Learning about the procedures, choosing a doctor and understanding the process can be confusing. The staff at Phillips Eye Institute can answer your questions and help make your decision easier. Your journey It all starts with a consultation with an eye doctor who is trained in laser vision correction procedures. During this visit at the doctor s office, you ll learn about the different procedures and undergo testing to determine whether you are a good candidate for laser vision correction. So you can learn more about our doctors, profiles are included in the back of this brochure. Imagine not having to spend time putting contacts in each morning or taking them out at night. Imagine life without the hassle of misplaced glasses or fogged up lenses. Laser vision correction can reduce or eliminate your dependence on glasses and contacts. The test results from your consultation are used to create a digital map of your eyes surface and shape. Using this map, your doctor will determine which procedure is best for you. Later, the map will be used as a guide for the doctor to use in customizing the procedure for the specific type and amount of correction you need. On the day of your treatment, you will come to Phillips Eye Institute. First, your eye doctor will place anesthetic drops in your eyes. Then your eye doctor will use the map and the laser to remove microscopic layers of cells, sculpting your cornea to create a new shape one that will enable you to see more clearly. Patients usually experience some level of improvement immediately, then continue to improve over the next several days and weeks. Your laser vision correction journey will conclude with post-operative examinations at the eye doctor s office. Your doctor will also make sure your eyes are healing properly.

Our experience, our technology At the Phillips Eye Institute, we know how important your eye health and vision are. Many of the doctors who practice at the Phillips Eye Institute were among the first to perform laser vision correction procedures. All of the doctors are committed to learning the latest technology in the ever-changing field of eye care. Get started Our staff can help you decide whether laser vision correction is right for you. Call 1-888-301-0021. With the latest technology and our extensive expertise, we offer patients the best care and results possible. As the Upper Midwest s only specialty eye hospital, Phillips Eye Institute has earned a regional reputation for breaking ground in the area of laser vision correction. In fact, we were the first in Minnesota to install the Excimer laser, and Phillips Eye Institute is where doctors throughout the region come for training on the newest lasers available. You will also benefit from an experienced care team dedicated to the care and treatment of your eyes. Our staff has been recognized time and again for their highquality and uncompromising eye care.

Equipment and common procedures It is important to keep in mind that your treatment is best determined through a consultation with an eye doctor who will evaluate your circumstances and recommend the technology and procedure that is right for you. Excimer laser: a high tech laser used to remove precise layers of corneal tissue using high speed, non-thermal light. Generally, this laser is used for every laser vision correction procedure, but the technique and pattern vary depending upon each patient s individual needs. ilasik, LASIK (Flap Treatments): a laser or mechanical device is used to create a flap in the cornea under which the laser sculpts tissue in a custom (individual based) or standard (population based) pattern. Generally, patients experience the fastest recovery using these procedures. LASEK, PRK (Surface Treatments): laser sculpting is performed without making a corneal tissue flap. While recovery can be slower, results eventually equal those achieved with flap procedures. Custom Treatment: The pattern of laser treatment is based on your unique vision correction requirements. Standard Treatment: The laser s pattern is based on population studies developed by treating hundreds of thousands of patients over 20 years.
