Benefits and Obligations of the STEM Teaching Scholarship Program: Each STEM Teaching Scholar will: 1. Receive up to $7,000 per year 2. Work in a San Bernardino City USD secondary school for at least four hours per week, under the guidance of a selected mentor teacher. 3. Receive subject specific academic and pedagogical advising and mentoring 4. Participate in monthly seminars, in-person and online 5. Work as a teacher in SBCUSD for two years for each year of funding. Eligibility and Selection Criteria: 1. At most 90 units to graduation in one of the following, declared, majors: mathematics, physics, biology, chemistry, or geology. 2. Full time enrollment (12 units) in a program of courses appropriate for the major. 3. Minimum 3.0 overall GPA and 3.0 GPA in major 4. Interest in teaching as a career 5. Potential to do well in a diverse public school setting 6. Must be eligible for employment in SBCUSD after graduation. Application Requirements: 1. Completed Application Form 2. Please write a maximum one-page, 12 point font, essay in which you address the following: a) Your professional goals, b) Why you should be considered for the scholarship. Include a description of the specific knowledge, skills, and dispositional attributes that you bring to the teaching profession. You may also include any anecdotal experiences that have attracted you toward pursuing a career in teaching, c) Your expectations from the STEM Teaching Scholarship program d) Any additional information you wish the STEM Teaching Scholarship Admissions Committee to know about you. 3. To maintain and renew a STEM Teaching Scholarship, you must: 1. Maintain at least a 3.0 GPA both in major and overall or in the credential program. 2. Receive a positive recommendation each quarter from the mentoring team, regarding a) School site performance b) Participation in seminars c) Performance in coursework. Signature and Agreement 1. Letter of Recommendation The person whose name appears below is an applicant for the STEM Teaching Scholarship program, which is sponsored by CSUSB, SBCUSD, Edison International Foundation, and the Math and Science Teacher Initiative (MSTI). The STEM Teaching Scholarship program would like your help in determining: (1) if he/she has the potential to develop into a good teacher and (2) what we can do to help him/her acquire the specific skills necessary to become a good teacher. Persistence - The applicant, after having identified specific tasks, continues to pursue those tasks until they are accomplished. 12. Leadership - The applicant helps others to accomplish specifically identified tasks through direction and example.

13. Self-Confidence - The applicant demonstrates faith in his/her convictions in the face of adversity. 14. Willingness to Accept Feedback - The applicant considers the suggestions of others, and incorporates them into the way s/he functions as appropriate. 15.
