Médecins Sans Frontières Australia Job Description Position: Location: Reporting to: Supervising: Status: Major Gifts Coordinator Sydney (Broadway) Major Gifts Manager NA Full Time Organisational Context. Médecins Sans Frontières is the world s leading independent organisation for medical humanitarian aid. Every day more than 24,000 Médecins Sans Frontières field staff are providing assistance to people caught in crises around the world. We have offices in 23 countries supporting these teams, including our office in Sydney. Médecins Sans Frontières field staff includes doctors, nurses, administrators, epidemiologists, laboratory technicians, mental health professionals, logistics and water and sanitation experts. The majority of our teams are made up of national field staff from the countries where the crises are occurring with ten percent made up of international field staff. Médecins Sans Frontières teams are currently in over 60 countries, working with more than 22,000 locally recruited national staff The Australian Section of Médecins Sans Frontières was established in 1995 and has experienced significant growth in recent years. Every year around one hundred and fifty Australians and New Zealanders are sent to and supported in the field by Médecins Sans Frontières Australia.. In addition, in 2014 almost 100,000 monthly givers and over 50,000 occasional givers will donate over AUD$80 million to the work of the movement. The position to which the Major Gifts Coordinator reports, the Major Gifts Manager is one of four manager roles within the Fundraising Department. The other three are the Direct Marketing Manager, Regular Giving Manager and Data Manager These positions report to the Head of Fundraising. The Major Gifts department has specific responsibility for the successful implementation of various marketing projects from which Médecins Sans Frontières Australia expects to generate in excess of $10 million of revenue annually.
This revenue will be generated primarily from individual major donors, with substantial additional income generated from trusts and foundations. In addition the team manages a limited sponsorship and corporate engagement program on a reactive basis. In conjunction with the projects for which the Major Gifts Manager is responsible, the Fundraising Department also runs substantial face to face programs and associated activities and direct marketing programs involving direct mail, DRTV, telephone, on the page advertising, and press inserts amongst others. Médecins Sans Frontières is committed to expanding and improving the medical-humanitarian care it offers to its beneficiaries. The fulfilment of this objective is dependant on the fundraising team meeting its substantial growth targets. Overall Responsibility To provide high level support for, and substantially contribute to, Médecins Sans Frontières Australia s revenue generation activities through assisting in developing, implementing and continually improving strategies targeted at securing major gifts through individual and business donors, trusts and foundations, work place giving and other relevant areas as identified in the fundraising strategy. The primary success measure for this position is income raised, however non tangibles including preservation of brand integrity in representing Médecins Sans Frontières to the public and maintaining and developing relationships with key supporters and suppliers are also vital to the successful fulfillment of the role. To work with the Major Gifts Manager and the Major Gifts Officer to ensure the ongoing success of the Major Gifts Program. Budget Work with the Major Gifts Manager to establish income and expenditure budgets for all aspects of the major gifts program Ensure that all projects are carried out with and within approved expenditure limits. Ensure all deliverables including and program timings and expectations are met. Take appropriate action to meet any divergence from expected deliverables. Assist the Major Gifts Manager in the production of regular reports on the status of major gifts programs.
Major Donors Assist the Major Gifts Manager to develop, implement and continually refine a comprehensive major donor engagement strategy incorporating highly developed relationship building techniques including: o Comprehensive direct and customised mail and other marketing techniques and communications o Building and maintaining high level individual donor relationships with a particular focus on major donor prospects. o Developing and maintaining a comprehensive major donor prospect program o Conducting events aimed specifically at a major donor audience. Take individual responsibility for the delivery of appropriate projects within the Major Donor program. Work with Major Gifts Officer to ensure completion of projects within budget and by deadlines Where appropriate, work with other members of the fundraising team to integrate major donor strategies into relevant aspects of other fundraising activities. In conjunction and consultation with the Major Gifts Manager, facilitate the involvement of the Executive Director, members of the board and senior staff in aspects of the Major Donor Program as appropriate. Provide a direct contact for major donors and major donor prospects within the organisation as appropriate. Take individual responsibly for the relationship management of selected individual major donors. Events In conjunction with the Major Gift Manager take responsibility for all aspects of planning and coordinating Executive Briefings, for donors in different geographic locations attendance may be required at the events In conjunction with the Direct Marketing Team take responsibility for planning and coordinating all aspects of Supporter Briefings that relate to Major Donors in different geographic locations - attendance may be required at these events Take responsibility for other events as required Trusts and Foundations Work with the Major Gift Manager to develop and implement a range of activities aimed at increasing support for the work of Médecins Sans Frontières from Australian based trusts and foundations: Prepare written proposals and facilitate formalised feedback to trusts and foundations. Facilitate research into and maintain knowledge of the trust and foundation sector Manage the relationship and funding agreements between selected gifting trusts and foundations and MSF Australia. Ensure these relationships and agreements are maintained to the highest degree of integrity.
Corporate and Sponsorship Working with the Major Gift Manager to provide reactive support to offers of corporate support or sponsorship Evaluate unsolicited corporate and sponsorship proposals and provide recommendations to the Major Gifts Manager Internal Relationships Ensure all internal relationships are of a high standard and contribute positively to the growth of the Fundraising Department and the organisation as a whole. Ensure the Contributor Service Centre is fully appraised of ongoing and upcoming work. Compliance Ensure that all work undertaken meets legislative and regulatory compliance, including Trade Practices Act 1974, various state and territory fundraising legislation and others as appropriate. Ensure all work produced is in accordance with Médecins Sans Frontières Australia Style Guidelines. Ensure compliance with Médecins Sans Frontières Australia financial accountability processes. Any other relevant compliance regimes including WH&S Travel It is likely that this position will be required to undertake interstate travel This position will not be required to undertake international travel. Other Contribute positively to team cohesion. Represent Médecins Sans Frontières Australia in external fora as appropriate. Undertake other fundraising related activities as may be required by the Major Gifts Manager or the Head of Fundraising. Maintain a knowledge and understanding of the external major gifts environment. Selection Criteria You must address the selection criteria in your application. Essential Criteria Previous experience working with major giving fundraising/relationship based program. Excellent effective interpersonal skills and the ability to comfortably engage in conversation with high value donors. Experience working with donor databases and managing donor appeals Experience in event management Ability to manage a diverse range of stakeholder relations. Experience in project managing budgets. Excellent communication skills including, writing and editing skills Creative thinking and solution focussed problem solving ability
