Washington Family, Career and Community Leaders of America EMPOWER MEPOWER Date: March 2016 To: From: Re: Chapter Advisers/Career & Technical Education Directors Washington FCCLA State Advisers National FCCLA Leadership Conference participation All affiliated members of an affiliated chapter are eligible to attend the National FCCLA Leadership Conference as representatives of their chapter, school, and community. This year the meeting will be held in San Diego, California, July 2-7, 2016 (this includes time for travel and tours). The local adviser is responsible for facilitating and coordinating chapter participant travel, housing, registration, and financing with the school district and students. ALL STUDENTS MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A LOCAL ADVISER. NLC Registration Deadlines Washington FCCLA registers for the National Leadership Conference housing as a delegation. Conference delegate registration and STAR Events registration occur directly through the national leadership conference website. Be sure to read the Registration Policies and Cancellation and Refund Policies on page 20-21 of the NLC Guide on the National Website. May 4 Complete NLC registration through National FCCLA online registration system. Early registration ends May 4, 2016 at 2:00 PDT. Prices increase after this date. If paying by purchase order or check, full payment must be received by June 15, 2016. May 4 STAR Events registration must be completed online by chapter adviser by 2:00 PDT. Registrations made between May 5-18, subject to regular fees + $100 per team. May 18 STAR Events registrations after May 18 th are subject to the regular fees + $200 per team. June 1 Last date to make registration changes with partial refund. Made online only. Last date for STAR Event substitutions. After June 1, $200 late fee per event. Regular Registration substitutions after June 1, $25 late fee. National FCCLA Leadership Conference is always an exciting experience for both students and advisers. Individuals who attend have a clearer vision of the marvelous potential that exists within 1

our students and the difference a student leadership organization can make in their lives, their school and their community. Savvy Meetings and Events Housing Registration Deadlines The housing requests for the National Leadership Conference will be made through Savvy Meetings and Events. Savvy is working with us to organize our housing, Washington State t-shirt order information and to collect travel arrangements. We will not be including a polo with your package this year in order to keep your cost down. Delegates are still expected to bring red, black or white polos in accordance with the 2016 Mandatory Dress Policy. Go to: www.savvymeetingsandevents.com. Hold your cursor on "Contact" to see FCCLA REGISTRATION SITE. Savvy will invoice for housing per registration information provided through EventBrite. The State Travel Package fee includes each person's State t-shirt, travel insurance, trading pins, housing arrangements, etc. EVERYONE MUST PAY THE WA-FCCLA STATE TRAVEL PACKAGE FEE. No Exceptions. May 1: Savvy Housing Registration ends. Online Housing request and t-shirt sizes due. Full payment (for housing and WA-FCCLA State Travel Package Fee) is due upon completion of online registration. June 1: FULL PAYMENT DUE - NO CANCELLATIONS OR REFUNDS AFTER JUNE 1. June 15: Due date for online Travel Plans submitted to Savvy. You may go online as often as you need to enter additions or deletions. 1. Meet with students and their parents to review time lines, payment procedure, and forms packet. Parents and guardians should be informed that students (especially state officers) have carefully outlined assignments and responsibilities during the conference, are responsible to an assigned adult, and will be expected to represent their school and state with appropriate behavior. We do not want to send a student home for disciplinary reasons (we will if necessary), nor do we want to lose a student. All students will be housed four to a room and advisers two to a room unless you notify the State FCCLA office. 2. Savvy will accept online credit card payments, purchase orders/checks and cashier s checks or money orders. Hotel Information The designated hotel for National Leadership Conference for the Washington Delegation is: Omni San Diego Hotel 675 L St. San Diego, CA 92101 (619) 231-6664 All lodging at the OMNI will be arranged through Savvy ONLY Parking: Overnight Valet Parking: $42 per car per night with in/out privileges. Public parking: a variety of parking garages are within 1 block of the hotel (prices vary) Check-In: 3:00 Check-Out: Noon Shipping: 3

