Medicine Hat Social Responsibility Investment Program 2014 Summary Report December 31, 2014 1

Medicine Hat Social Responsibility Investment Program Overview Methanex s Social Responsibility Investment Program provides opportunities for our company and employees to actively participate in and contribute to the community in ways that are integrated and aligned with our corporate vision, core values, and business strategy. Methanex has three (3) main areas of emphasis for social investment: 1. Responsible Care Community Investments (Grants or Sponsorship) Methanex s core Responsible Care Community Investment pillars are: 1. Health and Safety: enhancing personal and workplace health, wellness, and safety Strong communities start with healthy and safe communities. Investing in programs that enhance and strengthen the health and well-being or encourage the safety of individuals in our communities is one of our top priorities. We support programs that advance continued health and safety for individuals. Emphasis is put on results-oriented programs that empower people to achieve healthier and safer lives. 2. Environment: fostering environmental innovation, conservation, and awareness The future relies on healthy and resilient communities that respect the environment. By supporting and partnering with organizations that advance environmental innovation, conservation or awareness, we contribute to the strength and sustainable growth of our community for years to come. 3. Community sustainability: building capacity for a strong and prosperous future We invest in programs that contribute to a vibrant, dynamic future for our community. We aim to address issues that impact the sustainability of our community to fuel healthy growth for years to come. 2. Partnership with Employees The following programs are designed to encourage and recognize employee charitable contributions in the community: Matching Employee Individual and Group Fundraising Programs Methanex will match funds raised by an individual employee up to $100 or a group of employees up to $2,000 for each fundraising event. Matching University/Alumni Program The purpose of this program is to broaden Methanex s financial support to higher education and to encourage employee gifts to institutions of higher learning by matching employee contributions to qualified educational institutions. 3. Education Post-Secondary Scholarship Program Scholarships are an important social investment in our local communities and an important link in the attraction and recruitment of appropriate candidates for future employment. All scholarships or awards are established in the areas of study that relate to Methanex s business functions: marketing and logistics, environmental studies, information technology, accounting, finance, chemical or mechanical engineering, or research projects related to Methanex s business. 2

2014 Social Responsibility Investment Program Highlights 1. Responsible Care Community Investments Methanex made a $100,000 sponsorship commitment over five years (2012-2016) to the City of Medicine Hat Methanex Bowl. The funding helped the City leverage other levels of government funding for upgrades to the Methanex Bowl sports field in 2014. We are proud to have hosted Methanex Kiddies Day at the Medicine Hat Exhibition and Stampede for the second year in 2014. This annual family-friendly event includes free park admissions, free refreshment, a scavenger hunt with prizes, face painting, and games. In addition to funding support, Methanex employees volunteer at the event. During the Stampede, Methanex employees and their family members also are ambassadors in the Information Booth, helping to answer visitors questions. Methanex has been a major sponsor of the City of Medicine Hat s Community Litter Blitz for the past two years. In addition to providing funding support, approximately 25 employees and their family members volunteer during the oneday event to clean up an area of the city. In 2014, we focused on the Box Springs Business Park and 23 Street NW areas located near our plant. Community Litter Blitz. Community Litter Blitz. 3

Methanex has had a partnership with the Praxis Science and Technology Network for the past two years. Praxis mandate is to provide positive science experiences and access to science and technology resources, especially for local youth. Methanex employees volunteer annually as judges at the Regional Science Fair. We were also a host site for Praxis Operation Minerva, which provides an opportunity for Grade 9 girls to job shadow with women in science and technology careers. Earth Rangers in Medicine Hat. Methanex s donation of $7,500 enabled five Medicine Hat Praxis' Operation Minerva. elementary schools (1,118 students) to receive a live presentation about the importance of biodiversity from the Earth Rangers Educational Outreach Program. This program uses science-based information to educate children about the importance of protecting biodiversity while highlighting different conservation initiatives across Canada. Following the presentations, more than 300 students from Medicine Hat joined the Earth Rangers program and are now engaging in ongoing education and conservation activities at home. Recognizing that a large multi-sport event would draw on environmental resources, the 2016 Alberta Winter Games Committee is incorporating sustainable actions into the framework of the Games. The overall goal is to reduce the impact of the Games on the environment and provide tools, resources, and inspiration for future sporting events in Medicine Hat. Methanex has committed to provide $16,127 (2014-2015) to support the following sustainable initiatives into the 2016 Alberta Winter Games: waste reduction, sustainable transportation, water conservation, idle free programming, and the educational/communications strategies to celebrate all these initiatives. The Games will showcase sustainability initiatives to both the local community and a broader audience of people from all across Alberta, thereby magnifying reach and future impact. HALO Medevac offers the only dedicated medical rescue helicopter for the southeast Alberta area. It is a much needed contribution to the already established air and ground ambulance crews of southeastern Alberta. HALO is used to assist police agencies with search and rescue, as well as other life-saving emergencies. The availability of the helicopter decreases response time to trauma victims in remote or inaccessible areas and increases the coverage area for delivering medical care. Donations are HALO s only source of revenue. In 2014, Methanex provided a donation of $5,950 to this service. 4

