MYSTERYLAND MUSIC FESTIVAL SUSTAINABLE DESIGN CHALLENGE
DEAR CONTESTANT: The producers of Mysteryland US and MATTE FINISH creative agency are excited to announce an incredible opportunity to create an amazing installation, experience one of the world s most established and renowned electronic music festivals, and promote a significant message about sustainability. This challenge invites designers to utilize their talent and expertise in order to create a sustainable, functional installation based on the theme and Mysteryland motto, Today is a Gift. The winning design will be built and placed on the festival grounds in Bethel Woods, New York, the original location of the legendary Woodstock Music & Arts Festival. Contestants have a chance to conceptualize, design, and participate in the building of an installation that represents their unique vision, and the Grand Prize winner will have his or her work seen by nearly 20,000 attendees. About Mysteryland Established 20 years ago, Mysteryland is the longest-running music festival in the world. The festival is hosted annually in both Holland and Chile, and it has become renowned as a multi-sensory, culturally immersive, ecologically friendly and innovative electronic festival. Mysteryland US in Bethel Woods, New York is set to host 20,000 attendants on May 2014 from diverse backgrounds, all united by a love for groundbreaking art and music. PRIZES Grand Prize Sculpture will be produced and prominently displayed at Mysteryland US 2014 In the weeks leading up to Mysteryland US, winners will receive on and offline promotion and official recognition on Mysteryland social channels and public platforms, including link to proposal and design rendering Portfolio will be featured on Mysteryland US website The winning designer(s) will work with the entire Mysteryland production and creative team while co-producing their installation on-site and credited as part of the Mysteryland crew. PROJECT BRIEF Producers of Mysteryland and MATTE creative agency are calling upon the creative young minds of the American design community to take on the challenge of creating the concept and design for a sustainable, functional, installation this coming May at Mysteryland US in Bethel Woods, NY. Entry Guidelines All submissions must be entered in the form of to-scale concept renderings (any medium; digital, hand drawn. etc) and submitted digitally, in PDF format, to MLdesignchallenge@matte-finish.com Mandatory Constraints The installation must be self-sufficient, created from sustainable materials and bring awareness to a current environmental issue. Installation must be able to be produced within a $5,000 - $8,000 total budget (for raw materials, etc.). All entries must come with a materials budget attached. There are no other technical requirements regarding height/width. Design concept must be cohesive with Today is a Gift theme, which is completely open to interpretation. Submissions may come from individuals or teams of no more than four participants. Submission deadline is 11:59pm April 25th, 2014. Submissions will be judged in following categories: 1. Adherence to Mysteryland s ethos of local, sustainable practices 2. Alignment with to Today is a Gift theme 3. Aesthetic 4. Function and sustainability 5. Feasibility (ability to be produced on budget) The best installations will not only evoke emotion but also address the issue through their function! The Judges Submissions will be judged by a carefully curated panel of noteworthy judges from a variety of creative/design backgrounds alongside ID&T s creative directors and the chief creative officer of MATTE. They will also act as mentors for the winning contestants.
POLICIES REGARDING CREATIVE & INTELLECTUAL PROPERTIES Submissions must be entered in the form of to-scale concept renderings (digital or hand drawn). All submissions must be submitted in PDF format. The winning designs will be posted on Mysteryland website and social channels with links back to individual/team portfolios. All submissions will be credited to their creators. If selected as winner, the rendering submissions and final produced design will be displayed on Mysteryland channels pre and post event, correspondingly The winning sculpture will be built by ID&T production crew, with oversight by the winning team of designers, on site at Bethel Woods, NY festival grounds. The sculpture design will be accredited to the designer(s). Artists retain the copyright to their creations and all other intellectual property rights under U.S. law. By submitting, chosen artists agree to have their work displayed at the Mysteryland Festival in Bethel Woods, NY on May 2014. Artists further agree to grant Mysteryland a five-year non-exclusive license to display and reproduce the work on Mysteryland and ID&T social media and web platforms with the condition that the artist will receive proper notice and credit under U.S. law. ** If desired, the sculpture can be returned after display at Mysteryland US. Festival producers may consider purchase from the artist post-event.