6. The industry standard gratuity for baggage handling is usually $2.00 per bag into and out of the hotel. 7. Transportation information: Chapters will make their own travel arrangements from Washington to San Diego, California. Plan to arrive Saturday Saturday: Washington required Adviser s meeting Chapter Advisers pick up Registration and STAR Event Packets by 4:00 p.m. Sunday: Chapter Advisers pick up Registration and STAR Event Packets by 6:00 p.m. STAR Event Volunteer Orientation - 5:00 p.m. Mandatory STAR Events Participant Orientation - 6:00 p.m. Culinary Arts Orientation and Test - 6:00 p.m. San Diego International Airport 4 miles (14 minutes) Taxi: from Airport to Hotel will run approximately $18 plus airport fee, applicable taxes and a tip. 8. FCCLA has partnered with Delta Airlines to offer discounted airfare for attendees traveling to the 2016 National Leadership Conference. Find guidelines for accessing these discounted fares on page 32 of the National Leadership Conference Guide on the FCCLA website. 9. FCCLA Mandatory Dress Code: The National Leadership Conference is an excellent opportunity for members to convey to others the positive and professional image of FCCLA. Members behavior in the hotels and throughout the National Leadership Conference is the only image others in the hotel and host city may ever have of our organization. Student conduct and dress should contribute to the positive and professional image of FCCLA. The FCCLA official uniform is a red blazer, worn with a black skirt, black slacks, or a black sheath dress. The FCCLA official uniform is always appropriate and strongly encouraged. If not wearing the FCCLA official uniform, the mandatory dress code below should be worn. Thank you for your cooperation and support in putting forth a positive image of FCCLA throughout the National Leadership Conference! Advisers are responsible for enforcing the dress code. Delegates not adhering to the dress code will not be admitted into any session. Review the dress code in full on pages 16-17 of the National Leadership Conference Guide. **NEW FOR 2016 - NO khaki skirts or pants will be allowed. Student Delegates: The FCCLA official blazer is always appropriate and STRONGLY encouraged. Shoes should be worn at all times. Allowable attire for general sessions, workshops, and the STAR Events recognition sessions includes: a. Males: Red, black or white polo or oxford shirt with a collar (long or short sleeves); black dress slacks (no shorts); dress shoes and socks b. Females: Red, black or white polo or oxford shirt with a color (long or short sleeves); black skirts no shorter than 2 inches above the knee; black dress slacks or or capris (no shorts); black sheath dress no shorter than 2 inches above the knee, black dress shoes Advisers/Adults/Guests: Business professional All: jeans, t-shirts, and athletic wear are NOT acceptable 4

Inappropriate dress for all: Skin-tight or revealing clothing; midriff-baring clothing; extremely short skirts (shorter than 2 inches above the knee); clothing with printing that is suggestive, obscene, or promotes illegal substances; athletic clothing; swimwear; rubber, beach type flip flops; night wear (pajamas) should not be worn outside of your hotel room. 10. NLC Registration Packets and STAR Event Registration Information will need to be picked up by the Chapter Advisers at the NLC Registration Desk. 11. Washington State Meeting Days and Times Saturday, July 2, 10-11 p.m., Required WA Adviser only Meeting Sunday, July 3, 7:30-8:30 p.m., WA Advisers/Delegates State Meeting #1, Omni San Diego, Gallery 1 (Street Level) Tuesday, July 5, 4:30-4:55 p.m., WA Advisers/Delegates State Meeting #2, Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina, North Tower, Level 1, Pacific Ballroom 21 (Clock Hours are awarded based on your attendance at sessions including these 3 state meetings) State Photo Tuesday, July 5, 5:30 p.m. **Nationals has discontinued offering professional State Photos WA will attempt to take their own State Photo on the V shaped staircase out the back side of the convention center. See attached Photos at the end of this document. All Advisers & Delegates (Polo s & black slacks), Officers in Uniform 12. Register for all tours online. You will have the ability to see which tours have space immediately and receive immediate confirmation of tour registration. Tour registration will open in April. Remember tours are first come first serve so make sure you sign up right away for those that you want. See the FCCLA website for complete tour information and availability. There are a variety of tour options prior to the National Leadership Conference. When planning your travel, please leave plenty of time between your anticipated arrival and start of tours in which you plan to participate. FCCLA is NOT responsible for tour refunds due to delayed travel. Please remember to register for FCCLA sightseeing tours at times that do not interfere with planned attendance of any National Leadership Conference sessions you may be involved in. Tour tickets must be picked up no later than one (1) hour prior to departure. 13. STAR Events: Washington FCCLA will pay the STAR Events registration fee for the first place competitors representing Washington State at the National Leadership Conference. Several events allow more than one team to attend from each state. Washington FCCLA invites the second place teams in each of the allowed events to compete at the national level, but does not pay the STAR Event registration fee. Since STAR Events registration will occur online, the $45 fee will be applied to the students housing instead of to the STAR Events registration. The online event technology fee of $25 will be the responsibility of the chapter. Late fees and STAR Events change fees are the responsibility of the chapter/school. 5

