Marist Spirituality

Faith and Action Students of all faiths benefit from a robust spiritual life at Mount Saint Michael Academy. Students are invited to grow their relationship with God through prayer, personal reflection, study and action. All Mount students take part in regular prayer and worship, as well as classroom study in religion. Many choose to strengthen the bonds of Brotherhood by joining the Marist Youth Group to deepen their own spirituality. Others attend a guided retreat on campus or at the Marist Brothers retreat house in Esopus, N.Y. to draw closer to God and fellow students. But faith doesn t stop there. The founder of the Marist Brothers, St. Marcellin Champagnat, put his faith into action by reaching out to others to make Jesus known and loved. Today, we foster St. Marcellin s giving spirit by encouraging Mount Saint Michael Academy students to give to others through a number of unique service opportunities, from organizing food and fund drives to devoting time to worthwhile causes including Habitat for Humanity and Midnight Run, which provides aid to the homeless. Additionally, every student is required to volunteer 100 hours over their four It s a Fact Mount Saint Michael Academy is one of three schools in the New York metropolitan area that educates students in the tradition of excellence so characteristic of the Marist Brothers. In addition, we are part of a national and global network of schools founded by a congregation of Catholic teaching brothers. The Marist tradition of warmth and spirituality is very much alive with a community of Marist Brothers who work and teach at the Mount, as well as lay faculty, administrators and staff who embrace their mission. years at the Mount at an approved agency. The Office of Campus Ministry assists students in finding a suitable place in which they may best use their gifts and talents to provide Christian service. Juniors may participate in an overnight retreat, where they gain new insights into themselves, their classmates and teachers. Athletics

Mount Pride Since its founding in 1926, Mount Saint Michael Academy has earned a long and proud tradition of athletic excellence. Today, the Mount is a recognized New York powerhouse in a variety of sports including football and basketball, bringing home many state and city championships. But even more important, our studentathletes also excel in the classroom. In fact, many are selected for Scholar All-State teams and receive academic scholarships to attend college. Our 22-acre campus and ample facilities including a football stadium, outdoor track, two baseball fields, indoor batting cage and fully-equipped gymnasium support studentathletes as they strive for excellence. Winning records are fantastic, but most Mount athletes say the intangible benefits gained on the field and court carry them through life: the time-management skills acquired by balancing schoolwork and athletics, the lifelong bonds formed with teammates and coaches, and learning to lead through action and deeds. It s a Fact Participation in athletics challenges the individual and builds a strong sense of community.
