Communities including homes, schools, and public spaces can be transformed to support well being and make healthy choices easy and affordable. This BSK funding opportunity will bring together communities to collectively create lasting change that promotes healthy and safe environments across King County.

Small non-profits and community-based organizations, minority-led organizations, and women-led organizations are encouraged to apply.

Budget Request Form (Attachment 3) Instructions for completing the Budget Request Form Please review the instructions tab in the excel workbook carefully to create an accurate budget. Main Points: Replace information in italics with information related to your budget request Do not need to use every line or budget category in the Form you can delete lines or leave them blank. Equipment items (items that cost over $5000 for a single unit) are generally not covered in this RFP, please submit any questions on equipment to Jeffrey.Brown@kingcounty.gov Cells with #VALUE have formulas as well as the example cells in the same column. Be sure not to erase these formulas as you are inputting data. Add extra rows to each section if needed, just make sure the cell totaling that section includes the new rows. RFP Investment Areas Overview
Healthy Food/Food Access What we mean by this Increase access to healthy, affordable foods/reduce exposure to unhealthy foods by changing policies, systems or the environment in which people live, work, learn, and play. Schools and school districts out of school time programs emergency food systems Children, youth & young adult focused spaces Communities and neighborhoods Strong applicants will work to engage youth and young adults in this work. (Eg youth-led efforts to improve food access or youth-led campaigns to counter advertisement of unhealthy foods)
Physical Activity What we mean by this. Increase access to safe physical activity through the creation or improvement of systems, policies or environments that promote or provide physical activity through: Program improvements (trauma informed fitness) Access to safe spaces (eg. joint use agreements) Active transportation Safe recreation Strong applicants will work to engage youth and young adults in this work.
Unhealthy Substances & Dangerous Products What we mean by this By changing policies, systems or the environment within which people live, learn, work and play reduce exposure to unhealthy substances such as Substances such as tobacco, vapor products, marijuana and other drugs dangerous products such as firearms/guns Strong applicants will work to engage youth and young adults in this work. (Eg. youth-led counter advertising campaigns and efforts to assess the environment to determine youth access of unsafe products.)
Safe and Health Promoting Environments What we mean by this. Increasing policies, systems and environment changes (i.e., in streets, parks, schools, homes, etc.) to give community members the best chance to be safe and healthy. Improvement of community safety and reduction of crime, especially as it relates to safe public places for physical activity Develop/create home and community environments that support health and are free of building/housing-related hazards and toxics. Strong applicants will work to engage youth and young adults in this work.
