Inadequate bandwidth will result in slow lowing of course content, including but not limited to course examinations and quizzes. Students must secure proper bandwidth access. All students are required to have e-mail access using the ASU student email account. E-mail accounts may be obtained by accessing the ASU home page, current students tab and activating your student digital ID. Students must correspond using their A-State email account. The use of word-processing, e-mail, attachments, and power point are required for successful completion of this course. ASU is a Microsoft campus and Microsoft Office is available for download from Information and Technology Services (ITS), http://its.astate.edu/content/softwaredownloads/. The grades you receive on assignments will be available to you on the electronic grade book within Blackboard. Your grades will be visible only to you and the instructor. Course Grades: Final course grades will be computed utilizing the College of Nursing grading scale found in the Nursing Student Handbook. A = 90 100% B = 80 89.99% C = 75 79.99% D = 60 74.99% F = below 60% For progression all students must achieve at least a C for the course. No rounding will occur with grading on exams, written work, or the final course grade. To determine the current course average at any given point in the course, students should check the weighted average column in the grade book. Academic integrity is expected. Please review the University Policy on Academic Integrity in the ASU Student Handbook. Although unit assignments are completed at home and students may use notes or textbooks, students are expected to complete the assignments individually without assistance from any other person. All course work submitted is to be the student s own work and not previously submitted in another course for a grade. Students are encouraged to use a plagiarism checker for all written work. Students who have questions about the Honor Code or what constitutes academic integrity should do not hesitate to ask their instructor or the program coordinator. Late Penalty: Written assignments are due by 11:59 p.m. on the specified due dates unless a different time is posted. Late work is NOT accepted unless previous arrangements are made and will only be considered for extreme situations, such as significant illness, death of a family member, etc. Circumstances will be evaluated on an individual as-needed basis if the request is made prior to the assignment due date. Slow internet service is not an acceptable reason to submit work late unless the ASU server is malfunctioning; in which case the due date assignment will be extended for the entire 3
class as appropriate. Any work that has been approved for a late submission will be subject to a late penalty. Written assignments (i.e. exams, assignments, papers) submitted after the deadline will have ten (10) points deducted per day, or fraction thereof, including the day the paper is submitted. Note: The late penalty for discussion board activity is outlined in the discussion board grading rubric. Spelling, Grammar, and APA format: All written work is expected to be at Bachelor level proficiency and have correct formatting, grammar, and spelling. The grading rubric will outline how many points are assignment for each area of the paper including spelling, grammar, and APA format. For papers without specific spelling, grammar, and APA format criteria, up to twenty (20) points may be deducted from written assignments for spelling, grammar, or APA formatting errors. Students are highly encouraged to create all written work in a word documents and utilize spell-check and grammar-check features prior to submitting any written work for this course. Examinations will be taken by the due dates. If problems are encountered during any exam, send the faculty an email IMMEDIATELY explaining the problem. This email does not indicate the exam will be reset for the student if the identified problem is deemed to be caused by the student s internet connection, i.e. slow loading of examination/quiz items. Emails will be monitored on exam days prior to 5:00 p.m. If an email is not received regarding the problem encountered the grade achieved will stand. If extraordinary circumstances exist preventing you from taking an exam you must contact the faculty prior to the exam to make alternate arrangements for taking the exam. Late penalties will apply. Note that late exams may have a different format. For these and other reasons, students are urged to not wait until the last minute to complete assignments. Respondus Lockdown Browser : You must use the Respondus Lockdown Browser for all examinations. Please download the free Respondus software to your computer prior to taking your first exam (this is located under the Tools section on Blackboard). Participation in class discussions via Blackboard is required each week. A grading rubric for the discussions will be used and is posted for you to view prior to writing your first discussion post. The discussion contributions that you submit on Blackboard will identify you as the author and will be available to all students in the class. Students are expected to read and respond professionally to classmates as appropriate. Initial discussion board postings will be due by midnight on Wednesday on the specified week. Skipping or waiving assignments: Skipping or waiving assignments in any ASU- Jonesboro online RN-BSN course is never an option.
