One of our major fund raisers just passed on November 11 th, our biannual Fill the Bucket. We were able to net profit $1500.00 in 3 hours. I would like to thank all those who worked the corners to raise this money, and those who helped us count it at the end. And a big thanks to all of those who gave donations. In case you were not aware, the Fill the Bucket proceeds only goes towards veterans projects. We have confirmed that we will be co-joining with the Manchester Mustangs again this year for the Toys for Tots program. The Marine Corps Reserve boxes are in our lounge now, so please stop by and donate an unwrapped toy when you can. It s such a great cause and pleasure to give those kids in need a Christmas. I want to thank Barry Hare for confirming this information for us this year. Another great fundraiser for the SAL is our annual comedy and dinner show held in February near Valentine s Day. This year we are looking for some new comedians. I have heard some grumbles and mixed opinions in the past but I do listen. We are working out the details, to bring you better entertainment, so please hang in there with us. More details to follow soon. Remember the Ace of Diamonds tickets are drawn weekly. This game continues to grow and drawings are held every Friday night at 8:00PM. Stop by the lounge to get your tickets. Our next meeting will be on December 14th at 7:00 PM. Please consider making a meeting and getting involved. Thank you for your continued support! Kenny Shipton Squadron Commander...from the Squadron

Many of us are guilty of this problem - I am the Champ! Just ask our Reporter Editor Doug Lawrence; he will certainly attest to this fact. But when it comes to membership dues, I get mine in right away. After all, I am the Membership Chairman and I must lead by example. How about you? Do you have your 2018 card in your wallet? I am looking at a report that says at least 75 of our current members have ignored at least two renewal notices from the National Organization. What are you waiting for? We know that you want to retain your membership in the largest and best Veteran's Service Organization in the world. Please don't wait any longer. Let's get those checks in today! A consequence of delaying your payment 'til after the New Year, will be that you will have to pay dues of $34 instead of the current rate of $30.50. National has approved a $3.50 raise to the dues rate. I do want to thank the 216 members who have paid their membership on time. Allan Wright Legion Rider Director VETERAN VICTOR & VETERAN VICTORIA BENEFITTING AMERICA S VETERANS Greetings Legionnaires! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! The holiday season is officially here, so I will focus on helping veterans AND active duty personnel. First, I d like to inform our readers about a very special gift from the President of the United States: ITEM! Fortunately, concerning veterans benefits, there s no shortage of support in Washington. Unanimously passed, and signed into law is the Forever G.I. Bill, meaning that on the date the law went into effect, veterans can use it perpetually with no expiration date. The new bill allows veterans the luxury of choosing any approved form of education such as college, vocational school, home study leading to a diploma, degree, etc. For details go to dva.gov/ forevergibill. ITEM! Holidays are the loneliest times for active duty and veterans. Care Packages may be sent to them at moveamericaforward.org. For mailing details, go to usps.com/guide. A great gift, especially for our troops overseas is a new cell phone battery. You can order them; have the item delivered to your address; them mailed to the recipient at the APO address thru the USPS. Refer to the address listed previously for details. The site I visited is an award-winning site by the B e t t e r B u s i n e s s B u r e a u : g o t o deals.mycellphonebattery.com. ITEM! Military personnel returning home for the holidays can attend events at vettix.com. Tickets are significantly discounted and without all the high-priced service charges. ITEM! Here s a list of charities and organizations for the holiday season: Operation Home Front, Semper Fi Fund, Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), Iraq and Afghanistan Fund, and you can call your local USO branch. Go to MilitaryBenefits.info>Resources for details. Finally, I d like to wish everyone a joyous holiday season. Whichever holiday you observe, be it Christmas, Hanukkah or any other, I wish you all a very Happy, Healthy Joyous and Wonderful holiday season!
