11/1/17 Academics Spend 5 weeks in Prague with other Cal Poly students. Take 3 Cal Poly courses and earn 8 Cal Poly units. All courses are taught in English by the Cal Poly Faculty Leader. Faculty Leader Barry Jones has over 30 years experience in construction project management and management consultancy. Over 17 of those years have been spent working in various companies that manage heavy civil engineering, commercial or computer software projects in the USA, UK, Europe, and SE Asia. His technical knowledge spans across the project supply chain from project conception and design through to facility management. He has conducted international teaching programs in the UK, Austria, Australia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Indonesia. He most recently led the CM in Prague program in summer 2016. Location The historic center of Prague is on the UNESO list of World Heritage Sites. You will attend classes at the CEA Prague Center and also explore the city through walking tours, visits to places of historic and cultural interest, and field visits to local contractors offices and construction sites. Cal Poly Partner Cal Poly partners with 'Cultural Experiences Abroad' to make this program a success. CEA will be a big part of your experience prior to departure and while in Prague. 11/1/17 Itinerary Spring 2018: Class meetings for CM- 415 and CM- 443 begin on campus at Cal Poly mid- way through the quarter (tentative: Thursday evenings) Weds, June 20: Program Starts Airport pickup Apartment move- in Arrival Orientation, City Walking Tour, and Welcome Dinner Cal Poly classes are held Mon- Fri at the CEA Prague Center Weekly activities include: museum visit, conversational Czech language class, construction site visit, contractor s offices, theater/opera, Czech cooking class, and Farewell Dinner. Weds, July 25: Program Ends Apartment move- out Program Duration is 5 weeks. OK to travel independently on the weekends and before/after the program. View the full itinerary at abroad.calpoly.edu. Housing, Meals, Transportation Students will be housed in residential apartments with other program participants. Apartments have wi- fi. Bring your laptop and phone. Shared apartments will house 2-6 students. Each bedroom will house 2-3 students. Apartments can be co- ed (but bedrooms are not). You can indicate your roommate preferences. Apartments include fully- equipped kitchens. Meals are not included in the program (except for Welcome Dinner, Czech Cooking Class, and Farewell Dinner). Students can cook for themselves and/or eat out. Travel time from student housing to the CEA Prague Center is ~20 minutes using public transportation. Students should expect to commute every day. A public transportation pass is included, and will enable you to travel throughout Prague (metro, tram, bus). 4
Cost Information Program Fee is $5,850 (tentative and subject to change) Program Fee Includes: $400 International CenterFee Tuition & Registration (8 Cal Poly units, through Extended Education) Housing (shared apartments in Prague) Cultural activities and field trips Faculty and Staff support LocalTransportation Pass Travel Health Insurance In addition to the Program Fee, you are responsible for: Round- trip airfare (estimated$2,000) Meals (estimated $900) Books & Supplies (estimated $200) Personal Expenses (estimated $600) Total Estimated Cost: $9,550 How To Apply Total group size for this program is 21-24 Cal Poly students. Eligibility Requirements: Minimum 2.5 GPA Good Disciplinary Standing Apply Now Attend a Study Abroad 101 Workshop (and/or complete the Advising Module) this quarter. Register at abroad.calpoly.edu. Prague application is open Dec. 1, 2017 Jan 10, 2018. Acceptances will be confirmed 1 week after the deadline. Apply at: abroad.calpoly.edu Online application takes ~30 minutes to complete (OK to save as you go). No recommendation letters or transcripts are required. You will need to write a brief essay about why you are a good candidate for this program. 5
Reminders Valid passports are required to go on this program. However, it is OK if you do not have a passport when you apply. U.S. citizens can visit the Schengen Area of Europe for up to 90 days, visa free. There are currently26 Schengen countries. Students accepted to the program will join the CEA Prague online portal to receive information and complete pre- departure tasks (roommate preference form, health and wellness form, passport upload, flight information, arrival details, etc.). An on- campus Pre- Departure Orientation will take place in the Spring, during one of your CM class meetings.
