AUG 2016 BOE meeting Page 8 5 CONGRATULATIONS, CELEBRATIONS, INFORMATION August 12 -Teachers Back to School August 12 -Registrations for all students K-12 August 12 - Student pictures for all students K-12 August 17 -Elementary Open House and Secondary Back to School Night August 18 -First Day of School for 1st -12th grade August 25 - Kindergarten first day September 5 -No School -Labor Day September 6 - First Day for Preschool Wiggins High School Awarded bronze ranking in News Week for schools, as a school who is preparing students for college and career at a high level. This is the fourth year the school has been awarded either a bronze or a silver ranking. Wiggins High School one of 6 districts in Colorado Awarded CDE & REL (Regional Education Laboratories) Closing the Achievement Gap Award for ACT testing. Wiggins is one of only 6 districts in the state who showed growth on the ACT over a 5 year span for both Middle Class, Minority and Free and Reduced Lunch students. High School Principal Trent Kerr presented to principals and superintendents at the CASE conference on how Wiggins School District has beat the odds over the past 5 years.

AUG 2016 BOE meeting Page 10 7B SUPERINTENDENT'S REPORT AGENDA ITEM #: 7B AGENDA ITEM: Superintendent's Report SUBMITTED BY: Gary Bruntz TYPE OF ACTION:Report X Discussion Action SUMMARY OF ISSUE: Everything is on schedule for the beginning of the new school year. Directors, Principals and their administrative assistants have been preparing to get started. Teachers are reporting tomorrow for a clerical day, registration and pictures in both the Elementary and Secondary. New teachers reported today for a new teacher induction. The directors have also been working hard this summer preparing for the new school year. John Kopetzky and his staff have the buildings and grounds looking good. The maintenance crews have their respective buildings ready for the students. Bill Crites has been preparing the bus fleet for the year and has them ready as well although he is still looking for drivers. He is also in the process of pricing a new bus. Mark Pelton has been busy upgrading technology and is also prepared for the new school year. All of the directors will be giving reports in upcoming meetings. There will be an Open House for both the Elementary and Secondary on Wednesday, August 17 th. The secondary will start at 5:30 in the Event Center. The elementary will begin at 6:30 in the Elementary School. Classes for all 1st thru 12th students will begin on August 18 th. Kindergarten will start August 25 th. New teachers will be introduced to the board at the next meeting. Business Director Cary Allen and I have also been working all summer, closing out the 15/16 school year and preparing for 16/17. All is going well. We are ready.
AUG 2016 BOE meeting Page 11 7C PRESCHOOL REPORT AGENDA ITEM #: 7C AGENDA ITEM: Preschool Report SUBMITTED BY: Lisa Trautwein TYPE OF ACTION:Report X Discussion Action SUMMARY OF ISSUE: Wiggins Preschool has received a rating of 4 out of 5 stars through the Colorado Shines system. Staff will be reviewing the results of the rating and making changes as warranted. The summer program began June 6 th and ended on August 5 th. Fifteen (15) children were enrolled in the program. The program is in operation from 8 a.m. thru 3:00 p.m. Monday Friday. Breakfast, lunch and two snacks are provided. We received notice that Wiggins School District has been allocated 27 CPP slots ten (10) of which may be used for all day services. Preschool Staff will return August 22 for professional development. Home visits will begin August 29 th. Preschool staff will attend the first days of Kindergarten to support this transition for teachers, students and parents. Preschool will begin again on Tuesday, September 6 th. At this time, all classes are filled with five (5) children on the waiting list. The number on the wait list is expected to increase before the beginning of September.
