Awards under this program are for the first year of college work at Franciscan University of Steubenville. Applicants must be high school seniors, graduating in 2016, and who reside within the boundaries of the Diocese of Steubenville, be a participating member of a Catholic parish in the Diocese of Steubenville, and meet the following educational criteria: a combined SAT score of 1000 (CR and Math) or a composite ACT score of 21, and demonstrate financial need as determined by the Franciscan University s Office of Student Financial Services (through the FAFSA). Documentation to submit to the Selection Committee consists of: a. the application form b. a letter of recommendation from the applicant s Pastor. The application is due by Wednesday, April 1st, 2016. The committee will determine the number of awards and their amounts. Prayer request for Franciscan University students going to the United Nations: Thank you for being our "prayer warriors" for the Franciscan University who will be attending the U.N. to lobby on pro-family and pro-life issues. They will be at the U.N. during Spring break, March 5-11. Prayer cards for this purpose may be picked up in the St. Peter Church vestibules. Know that our "prayer warriors" will also be in our prayers. CWC Meeting is Tuesday, March 1, 2016 @ 12. Sloppy Joes will be provided. The Aim Women s Center will host its Annual Fundraising banquet, Do Everything in Love on Tuesday, March 15, 2016 at the Serbian-American Cultural Center, Weirton. The doors will open at 6:00 p.m. with a cash bar, music and fellowship. The evening events begin at 7 p.m. and will feature an update on the ministry, a guest speaker, dinner and the opportunity to support the AIM Women s Center. This year s speaker will be Kristan Hawkins. Kristan is originally from Follansbee, WV. She is the President of Students for Life of America. Kristan s mission to help and support young pregnant mothers and their babies began when she volunteered at the AIM Women s Center as a high school student. This project provides musical instruments and lessons to inner city kids. Timothy Huffman ~Samaritan House News~ The Samaritan House* is in need of regular food pantry items: cereal, vegetables, peanut butter, chili, tuna, pork and beans, fruit, macaroni and cheese, crackers, spaghetti, spaghetti sauce, ravioli, and soup. You may leave items in the back (front vestbule) of the church. *The Samaritan House is run by the Franciscan Sisters, TOR of Penance of the Sorrowful Mother. It is a thrift store and emergency food bank serving the local Steubenville community. If you would like to donate items for the thrift store, there is a drop box behind their building which is located at 424 Washington Street in Steubenville (adjacent to the Diocese of Steubenville offices). Items for the food pantry may be left in the front vestibule of St. Peter Church. As well as the above, the sisters also offer a daily (when they are open) Bible study, and offer RCIA classes. In addition, the sisters operate LAMP Ministry which is a bimonthly (the 2nd and 4th Saturday, 11 a.m.) catechetical breakfast which is free and open to the public in the basement of Holy Name Cathedral. ~FORMED~ Formed is an online Catholic faith formation program which can be found at: www.formed.org.
