MU BOULÉ SCHOLARS PROGRAM FOR MATH AND SCIENCE Attn: Archon Bakari G. Lee, Esq. Committee Chair c/o McManimon, Scotland & Baumann, LLC 75 Livingston Avenue, 2 nd Floor Roseland, NJ 07068

MU BOULÉ SCHOLARS PROGRAM 2018 The Mu Boulé Scholars Program 2018 aims to raise the level of educational expectations and performance of African-American male students by celebrating and rewarding their academic excellence from elementary school to college, and graduate and professional schools. This scholarship will focus on African-American male students with a demonstrated capacity for and commitment to Math and Science. Mu Boulé Foundation will award scholarships to African-American male New Jersey high school seniors on a competitive basis. The scholarship/book award will be for a maximum of $2,500.00 per year for four years. Among other requirements, receipt of the Mu Boulé 2018 Scholarship is contingent upon the recipient s successful admission into a fully accredited four year college or university as a full-time student. Such admission may take place subsequent to the December 1, 2017 submission deadline but is a condition precedent to the receipt of any scholarship award monies. The award will be sent directly to the student from the Mu Boulé Foundation once a copy of proper documentation (schedule and current bill) is received. The following rules will govern the Mu Boulé Scholars Program 2018 sponsored by Mu Boulé and the Mu Boulé Foundation: 1. The competition is open to any African-American male New Jersey high school graduate/incoming college freshman who is a resident of northern or central New Jersey, or attends a northern or central New Jersey high school and has ties to northern or central New Jersey. 2. The applicant s entry shall be the below application, and an essay describing and demonstrating the applicant s capacity for, interest in and commitment to, math and science. The essay should demonstrate involvement in math and sciences, including a description of the applicant s graduating grade point average, and evidence of school leadership and community leadership. Other evidence of the applicant s excellence in math and science, such as competitions or related club activity, among other things, should be described as well 3. The student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.6. 4. Essays should not be more than 500 words in length or 3 pages and should be typed doublespaced on letter sized (8 ½ by 11 inches) paper. The author s name, school, home address, telephone number and/or email address should be placed only on a separate cover sheet with the name of the essay. 5. All submissions become the property of the Mu Boulé. By submitting an entry, the student agrees that the entry has not been previously published. 6. All entries must be received by 5:00 PM on December 1, 2017. 7. The entries will be reviewed by the Mu Boulé Social Action Committee with a recommendation of award made by the committee to the Executive Committee of Mu Boulé on or about December 7, 2017. Upon acceptance of an award recipient by the Mu Boulé Executive Committee, the scholarship/book award will be funded by Mu Boulé Foundation. If necessary,

alternate funding will be made available. Contestants will be notified of the results of the competition as soon as practicable. 8. Mu Boulé reserves the right to interview applicants in order to determine a successful applicant for the 2018 Mu Boulé Scholars award. 9. The scholarship recipient will also be eligible, at Mu Boulé s discretion, for continued scholarship/book awards of $2,500 per year up to a total amount of $10,000 over four years from Mu Boulé and Mu Boulé Foundation, provided that prior to the start of each of the next succeeding three years, the awardee submit evidence that he (i) remains enrolled in an accredited four-year college or university, (ii) continues as a math or science major, (iii) maintains a high standard of academic achievement, and (iv) submits a one-page essay evidencing current and ongoing school leadership and community leadership (i.e., student government, involvement and leadership in extra-curricular clubs or fraternities, religious, civic or social organizations, etc.). 10. It is the intention of Mu Boulé and Mu Boulé Foundation that the successful scholarship recipient be eligible and compete for matching funds from the Grand Boulé. In order to be eligible for such matching funds, the Mu Boulé scholarship recipient must serve as a mentor in the Mu Boulé Role Models for Manhood mentorship program (RMM). Receipt of the Mu Boulé 2018 Scholarship is contingent upon full participation by the scholarship recipient in the RMM program. The RMM program occurs during late January through February of each year for a period of roughly six (6) weeks. Mentorship seminars typically occur on Saturday mornings from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Mu Boulé anticipates that the 2018 RMM program will commence on or about January 20, 2018 and continue through February 24, 2018, with a graduation ceremony to occur by Sunday, March 11, 2018.