STAR Event 1 st and 2 nd place teams will be imported from the State System. All STAR Event competitions will take place at the Hilton San Diego Bayfront Hotel, Manchester Grand Hyatt Hotel and the Marriott Marquis San Diego Marina Hotel. ALL NLC Hotels are within walking distance of each other. One option would be to have your project shipped to the hotel that your competition is assigned to. 6

Total Conference registration $278.00 (completed by May 4) 3. Estimated Lodging: $225.00 per night including Tax One room for 6 nights (7/2-7/7: Single/Double/Triple/Quad $1350 (single: $1350/person; double: $675/person; triple: $450/person; quad: $338/person) To keep costs down, we will be handling our own luggage at the hotel! Housing Deposit - Not required Full payment only 4. WA-FCCLA State Travel Package Fee: $85 invoiced with housing (Insurance, nametag, state shirt, copies, postage, Required for ALL. No trading pins, Hotel reservation services etc.) Exceptions 5. State Officers and National Officer Candidates Washington FCCLA helps support state and national leaders attendance at the national leadership conference. $125.00 will be paid by WA-FCCLA toward your hotel costs for the week. A credit of this amount will show on your invoice from Savvy Meetings and Events. State Officers should also be signed up for Leadership Academy: Launch. $15 will be credited toward your hotel costs for the week and will show on your invoice from Savvy Meetings and Events. 6. STAR Event Participants: WA-FCCLA will pay the amount of the national STAR Events registration fee ($45.00/person) for the first place national representatives. Other competitors who qualify to present at nationals will be responsible for their own STAR Events registration fee. $45 will be paid by WA-FCCLA toward your hotel costs for the week. A credit of this amount will show on your invoice from Savvy Meetings and Events. 7. Tours Register for all tours online. You will have the ability to see which tours have space immediately and receive immediate confirmation of tour registration. Tour registration opens in April. See the FCCLA website for complete tour information and availability. Please remember to make sure that you are not scheduling tours during STAR Events competition times, National program times, Washington State Meeting times or other responsibilities that your Chapter may have. 7

I also understand that I represent my school, family, community, and chapter. Therefore, I will: Not consume, use, or have in my possession drugs, alcohol, or other illegal substances. Not break any civil/criminal law. Maintain professional behavior: as an FCCLA member I represent the organization, my school and myself in all my interactions with others. Inform adviser and/or chapter adult of my location at all times. Meet with people, other than roommates, only in public places. Respect the dignity and privacy of roommates as well as all other event participants. Maintain professional relationships: recognizing that inappropriate physical contact with other members or students is not acceptable. Refrain from demonstrating public displays of affection. Respect hotel/convention center employees, guests, the community, and personal property. Participate in conference general sessions and workshops indicated on the program. Use all electronic devices, including cell phones, in an appropriate manner, including keeping them on privacy mode and not communicating during scheduled sessions and workshops. Dress professionally; as I reflect the image of FCCLA (no jeans, shorts or t-shirts, unless exceptions are made by state advisers i.e. conference t-shirt) since I reflect the image of FCCLA. This includes the closing session. Minimize noise in all public areas and hotel rooms, including stereos and TVs, particularly after established curfew times (recognizing that some hotels have earlier quiet times than recommended by WA-FCCLA). Remain in assigned room after curfew. Give permission to be photographed and published. I understand that failure to comply with the code of conduct may result in loss of privileges or other disciplinary action as determined by my local and/or state adviser.
