EWC contact: Eric Chang, 808.944.7584 ASDP s NEH Landmarks Workshop for Community College Faculty August 1-7 (EWC) Theme: History and Commemoration: Legacies of the Pacific War Funded by: The National Endowment for the Humanities. The program incorporates lectures and discussion, opportunities for individual research, and visits to Pacific War sites in the Honolulu area. Presentations by scholars on the history and memory of the Pacific War will focus on key places and events that continue to be points of interest and controversy in interpreting the significance of the Pacific War. The workshop is a collaboration between the Center s Asian Studies Development Program, the National Park Service, and the Arizona Memorial Museum Association. The 2010 program focuses on the role of innovative entrepreneurship in contributing to economic growth and job creation. This project represents the EWC s first time showcasing this important segment of the population. This Kuala Lumpur-based ensemble uses Chinese percussion instruments and incorporates martial arts. Honolulu performances will also include the Kenny Endo Taiko Ensemble. New Generation Seminar Sept. 26 Oct. 10 (Honolulu; Okinawa; Tokyo; and Seoul) Theme: Asia Pacific Security and the U.S. Role In this seminar, emerging leaders from the U.S. and Asia Pacific will explore the sensitivities surrounding the physical presence of U.S. troops, discuss the changing regional security needs and relationships, and will have a chance to see and better understand the realities of the tensions along the Korean Demilitarized Zone.
