 1 In your artwork or photo, we want to share how you and/or wildlife in your area engage with your watershed you can highlight a local creek or even the mighty Susquehanna! Get outside and look around, and then look closer. What did you miss the first time? What bigger river does that little creek feed into? What species of wildlife and fish does your local watershed support? GET EXCITED: Learn more about ecosystems and habitats that support wildlife, fisheries and the outdoors where you live! GET OUTSIDE: You won t know how amazing nature is until you LOOK! GET INVOLVED: You can do something to make your neighborhood a better place for our natural resources. By looking closer, you will see how you can lend a hand by creating or improving habitat in your own back yard. 1.
