Otterbein University Cardinal Marching Band Sound Off Summer 2011 Cardinal Marching Band, 2010 Celebrating Our 102nd Year!!! Hello to all new and returning members of the Cardinal Marching Band!!! Carrying on the tradition from seasons past, the 2011 Cardinal Marching Band promises to bring the excitement and pageantry our audiences have come to expect from the Sound of Central Ohio. With a continued influx of new recruits, and larger classes of returning veterans, the performance level is sure to reach new heights. We are pleased to present this ensemble as a vibrant part of the college culture, and plan to make new strides in becoming a focal point of campus and community activities. As the Cardinal Band moves to a more sustainable and eco friendly administrative process, this newsletter and some of the Cardinal Band s music arrangements will be sent as downloadable PDF files. This will help us to get information out faster through an easily monitored network. One defining event for the 2011 season is the 1 st Annual Cardinal Band Invitational, to be held on Saturday, September 10. This is a very exciting opportunity as we invite some of the top bands in the area to Memorial Stadium for an evening of great music making!!! There is simply too much to put into this tiny welcome back note, so I will leave it by simply saying: GO CARDS!!! Dr. Michael S. Yonchak, Director

Beginning on or before July 1, all information relevant to the upcoming fall will go online. This will include information specific to our auxiliary units, audition music for the percussion section, this newsletter, and information for our popular line of Cardinal Band Spirit Wear. This newsletter and the core show music for the upcoming season will be sent via EMAIL to the email address you indicated on your early registration form. This will help us not only get the music to you faster, but also help us become more environmentally aware as we save on paper copies. Other incidental music (such as stands tunes) will be distributed in hard copy at registration. PLEASE COMPLETE THE ONLINE REGISTRATION FORM SO WE CAN HAVE ALL MEALS, HOUSING ARRANGEMENTS, T SHIRTS, SHORTS AND OTHER RELATED ITEMS READY FOR YOU AT EARLY WEEK REGISTRATION. http://www.otterbein.edu/music/band.asp If you cannot submit the online form, a printable Acrobat (.pdf) version is available at the same website for you to download and mail back to us. 2011 Cardinal Band Leadership Council These Cardinal Band members have been chosen as the undergraduate staff for the 2011 season. PRE SEASON BAND REHEARSAL INFORMATION Early Move In: One of the perks you receive as a member of the Cardinal Marching Band is the option to move into your permanent campus housing before New Student Weekend. Registration, General Information, and Fees Unless you are in the Drumline or Auxiliary Units, new and returning students should report to the lobby of the Battelle Fine Arts Center for Early Week registration on Wednesday, August 17, beginning at 4:00pm. After checking in with the marching band staff, you may then proceed to the Otterbein Student Center to register for housing and begin moving in to your permanent housing for the school year! Please do not report to your residence hall until you have checked in with us at Battelle. To help defray the costs of Early Week, each student is charged a yearly fee of $140. This charge will appear on your tuition statement, and will be applied to all band camp meals, as well as provide you with one band t shirt, a pair of mesh shorts (to be worn under the uniform), game day cap, and your first pair of white gloves (if needed).
