Every Big 12 squad had double-digit victory totals in 2016-17. During conference play, 63 of 90 (70 percent) games were decided by 10 points or less - including 45 of the last 63 matchups. The average margin of victory in all conference games this season was 7.9 points. The Big 12 was the only conference with every team among the top 70 of the ESPN BPI, with eight in the top 44. Seven league squads ranked among the top 53 of the final RPI. Big 12 men s basketball had the best cumulative strength of schedule of any conference in the nation for 2016-17. Every team in the Big 12 was ranked or received votes in the top 25 polls this season. The Big 12 had a.588 win percentage versus the ACC, Big East, Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC - the best record among those leagues nationally. It is the eighth straight year the Big 12 has been.500 or better against the group. For the fourth time in four years, the Big 12/SEC Challenge trophy will remain with the Big 12 as the leagues split the 10 contests this season. Big 12 teams are 25-15 (.625) in the event since it began. Big 12 men s basketball teams have a 116-32 non-conference record during 2016-17. Twenty losses were by single digits, including four in overtime. The 116 non-league wins are the most for the Big 12 since the conference began competing as 10 teams in 2011-12. The 32 combined non-league losses by the Big 12 are the fewest of any conference in America. The Big 12 was ranked second nationally among all conferences in the RPI on Selection Sunday. Entering 2016-17, it had been No. 1 in four of the last seven seasons, including three in a row. Five head coaches in the Big 12 have led teams to the Final Four, while nine of 10 coaches have guided a team to the NCAA Tournament and have at least 100 career victories during their respective careers. P o s t s e a s o n Notebook TCU Is NIT Champions! For the second time in league history (Baylor, 2009), a Big 12 team is NIT Champions. The Horned Frogs won five games on the way to the crown, with a scoring margin of +14.8 points. The margin of victory in the final three games increased to 21.7 points. It marked the sixth time in Big 12 history a conference squad had advanced to the NIT semifinals in New York. Second Straight Year Is Triple Sweet For the second consecutive season and the seventh time overall in its history, the Big 12 had three teams advance to the Sweet 16. Baylor, Kansas and West Virginia all competed in the regional semifinals. The Big 12 has had at least one Sweet 16 team in all but one year in conference history, with multiple teams 14 times. Regional Representation Is A Shared Thing In the past two years, the Big 12 is among the national leaders in conference teams advancing to the regional semifinals. Of the six teams, five different squads (half the conference) has advanced to the Sweet 16 since 2016. It marked the first NIT appearance for TCU since 2005. Strong Results At The Start The Big 12 has done well at the start of the NCAA Championship. The league is 34-22 (.515) in NCAA games in the round of 64 over the past nine seasons (2009-17). Since 2008, Big 12 teams are 39-23 (.629) in the same round and 42-23 (.646) during the previous 11 tournaments. Regional Regulars In the past 14 years, the Big 12 has had 36 teams reach the Sweet 16, a total that ranks among the most of any conference. A minimum of five NCAA bids have been earned 17 times in the 21-year history of the conference. For the fourth consecutive season, the Big 12 has placed seven schools in postseason play. The Big 12 has had at least six postseason teams every season since it began competition as a 10-team league six years ago. Big 12 Has Strong Presence On Overall Seed List In the overall seed list published by the NCAA, the Big 12 had three of the 15 teams - tied for the most of any conference in the nation. Four schools were among the top 20 seeds with all six placed in the top 46. First Four Appearance Is A First For the first time since the First Four format was instituted starting with the 2011 season, the Big 12 was represented in Dayton. Kansas State defeated Wake Forest and advanced to play No. 6 seed Cincinnati in Sacramento. Trio Of Elite Coaches With Big 12 Ties Six coaches have taken three schools to the Elite Eight and three have Big 12 ties. Lon Kruger, Bill Self and Eddie Sutton have accomplished the feat, along with John Calipari, Rick Pitino and Gene Bartow. Big 12 Sends 70 Percent The Big 12 was represented by 14 of its 20 men s and women s basketball teams in 2017 postseason tournaments (NCAA, NIT). For the fourth consecutive year, the Conference also leads the nation in percentage of its teams in the NCAA Men s and Women s Basketball Championships. For the second straight season and 12th time since 2001, the Big 12 Conference office hosted NCAA competition. This year, it was the Midwest Regional in Kansas City on March 23 & 25. It marked the second time the league office has hosted the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight after having done so at AT&T Stadium in North Texas in 2013. The Big 12 has hosted every available round (First/Second Rounds, Regional, Final Four) of the NCAA Championship since 2001 and will host first/second rounds in Dallas in 2018.

