UPMC Passavant Nursing Certification Scholarship Program Program Description: Our nursing vision at UPMC Passavant is to provide the best patient/family experience through exemplary nursing care based on evidence-based practice, innovation, and empowered nurse leaders, with a focus on quality and safety that support the vision and mission of UPMC Passavant. Ensuring that we are at the forefront of nursing knowledge and practice occurs through participation in professional organizations and by seeking board certification in one of many nursing specialty areas. Through the generous support of our UPMC Medical Staff and the Passavant Hospital Foundation, funding has been specifically set apart for nurses who seek to achieve nursing certification, who are limited by the barrier of costs associated with the application and exam fee. Applications are now being accepted to support our nurses to develop professionally, increase knowledge, and positively impact patient care by awarding the Nursing Certification Scholarship in an amount not to exceed $500 for nurses selected in this program. Scholarship Eligibility Requirements: Applicant must be active in full time, flexible full time, part time or casual. Most recent performance appraisal must demonstrate solid/strong performance and free of any current corrective action on file. Applicant must demonstrate a high degree of likelihood of successfully completing the Only UPMC approved nursing specialty certification may be requested. Application Procedures: 1. Obtain a copy of the application packet from the Education SharePoint Site (clarify name). 2. Request one letter of reference from a supervisor or colleague (Unit Director, Clinician, Educator, Professional Staff Nurse III). 3. Compose a personal essay describing your professional goals and how certification in a nursing specialty area will impact patient care and / or professional nursing practice, consistent with the UPMC Passavant Mission, Vision, and Values. 4. Request Unit Director Endorsement by completing and returning appropriate form.

Submit completed application packet no later than the 15 th of the month to: Peggy Hayden, MSN, RN Director, Nursing Education, Practice and Research haydenma@ph.upmc.edu 412-367-6536 Scholarship Award Procedures: Awards will be reviewed at the Education and Professional Growth Council and recommendations to the Chief Nursing Officer for approvals will be made within 30 days of receipt. Twelve award cycles will occur annually with a limited number of scholarships available to nurses. Late applications or incomplete packets will be deferred until the following month. Application and exam fees will be paid up to $500 per applicant, and fees which exceed that amount will be the responsibility of the awardee. Fees which fall below that amount will be paid at the actual dollar amount, not to exceed $500 dollars. Notification of award will occur in writing via US Mail to the home address. A disbursement check, payable to the credentialing organization, will arrive to the home address within 2 weeks of notification. The awardee will send the disbursement check and certification application to the credentialing agency, and notify the education office of the date of the The awardee will notify the education office immediately upon receipt of results, and provide a copy for the record.
