PROMOTING SCIENTIFIC ADVANCEMENT ÉCOLE POLYTECHNIQUE S RESEARCH STRATEGY COMBINES THE PURSUIT OF PROGRESS IN THE MOST FUNDAMENTAL ASPECTS OF SCIENCE AND THE DEVELOPMENT OF KNOWLEDGE IN FIELDS OF MAJOR SCIENTIFIC, TECHNOLOGICAL AND SOCIETAL INTEREST. Innovating: a cuttingedge Research Center The school s ambitious research strategy is implemented by the École Polytechnique Research Center; its 20 laboratories are joint research units with the CNRS (National Center for Scientific Research) or other research institutions, such as the CEA, INRIA, INSERM, Université Paris- Sud, ENSTA ParisTech and UPMC. The mission of the Research Center is to explore the frontiers of knowledge to provide major interdisciplinary contributions to science, technology and society. It holds 500 patents (including extensions) and registers an average of 18 new patents per year. research into its academic programs, most notably through the creation of Academic and Research Chairs. The 15 active chairs enable scientists to explore new areas of cuttingedge research while expanding the educational opportunities for young graduates via the creation of Master s programs and additional specializations. In commercializing their patents, software, and techniques, École Polytechnique plays an important role in stimulating the economy, while generating new resources and funding for the Research Center laboratories. Supporting academics and research École Polytechnique actively promotes the skills and expertise of its laboratories towards industrial firms. STRONG CORPORATE RELATIONSHIPS ÉCOLE POLYTECHNIQUE COLLABORATES WITH BUSINESSES IN VARIOUS SECTORS AND INDUSTRIES, INCLUDING INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATIONS TECHNOLOGY, AERONAUTICS, ELECTRONICS, CHEMISTRY, PHARMACEUTICAL, ENERGY, AUTOMOTIVE, OPTICS, SERVICES AND FINANCE. Hands-on professional experience Ingénieur Polytechnicien students complete 3 professional internships during their enrollment: one business internship, one research internship, and one final project internship. Students are required to spend a minimum of 18 months in internships. Many doctoral students complete their thesis under a CIFRE contract with industrial funding. Promoting startup creation École Polytechnique fosters innovation and entrepreneurship through three Master s programs: Project Innovation Design, Network Industries and Digital Economy, and Engineering and Innovation Technologies, and through support structures such as its business incubator, various associations and start-up grants, thus maximizing exchanges and networking opportunities among its students, alumni and research teams. ÉCOLE POLYTECHNIQUE FOUNDATION A non-profit organization founded in 1987, the École Polytechnique Foundation was created by a group of 20 companies to facilitate the school s development in a rapidly changing global economy. Its primary missions are to increase the school s international attractiveness through its academic programs and recruitment of students, faculty and researchers, to bridge the gap between its Research Center and the commercial market, and to help the school adapt its curriculum to THE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION The École Polytechnique Alumni Association, known as AX, is dedicated to creating and reinforcing the bonds of solidarity among over 25,000 alumni. AX organizes meetings, seminars, conferences, and events which are open to a wide audience. the ever-changing needs of the business world. The Foundation fulfills its missions through the following activities: overseeing the school s fundraising campaigns, along with its two sister organizations: the École Polytechnique Charitable Trust (UK) and Friends of École Polytechnique (USA) supporting startup creation with awards such as the Pierre Faurre Prize and the Jean-Louis Gerondeau/Zodiac Aerospace Prize offering scholarships to international students and students in outreach programs sending volunteers to review students oral internship reports (1,200/year) It awards merit scholarships and prizes in order to reward and encourage significant research results and scientific progress. It supports equal opportunity programs and helps welcome international students on campus through its mentoring program. It also provides financial support for various Polytechnician organizations, student associations and activities. Expanding international visibility for academic excellence As a key participant in the Université Paris-Saclay project along with several major academic partners, École Polytechnique is at the forefront of international higher education and research.
