500 Startups and UC Berkeley, in collaboration with Startup@BerkeleyLaw and Berkeley Innovators, present... PROGRAM CONTENT Venture Capital as an Asset Class Venture Capital Unlocked: Deal Camp at Berkeley Deal Camp is a four-day course focused on the nuts and bolts of deal making for investors who want to improve their ability to define, negotiate, and execute early-stage investments. Participants will work with leading UC Berkeley faculty and 500 Partners to develop strategies to structure deals in order to maximize investment returns. Program participants will attend the class at UC Berkeley for Deal Camp on October 23, 24, 27 and attend 500 Startups Demo Day in San Francisco on October 25. October 25-27. Deal Camp will use a project-based learning approach in which participants will take part in a negotiation simulation with real companies which they will have seen pitch at 500 Startups Demo Day. INSTRUCTORS METHODOLOGY The program combines a theoretical approach with hands-on learning. The course builds on Berkeley professors wealth of knowledge and the deep practical knowledge of 500 managing partners and staff. Participants learn through real-life case studies, discussions, lectures, and simulation exercises. FAQs 1. Are there any scholarship opportunities for accepted applicants? There are currently no scholarships available for this program. Past participants have self-funded the program or received sponsorship from their current employer. We encourage participants to look for additional funding in their local angel groups, venture capital associations, and other groups/individuals who would benefit from the knowledge you ll gain from participating in the program. 2. What is the class size? The average size of our program is 35 participants and is designed to ensure that all participants have an opportunity to receive mentoring and feedback from both the 500 Startups and Berkeley faculty. 3. Does the program require a full time commitment? The program is designed as a four day course running from 8:30am to 6pm every day. As such, it s expected that participants devote 100% of this time to the program. 4. How long has this program been running? Our program started in 2016. In our October 2017 session, we will be educating our third cohort of investors. 5. Which hotel is the closest and/or within walking distance of the program facility? There are a number of hotels within in walking distance or a short commute to Boalt Hall on Berkeley s campus. There are also a number of Airbnb rentals available near the campus for those interested in using the service. Hotels in the area include: The Claremont Hotel and Resort, Bancroft Hotel, Hotel Durant, Berkeley City Club, Shattuck Plaza, and the Double Tree Berkeley Marina. 6. Are meals provided? Breakfasts, lunches, and most dinner will be provided as part of the program. During the program, participants can expect to have two free nights in which they will be responsible for their own dinner. 7. What is the typical attire during a program? There is no dress code required and the culture in Bay Area is quite laid back, so you do not need to dress up. 8. When is payment due? The final payment for the program must be received by October 13th. 9. What forms of payment are accepted? The program fee can be paid using check, wire transfer, and credit card payment. 10. Who can I contact with questions regarding payment? Questions regarding payments can be directed to: dviolante@law.berkeley.edu. 11. What is your cancellation policy? Participants can cancel with a full refund until October 13th. After that date, refunds will no longer be allowed, but participants will be allowed to apply their credit to the next Deal Camp program. 16 17

12. What is included in the program fee? The program fee is $9,200 and covers tuition, all course materials, most meals, and admission and transport to Demo Day. Travel and accommodations are not included. Additionally, there are special rate available for VC Unlocked and UC Berkeley alumni. 17. How do I enroll in the program? To enroll in the program, participants must fill out the application available on the program website. If admission is offered to the candidate, the participant will need to fill out the enrollment survey and complete payment of the course fee to be fully enrolled in the program. 13. Where can I find the program schedule/agenda? Please see the agenda in the PDF for a sample of past agendas. Approximately 2 weeks prior to the program a final agenda will be distributed to registered participants. 14. Should I bring my laptop? This program is designed to give both theoretical and practical knowledge. Some sessions will require participants to work in excel. As such, it s recommended that participants bring an excel-enabled laptop in order to fully engage in the class exercises. 15. How much time can I expect to spend on coursework each day? The course is designed to engage participants for the duration of the day (8:30am to 6pm). Participants can expect to have about an hour of homework each day of the program. 16. Where do the programs take place? The program will take place between the University of California, Berkeley in Berkeley, California and 500 Startups Demo Day venue in San Francisco. October 23rd, 24th, and 26th will take place at Berkeley. October 25th will begin on Berkeley s campus. In the afternoon, participants will be transported to San Francisco to participate in Demo Day. After Demo Day and a dinner, transportation back to Berkeley, CA will be provided. 18. What is the enrollment deadline for a program? The deadline for enrolling in the program is October 13, 2017. 19. Can I enroll in a program if I live outside of the U.S.? Yes, the program is designed for participants from all over the world. 20. Do I need a visa to attend a program? As each participant s situation is different, we recommend participants consult visa requirements for entry into the United States. For participants requiring a visa, we will provide a welcome letter with contact information to support the visa request. Individuals needing a visa should reach out to the admissions team with requests for welcome letters. 21. Where is the nearest international airport? The San Francisco Bay Area is served by two international airports. Participants flying to the program can fly into either San Francisco International Airport (SFO) or Oakland International Airport (OAK). 22. Where is the nearest public transportation? The University of California, Berkeley is served by one train station on the BART system. The closest BART station is Downtown Berkeley and is roughly 6 blocks away from campus.
