Greetings! As I m writing this note to you, we are hearing from the weather forecasters that there could be a big storm headed our way. Hopefully by the time you read this, it will have blown out to sea! This storm is a reminder that we need to always be prepared. Make sure you have everything you need in your GO-kit. If you need ideas as to what to include in your kit, give us a call. You never know when the next storm will hit. This is New England after all! Thanks to the Friends of Hampden Seniors for another great fundraiser dinner! It was a great night! The Friends will be hosting a BAKE SALE fundraiser on ELECTION DAY, NOVEMBER 6th, at the Town House. If you are able to bake something for this fundraiser, please let us know. If you aren t a baker, be sure to stop at the table to buy some treats when you re there to vote. Medicare s open enrollment period has begun. If you have questions about health insurance or prescription drug coverage or would like to know if there is a better plan for you, please call to make a SHINE appointment. You can change your plan up until December 7th. This month marks my 10 year anniversary with the Hampden Senior Center! Time sure flies when you re having fun. Brown Bag: Brown Bag is a grocery bag program for anyone 55 and older. Call or stop in the Outreach Office for an application and eligibility guidelines. The Brown Bag Program is held on the third Tuesday of each month. A donation of $3.00 is suggested. Medical Equipment Loan Closet: Hampden Senior Center s Loan Closet is available to any Hampden resident free of charge. We have a variety of medical equipment available. SHINE (Serving Health Insurance Needs of Elders): Call the Senior Center to schedule an appt. Veterans: Hampden s Veteran s Agent John Comerford can be reached @ 267-4140. Van Transportation TWO TOWN TROLLY 525-5412 - The Trolley is running for Hampden residents. Mon-Fri, 9:00am 2:00pm. Doctors appointments take priority. PVTA is also available, call 739-7436 or 1-866-277-7741. PVTA discount tickets available at Center. Volunteer Drivers: Please contact Wendy with questions. Lock Box Program: Call the Senior Center if you would like a Lock Box installed at your house. This box provides keyed entry by the police department in an emergency. Call the Senior Center for enrollment or more information. Hampden s Emergency Fuel Fund: Available to Hampden residents in emergency situations. Donations to H.E.F.F. are accepted at the Hampden Senior Center. Fuel Assistance It s that time of year again for Fuel Assistance Applications and Renewals. The NEW income guidelines for the 2013 heating season are as follows: Family Size Income Limit 1 $31,271.00 2 $40,893.00 3 $50,515.00 4 $60,137.00 The following documentation is also required: - Copy of Social Security check or bank statement showing deposits (not more than 30 days old) - 2012 Electric bill and 2012 Telephone bill - Oil Statement or Gas Bill (or both) - Property Tax or Homeowners bill - If working, 4 previous pay stubs (these have to be the most recent).
