T ensure that all Faculty f Health students, wh undertake prfessinal experience placement (PEP) as part f their prgram, establish and maintain their capacity t practice safely in cmpliance with legislative, UTAS Safe t Practise Plicy and prfessinal bdy requirements. b. T assist Faculty f Health Prgram persnnel t administer student Safety in Practice dcumentatin and risk assessment f student medical, physical and psychlgical capacity t safely undertake the Faculty f Health Mandatry Functinal Requirements (Appendix 1). c. T infrm Faculty f Health students and prspective students t enable timely decisins as t their prgram chice. All students enrlled in Faculty f Health prgrams which include a prfessinal experience placement cmpnent, labratry and/r field activity and Faculty persnnel with assciated duties. Students nt meeting these prcedural requirements may be deemed ineligible t participate in such prgrams. 3 Safety in Practice Cmpliance and Risk Assessment Prcedure 3.1 The Faculty f Health Safety in Practice Cmpliance and Risk Assessment Prcedure enables fair and equitable assessment f student capacity t legally and safely undertake the Faculty PEP Mandatry Functinal Requirements. 3.2 The Faculty Manager, PEP Safety in Practice assesses student capacity t practice safely via Faculty Prfessinal Experience Placement Guidelines and Prcedures. Student Safety in Practice cmpliance requirements include risk assessment f: natinal criminal histry; wrking with children registratin; medical, physical and psychlgical capacity t safely undertake the Faculty f Health Mandatry Functinal Requirements; and infectius disease and immunisatin status. Safety in Practice Requirements prcedures and frms are lcated n the Faculty f Health PEP website. 3.4 The Safety in Practice cmpliance prcess has implicatins fr student participatin in the prgram: Natinal criminal histry and medical, physical and psychlgical disclsures, which are subsequently risk assessed fr student capacity t practice safely, may inhibit student eligibility t participate in curses. Risk assessment must therefre, be cmpleted prir t enrlment census date. NOTE: Learning Access Plan Applicatins cannt be apprved until this cmpliance prcess is cmpleted. The Wrking with Children Registratin Card and Immunisatin Recrd Frm/Card must be cmpleted (with Hep B vaccinatin begun) and submitted by week 1 f semester 2. Cntinuing students dcumentatin checks and risk assessments must be cmpleted by: census date f semester ne; r earlier as per any individual Prgram requirements (Prgram t advise). 4 Student Respnsibility 4.1 Student accesses the Safety in Practice Requirements page n the Faculty f Health PEP website and dwnlads a Safety in Practice Agreement Frm and cmpletes the requirements as specified within (assciated frms are hyperlinked). 4.2 If a medical, physical r psychlgical disclsure is made in Sectin 9 f the Safety in Practice Agreement, the student dwnlads a Safe t Practice Health Assessment Frm fr cmpletin by their health practitiner. Nte: The Head f Prgram, in cnjunctin with the Manager, Prfessinal Experience Placement (PEP) Safety in Practice, can als request an assessment frm an independent health practitiner in cases where a student has been withdrawn frm PEP r additinal infrmatin is received. 4.3 Student cmpletes the fllwing dcumentatin and submissin prcess: 4.3.1 Safety in Practice Agreement uplad int InPlace; 4.3.2 Natinal Plice Certificate submit t the PEP Administratr/Crdinatr fr their Prgram; 4.3.3 If a disclsure is made in Sectin 9 f the Safety in Practice Agreement - uplad the FH Safe t Practice Health Assessment Reprt int InPlace; and 4.3.4 Students with disabilities/health cnditins seeking a Learning Access Plan uplad the FH Safe t Practice Health Assessment Reprt and Disability Services Health Practitiner Reprt r Educatinal Psychlgist Reprt (learning disability) int InPlace. Safety in Practice Cmpliance and Risk Assessment Prcedure 5 Faculty Manager, PEP Safety in Practice Respnsibility 5.1 Receives and reviews student Safety in Practice dcumentatin with disclsure/s and cnducts risk assessment, which can include interview with student. This risk assessment includes a student PEP supprt needs assessment cmpnent fr students with disabilities/health cnditins. 5.2 Advises the student and PEP Administratr/Crdinatr f risk assessment utcme: a) Clear t attend PEP. b) Clear t attend PEP with cnditin/s. c) Ineligible t attend PEP. 5.3 Identifies supprt requirements, in cnsultatin with the Disability Adviser where required, and refers the student t Prgram PEP supprt persnnel - 5.2 b). 5.4 Cunsels the student as t alternative prgram chices - 5.2 c). 6 Disability Adviser Respnsibility 6.1 When meeting with the student t develp a Learning Access Plan, the Disability Adviser (DA) includes discussin f FH Safety in Practice mandatry functinal requirements and ensures that the student has submitted the FH Safe t Practice Health Assessment Reprt and Disability Services Health Practitiner Reprt r Educatinal Psychlgist Reprt (learning disability). 6.2 If the implicatins f student s disability/health cnditin are nt likely t impact n mandatry functinal requirements, the DA frwards the LAP Applicatin t the FH Manager, PEP Safety in Practice. 6.3 If the implicatins f student s disability/health cnditin are likely t impact n mandatry functinal requirements, the DA can: seek advice frm FH Manager, PEP Safety in Practice and prceed; r refer the student, with their health/disability dcumentatin, t the FH Manager, PEP Safety in Practice fr risk assessment, with the student: 7 Mre infrmatin clear t attend PEP DA ntified t frward the LAP Applicatin; r ineligible t participate in PEP - Student is cunselled as t alternative prgram chices and the DA is ntified that the LAP Applicatin is nt required. Learning Access Plan is a frmal agreement setting ut academic supprt prvisins fr students with a disability that may have an impact n their ability t fulfil the requirements f the prgram f study r t demnstrate what they have learned in assessment. The cmpulsry, nt negtiable, cmpnents specific t an educatinal prgram being undertaken by all persns. Mandatry functinal requirements are recgnised as inherent requirements under UTAS Disability Plicy. Prfessinal Experience Placement is Faculty f Health terminlgy fr Wrk Integrated Learning (WIL) and practice cmpnents in a prgram. Faculty f Health curse (e.g. medicine, nursing, pharmacy) Measure f criminal ffences and health impairments against Safety in Practice eligibility criteria. UTAS Plicy t ensure that: functins and activities relating t the inherent requirements f PEP may be undertaken by students withut risk t the health and safety f self and thers; and students wh undertake PEP establish, declare and maintain their capacity t practice safely. Capacity t read and write t enable the student t: read and understand patient/client recrds, charts and/r medicatin labels and dsages; and accurately recrd patient/client ntes. 2. Capacity t undertake critical thinking and reflective analysis t: self evaluate and reflect upn ne s wn practice, feelings and beliefs and the cnsequences f these fr individuals and grups. 3. Capacity t cmmunicate t enable the student t: interact with patients/clients and health practitiners in a prfessinal setting; accept instructin and prfessinal criticism; questin directins and decisins which are unclear; and reslve cnflict and negtiate with staff and patients/clients. 4. Psychlgical capacity t: understand the imprtance f and demnstrate the prfessinal attributes f hnesty, integrity, critical judgement, insight and empathy; interact with patients/clients, carers and thers in a caring, respectful manner t prvide emtinal supprt and health educatin; and maintain self-cntrl in prfessinal situatins. 5.