Methanex made a two-year sponsorship commitment (2013-2014) to Medalta s annual fundraising event the Black and White Gala. Funds raised at the Gala are directed to Medalta s artistic, community and education programs, which reach tens of thousands of people each year. Medalta is a provincial cultural and heritage facility which preserves and interprets Western Canada s industrial heritage. The Methanex Black & White Gala is a perfect example of community coming together to support community. Medicine Hat has a comprehensive five-year plan to end homelessness which is based on a set of goals and specific measurable targets and strategies. The community is on target to be the first in Canada to have a successful plan to end homelessness. Methanex recognizes it is a collaborative effort to achieve this goal, involving not only local, provincial and federal governments, but the business community as well. Therefore, we provided $5,500 in 2014 to the Medicine Hat Community Housing Society s Plan to End Homelessness to help support community initiatives essential to achieving the plan. Methanex Black and White Gala at Medalta. In December, 15 Methanex elves boarded buses to deliver presents to families-in-need with the Medicine Hat News Santa Claus Fund. Methanex has supported this organization for the past three years. This year, we donated $5,400 and were able to ensure that 12 local families-in-need would be able to celebrate the holiday season. Methanex provided $2,000 to River Heights Elementary School for the development of its Interactive Outdoor Learning Environment. The elementary school will be building an outdoor amphitheatre and covered benches, and hopes the project will encourage collaborative exploration, creation, and reflection among students. Upon its completion, the facility can also be used by the local community for recreational activities. For the third year in a row, Methanex sponsored the Medicine Hat Drag Racing Association. The organization relies on community involvement for its success, and our $1,500 contribution went towards the development and maintenance of their facility which is located north of our plant site. In October, Methanex sponsored the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada s (CIAC) Alberta Chemistry Day with a donation of $3,500. CIAC, an organization representing the interests of Canada s leading chemical companies, has hosted this event for the last 15 years which is attended by Alberta government officials and chemistry industry representatives. Methanex supported the Alberta Children s Hospital with a contribution of $500. Located in Calgary, AB, the hospital provides care for Medicine Hat children and focuses on advanced pediatric research and education. We supported the Medicine Hat and District Child Care Association s National Child Day on Nov. 20 with a $250 donation. In partnership with our local YMCA, the association organizes a day of free activities for families with the ultimate goals of raising awareness about children s rights and encouraging healthy, active lifestyles. Our donation helped provide free, healthy snacks for the families who attended. The healthy snacks Methanex provided funding for at National Child Day. 6

2. Partnership with Employees Methanex encourages employee volunteerism and charitable fundraising. Funds raised by employees through our Partnership with Employees programs are matched by Methanex. In 2014, Methanex matched the following employee fundraising activities: Methanex s Social Responsibility Committee committed its fundraising efforts in 2014 to the Kidney Foundation of Canada Kidney March in support of an employee and family member whose lives are affected by kidney disease. On June 11, we held an on-site barbecue to raise funds for the Kidney Foundation. The total amount raised from the event and on-site donations was $2,670.85, which Methanex matched for a total donation of $5,341.70. At the Big Brothers Big Sisters Bowl for Kids Sake our Methan-All-Stars Team raised $2,433.40, which was matched $2,000 for a total donation of $4,433.40. 100 km Kidney March. For the Sexual Assault Response Committee s Walk a Mile in Her Shoes our Methanex employees raised $1,235, which was fully matched for a total donation of $2,470. Our employees raised $560 for the Bustin Loose Race to End Breast Cancer. With the Methanex match, the total donation provided was $1,120. The Food Bank Food Drive wrapped up on Nov. 19 and we once again surpassed our giving. Our total site donation to the Medicine Hat and District Food Bank for 2014 was 18,752 lbs an increase of 5,285 lbs over last year. This year, our site was incredibly generous with their monetary contributions. As every dollar is worth two pounds of food, our financial contribution alone was worth 18,147 lbs of food. Methan-All-Stars at Bowl for Kids Sake. Our Maintenance department raised the most pounds of food during our Food Bank Food Drive in 2014. 7

3. Education A donation from Methanex will provide power engineering, welding, and steamfitter/pipefitter students at Medicine Hat College with more opportunities for educational funding and enhanced learning experiences. The $25,000 pledge over five years (2013-2017) will go towards: supporting power engineering students with two annual academic scholarships ($12,500), and program enhancements for the welding and steamfitter/pipefitter programs to enhance the student experience ($12,500).
