Just a little update Mr. Bobby Sullivan has successfully transitioned to the Virginia Region as a full-time Criminal Justice Professor/Regional Academic Director and I/we thank him for his continued service and leadership. So far my regional visits are going well, thank you for your warm receptions and speaking with me about what we are doing right and what we can improve upon. Remember we are building the vision of Community and One University across the Saint Leo University footprint and I look forward to our continued work TOGETHER! Previously we have used Newsletters and Lunch-N-Learns to engage Adjuncts. I would like to add the use of Social Media (LinkedIn) and various other training initiatives to have a more continuous and fruitful engagement. Below is our very own LinkedIn link for Adjunct Faculty Relations. I encourage everyone to request membership as it is a closed internal group so that we may share discussions without any student interaction. https://www.linkedin.com/groups/saint-leo-university-adjunct-faculty-6740162/about Thank you once again and I look forward to serving you in any way that I can. Success Alert (SALERT) is a Datatel delivered retention alert system used to track and record classroom management issues. The data entered into SALERT can be used to track student retention, to determine correlations between retention and case types, and to identify patterns of behavior. SALERT helps retain students by maintaining a historical record on students. This record benefits students and instructors. A historical record can be used to provide evidence of instructors personal contact, emails, and other communications to students regarding concerns. It can also be used to identify student behaviors that could benefit from intervention. To request training or for questions, contact Amanda Wright, retention specialist, at 352-588-8602 or Amanda.wright@saintleo.edu. The Office of Disability Services sends letters of accommodations to you in the beginning of each term. Along with this, for those on the main campus, we ask for the exams to be sent to our office either in person or through email so the students are able to take their exams with the allotted extended time. Having the student pick up the exams in front of the class only makes public the disability and cuts the time off from their exams. Please read your emails for the notifications of the tests and send the exams to the ds-proctoring@saintleo.edu email address. This is VERY important! Thank you for your support of our students, Chris Georgallis Assistant Director of Disability Services Continuing Education Resources To access Continuing Education manuals and resources, go to the SLU Intranet, select Continuing Education at the top, and then select Continuing Education Resources in the left column navigator. A number of documents are posted in folders. For example, in the Academic Advising Tools folder, you will find the Academic Advising Handbook as well as a New Student Checklist to use when advising students. You will also want to review the other documents posted in this folder. The Continuing Education Operations Manual is also available in another folder. If you have any questions about any of the resources or need additional resources, please email Beth Carter. The seventh annual conference brought together hundreds of educators and dozens of presenters to share knowledge and practices, and facilitate lively, interactive sessions.
The title of his closing was: Go Farther - Erase the Lines "Don t just go outside the lines that define how you teach - Erase them. Let s talk about taking down the fences and letting student imagination run free. Let s not be afraid to erase the lines that constrain our teaching and confine our learners." He was also selected to present a concurrent session called: How to Gamify Your Classes. "A growing body of research indicates that games work in reinforcing learning if they trigger real emotions and are compelling and immersive. Gamification is a method we can use to create in students a desire to explore and collaborate. We can add elements of surprise and interest that is difficult to do in traditional formats. And we can do it while achieving our learning objectives." Robert Rivers- On May 4, 2013, he completed his Doctor of Ministry degree in Christian Spirituality from Washington Theological Union, Washington, DC.
