Where we are Lombardy Region Region profile the 4th largest Italian Region (23,861 km2) the most populated Italian Region (9,475,202 inhabitants) about 21% of national GDP GPP state of implementation at 2004 many Local Authorities implementing Local Agenda 21 few Local Authorities implementing GPP GPPnet project implemented by Province of Cremona (Life- Environment co-financed) at present 5 provinces implementing GPP many GPP projects co-financed by regional funding bids a GPP working group in regional network for Local A21

Tools (2/2) What we ve done Appalti verdi in Ob2 : a regional pilot project Funding bid for GPP communication (April 2005 March 2006) Beneficiary: Municipalities, Parks, Provinces Financed: meetings, seminars, brochures and communication initiatives involving public officers, citizens and suppliers Monitoring (October 2005 in progress) Local green market (phone interviews and questionnaires to L.As and their suppliers) Effectiveness of local GPP policies implemented (environmental accounting) Project outcomes in order to improve future actions

What we ve done Appalti verdi in Ob2 : a regional pilot project Outcomes 46 L.As and 8 public suppliers involved in 9 informative workshops 22 L.As involved in 8 technical assistance meetings 37 L.As involved in 8 projects of GPP communication Participants from L.As: 16% politicians 41% public purchasers 24% environmental officers 18% other departments officers

What we ve learned Regional highlights Promotion of: Strategies and Action Plans, more than individual actions of purchasing Cooperation between who implements and who promotes GPP Matching between sustainable demand and supply Sustainable production and consumption models Best pactices visibility GPP as tool for economic efficiency (joint purchasing, energetic efficiency, costs/savings during life cycle)

What we ll do Regional actions Agreement with Regional Environmental Protection Agency, Milan Chamber of Commerce and Province of Cremona joint actions to promote GPP Regional prevention and reduction air pollution law proposal environmental purchasing criteria for municipal vehicles and ICT equipment New European Structural Funds programming (2007-2013) proposal of GPP strategies and eco-innovation in private sector Involvement in GPP working group of the Italian National Association for Local Agenda 21 consulted by Italian Environment Ministery in drafting of GPP National Action Plan
