The 2016 Clover Kids Adventure has begun! Apples was the topic for the November meeting. If your child is part of the Clover Kid program, please remember the following dates. New Hampton/ St. Joseph School Location: St. Joseph School (1st Wednesday Early Out 1:30-3:30 pm) December 7th February 1st March 1st April 5th (Make-up day) Nashua Plainfield Elementary School Location: Husky Wellness Center (2nd Tuesday of the Month 3:30-5:15 pm) December 13th February 14th March 14th April 11th (Make-up day) Sumner Fredericksburg Elementary School Location: Sumner Fredericksburg Cafeteria (2nd Thursday of the Month 3:30-5:15) December 8th February 9th March 9th April 13th (Make-up day if needed) Please provide a copy of your club handbooks and yearly calendar to the Extension Office ASAP. **Members must re-enroll by December 1st** Please have your club checks for Enrollment Dues ($15/4-Her) in to the Extension Office by December 15th. **Club minutes should be emailed or turned in to the Extension Office after every meeting. Officer Training Officer Training will be held Sunday, December 11th from 3-5 pm in the Extension Office. Local business people will be presenting on the responsibilities of the various officer roles. This training is highly recommended to all 4-H members and leaders. Please RSVP to the Extension Office by Friday December 9th. DuPont Pioneer Seed Grants DuPont Pioneer offers grants to 4-H clubs for local community improvement projects. The purpose is to provide seed money that clubs can use as a starting point for their project. If your club is interested in this opportunity, please visit http:www.extension.iastate.edu/4h/ pioneergrants or contact the Extension Office for more information. Application forms are due January 17th! **New Member Night** Join us January 31st from 6:30-8 pm for a new member night open to all 1st-3rd year 4-H members. Beef Weigh-In What: Market Beef Weigh-In When: Saturday, December 17th from 8-10 AM Where: Formerly known as Link s Livestock near Bassett, IA. You will need to verify in 4-H online that the weigh in data was entered correctly by staff. Final Beef verification weights and ID s will be due by January 15th in 4-H Online. Ear tag cost is $3.00 each. You can pick up ear tags at the Extension Office. If you are planning to bring your beef animals to the Iowa State Fair, please contact the Extension Office for instructions. Rabbit Workshop What: Workshop for youth to learn about tattooing, breeding, show prep, and caring for the health of their rabbits. Who: Anyone with interest in rabbits or wanting to learn more. When: Sunday, January 15th, 4:30-6:00 pm Where: Bremer County Extension Office, 720 7th Ave SW, Tripoli, IA. Supply Donations Needed: Give a Smile to a Child! A local 4-Her is asking for supply donations to help make pillow cases for the children at the Mayo Hospital in Rochester. A donation box is located at the Chickasaw Extension Office. Please consider dropping off supplies in the donation box to help make these pillowcases. The size of fabric needed for one pillowcase is: body 27 x 42, cuff 9 x 42, accent 2 x 42. Scissors, needles, and gray thread are also needed. Another Way to Help! What: Give a Smile to a Child and help make the pillowcases! When: January 14th, 2017 Time: 9 am 5 pm Where: Fredericksburg City Hall Opportunities Beyond the County Come and join State 4-H Council member Marissa Foels to explore the many 4-H opportunities in Iowa beyond the county level. Learn more about what the 4-H program has to offer high schoolers at the State and National level. Participants will also have time to start applications for the opportunities they are interested in. Leadership Opportunities Available for Senior Level 4-H Members National 4-H Conference: National 4-H Conference is a week-long trip to our nation's capital happening April 7th- 12th. Youth stay at the National 4-H Center in Chevy Chase, MD with delegates from across the nation. Youth must be in grades 9-11. National 4-H Congress: This event is held over the Thanksgiving holiday each year in Atlanta, GA. The event includes dynamic keynote speakers, community service in the Atlanta area, workshops on leadership, cultural issues, and team-building. To apply for national 4-H congress members must be in grades 10-11. State 4-H Council: This group of high school students works directly with Iowa 4-H Youth Development staff to represent the program across the state. They speak to local 4-H groups, represent 4-H'ers ideas to staff, and work in committees to plan the Iowa 4-H Youth Conference, 4- H'ers for 4-H campaign, and 4-H promotional ideas. To apply for State 4-H council, members must be in grade 10-11. National 4-H Dairy Conference: The National 4-H Dairy Conference is conducted through the leadership of 4-H Youth Development, University of Wisconsin--Extension, World Dairy Expo, in cooperation with the National 4-H Dairy Conference Planning Committee and other friends of 4-H and the dairy industry. This opportunity is open to all youth in grades 9-12. State Project Awards: 4-H'ers who have focused on specific project areas during their 4-H experience can apply for recognition for their efforts through this program. Awarded a $100 tentative award, 4-H'ers who have demonstrated mastery, leadership, communication, and service in their project will be recognized as the top in the state. 4-H'ers may apply under two project areas -- only one project area per year will be awarded. 4-Hers must be in grades 9-12. State 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador Program: The 4-H Shooting Sports Ambassador Program is designed to promote 4-H and specifically 4-H Shooting Sports. Youth selected to serve as Ambassadors will receive training to become advocates for the program at county, regional, and state levels. Through the program, Ambassadors develop their skills in leadership, public presentation, citizenship, community service, public relations and team building. This opportunity is for youth in grades 9-11.