The second-place finish by BU equaled the top Big 12 finish in school history (2009-10). Junior forward Johnathan Motley has scored in double figures in 18 straight contests. He had 15 double-doubles this year, the second-most in the Big 12 and his 20 career double-doubles are ninth on the school s all-time list. Baylor has 152 wins overall since 2011-12, the second-most in the Big 12 (Kansas, 177) during that span. Head coach Scott Drew is 216-109 (.665) since 2007-08, the first year he had a full allotment of scholarships. KANSAS (31-5, 16-2) KUAthletics.com / @KUHoops Kansas won the outright Big 12 regular season title, it s 13th straight outright or shared crown. The Jayhawks have won it unshared nine times and have won at least 20 games in 28 consecutive seasons - the longest streak in the nation. KU recorded 31 wins for the second-straight season and 12th time in school history, with eight of those in the Bill Self era. The Jayhawks had 16 league wins for the third time in school history (16-0 in 2002; 16-2 in 2012). Senior guard Frank Mason III led the Big 12 in scoring (20.9 ppg) and 3-point field goal percentage (.471) and also has 5.2 assists per contest. He is the first player in league history to average 20+ points and 5+ assists in a season. OKLAHOMA (11-20, 5-13) SoonerSports.com / @OU_MBBall Overall, 10 of the top 11 scorers for Oklahoma are eligible to return next season, with the Sooners bringing back 86.4 points from 2016-17. OU freshmen played 1,436 minutes this year - the second-highest total in the Big 12. Junior forward Khadeem Lattin led the conference in blocks per game in league play each of the last two seasons - the fourth player in history to do so in back-to-back years. He ranks fourth overall in the OU record book with 174 career rejections. Lon Kruger earned his 600th career victory with the win over Kansas State on February 25. He is the third active Big 12 coach to reach the plateau, the 33rd overall to win 600 games and is 10th nationally among active Division I coaches. TCU (24-15, 6-12) GoFrogs.com / @TCUbasketball TCU won the championship of a postseason tournament for the first time in school history when it captured the NIT crown. The 32-point victory over Georgia Tech in the final matched the largest margin of victory in the title contest in NIT history. The Horned Frogs finished with 24 wins in 2016-17, tied for the second-most in a season in school history. The 12-game victory improvement over the previous campaign is also the second-best in the history of the program. Junior guard Kenrich Williams averaged 15.6 points and 12.0 rebounds with 25 assists in five NIT contests. He posted the second triple-double in school history in the quarterfinals (11 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists) with no turnovers. He led the Red Raiders in scoring (15.4 ppg), 3-point shooting (.432) and assists (94). Junior guard Niem Stevenson has scored in double figures in six of his last nine outings after reaching the mark seven times on the year prior to the current stretch. He was a starter in seven of the final 10 contests of the season. The Red Raiders have won at least 18 games in back-to-back seasons for the first time since recording four straight 20-victory campaigns from 2001-02 to 04-05. Senior guard Monté Morris was named Most Outstanding Player of the Big 12 Championship after averaging 17.7 points with 15 assists. He also had seven steals to become the career steals leader (26) for the event. Iowa State has had 20 victories or more in six consecutive seasons, which is a school record. The Cyclones 100 wins from 2013-14 to 2016-17 is a school record for a four-year span. KANSAS STATE (21-14, 8-10) K-Statesports.com / @KStatesports K-State was 14-1 this season when holding opponents to 65 points or less, including 6-1 versus Big 12 competition. Eight foes were held to 55 points or less this year, while 11 opponents were limited to 40 percent shooting or less. Kansas State had 21 overall wins for the first time since recording 27 in 2012-13 and its eight Big 12 victories were the most since 2014-15. The Cats finished 9-9 away from home this season, their most wins since the 2012-13 campaign. K-State topped the 2,000-point plateau for the 11th consecutive season and the Wildcats had 200 or more 3-pointers for the eight time in school history (first since 2012-13). The team also had 271 steals, fourth on the school single-season list. OKLAHOMA STATE (20-13, 9-9) OKState.com / @OSUMBB Oklahoma State announced the hiring of Mike Boynton as the 20th head coach in Cowboy basketball history on March 24. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a four-year letterwinner at South Carolina from 2001-04. The Cowboys averaged 85.7 points this season, which ranks as the second-highest scoring offense mark in Big 12 history. OSU finished with at least 80 points in each of its last seven contests. Oklahoma State has won at least 20 games in a season for the 35th time in school history and first since 2013-14. The Cowboys secured their 20th victory faster than all but one squad (2012-13) in school history. TEXAS (11-22, 4-14) TexasSports.com / @TexasMBB Forward Jarrett Allen finished the season with 278 rebounds, the fourth-most by a freshman in school history. He posted 12 double-doubles, tied for the third-best effort by a UT freshman and the third highest total in the Big 12 in 2016-17. Freshman guard Andrew Jones led the Longhorns in scoring each of the last two contests. In the final 17 games of the year - seven versus Associated Press top 12 opponents - he averaged 13.1 points and 4.1 rebounds with 76 assists. Texas had 14 of its 33 games this season decided by five points or less, including 10 by three points or fewer. Seven of the Longhorns nine conference home games had margins of four points or less. WEST VIRGINIA (28-9, 12-6) WVUSports.com / @WVUHoops West Virginia made its fourth trip to the Sweet 16 under coach Bob Huggins, and its second since 2015. The Mountaineers 28 victories are their third-most in school history behind the two Final Four teams in 2010 (31) and 1959 (29). The nine defeats for WVU were by an average of 4.4 points - the first time since 1961 that the Mountaineers had no losses by double digits. West Virginia led the nation in turnover margin, turnovers forced and steals. West Virginia has posted the 31st season with 20 wins or more in school history and the third straight. It marks the 28th campaign with 20 or more victories for Bob Huggins in 35 years as a head coach.
