Welcome! Delegation of Stockholm-Mälar Region visiting Amsterdam, February 10th 2016

The Expatcenter makes it easier for highly skilled migrants, scientific researchers and foreign entrepeneurs to live and work in Amsterdam. Qualifiying companies can start the paperwork before arrival, and a single visit to the Expatcenter will complete the process. Our website, (www.expatcenter.com) has loads of valuable information on a wide range of topics including housing, education, taxes and healthcare. 2

Amsterdam Top City City Council Programme set up in 2006 Goal: remain in top 5 European Cities Maintain image as entrepreneurial, innovative and creative city Programmes (50 mio) focus on: A. Removing unnecessary obstacles Expats, hospitality B. Making a difference Top level education - Harvard on the Amstel Facilitating creativity (Amsterdam Fashion) C. Showing strength Large events and city marketing (Fashion week, Olympics, Giro d Italia, Sail) 3

Reasons to set up the Expatcenter Investment climate was found negatively affected by: Services dispersed; Procedures not very well integrated; Legislation and regulation not always transparent; Service levels not always up to standard; English language level not always sufficient; Private sector service providers not always reliable. 4

Solutions and scope of the project Set up a one stop shop : marketplace for public and private services (first month in the Netherlands); Improve relevant procedures with the Dutch Immigration Service (Expatcenter procedure); Improve English language information (website www.iamsterdam.com); Improve service levels ( Welcome ) 5

The Expatcenter Amsterdam Area... is a co-operation between the City of Amsterdam together with other municipalities of the Amsterdam Metropolitan Region, the Immigration and Naturalisation Service and the Tax Office combines municipal and national services at one location on regional level serves highly skilled migrants and scientific researchers, start-up entrepeneurs and internationals students orientating at the Dutch labour market (and dependents) offers a resource of information for expats 6

Feedback of a client from India (ICT company) Everything is suddenly transparent! Before this, there were lots of agencies and organizations all over the place, and you never knew where to go or why you had to register there. Now it s all there in front of you. A great example of how you can make the expats experience more efficient and enjoyable. In my years of working HR and expats, I have never seen anything like this! 7

Soft landing Municipal and IND officers stand ready to help arrange the formalities for incoming highly skilled migrants All paperwork can be arranged at one location, at the World Trade Center in Amsterdam No separate visit to the municipality is necessary, municipal registration is done at the WTC Civil citizen number is available immediately Information resource and links to social networks Questions & welcome My first month in the Netherlands http://www.iamsterdam.com/en/local/move/expat-resources/my-first-month-booklet 8
