Grove Hill Calendar of Events January Art classes for all ages and all levels of creativity will be offered all year long. Classes will include Jewelry Making, Pine Needle Basket Making, Beginning Art, Independent Art Classes, Pottery, Children s Art Classes and more. February Grove Hill Dixie Youth Baseball and Softball registration will be held Friday February 6 at Town Hall from 5 8 p.m. and also on Saturday, February 7 at Town Hall from 10 a.m. to 12 noon. February Story Time with Miss "Bumpy" for second and third graders will be held at Grove Hill Public Library Wednesday, Feb. 18 following dismissal of school at approximately 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served. February Child Advocacy Center Dinner and Auction The Regional Child Advocacy Center located in Grove Hill will be hosting their annual Honor Thy Children dinner and auction fundraiser on February 21, 2015 at the H. W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House in Jackson. The event will begin at 5:30 p.m. with a silent auction, dinner at 6:30 p.m., and a live auction at 7:30 p.m. All proceeds benefit the non-profit agency. Admission is $35.00. March March 14, 2015 Alpha Women's Resource Center Walk 4 Life Make plans to be a part of the annual Alpha Women's Resource Center's Walk 4 Life on Saturday, March 14, 2015. Registration starts at 8:30 and the walk will begin at 9 a.m. Walk sites this year are: Thomasville Baptist Church, First Baptist Jackson, and First Baptist Leroy. Walk forms are available at the Alpha Center and local chambers of commerce. March Story Time with Miss "Bumpy" for second and third graders will be held at Grove Hill Public Library Wednesday, March 18 following dismissal of school at approximately 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served. March The six annual Voice for the Animals festival will be held March 21, 2015 in the Town of Fulton. There also be a 5K Run and One Mile Pet Trot. Race begins at 8:30 a.m. in downtown Fulton. There will be lots of activities and awards for pet dogs. Call the Town of Fulton for additional information 334-636-9527. Proceeds will benefit the needy animals of the community. Date TBA During the spring, all 3 rd graders in Clarke County will visit Grove Hill Cultural Arts Center to explore the world of art. Dixie Youth Baseball/Softball Day - 11, 2015 This day officially kicks off the baseball and softball season at S. P. Hudson Park and Recreation Center. It also celebrates all the facilities that are available for use at the park. A fun day of food, games, ball, speeches, and good fellowship with the citizens of Grove Hill and the surrounding area are enjoyed by all. The day begins at 10 a.m. at the park with an opening ceremony followed by ball games for the entire day. Plenty of food is available at the concession stand.

Story Time with Miss "Bumpy" for second and third graders will be held at Grove Hill Public Library Wednesday, 15 following dismissal of school at approximately 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served. The 15 th Annual Spring Jubilee will be held Saturday, 11 th, at 50l Forest Avenue, in Jackson. This is a community event with the following venues: BBQ Cook-Off, 5K Run/1 mile fun walk, motorcycle charity ride, Monster Mud trucks, Muscle Cars, Talent Show, Dog Costume Contest, Entertainment, silent auction, greenhouse plants for sale, children s activities, arts and crafts, and lots more. National Library Week 12 18, 2015 The 2015 theme for National Library Week is Unlimited Possibilities @ your Library. National Library Week was first observed in 1958. The Grove Hill Public Library will host several activities commemorating this week and highlighting all the opportunities at the library. Grove Hill s annual Community Spring Clean Up Day - One weekend in the month of is set aside for citizens to volunteer and spruce up the town. Volunteers spread out over the town to pick up trash and unsightly debris on the streets. A garbage trailer is parked at town hall for anyone to bring trash and debris they collect from the streets or even their yards during the Annual Spring Clean Up. Trash bags, car litter bags, and refreshments are provided by the Chamber of Commerce to all participants. The clean up is scheduled for 18, 2015. Contact the chamber for trash bags and additional information at 275-4188 or 251-769-5645. This event is in conjunction with Alabama PALS statewide clean up event which is scheduled for 18 25th. It is sponsored by Alabama PALS, Clarke County Citizens Against Litter, the Grove Hill Area Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Grove Hill.

Grove Hill Arts Council Photography Competition and Exhibit The Grove Hill Arts Council is sponsoring a Photography contest on 25, 2015. Photography in Your Backyard them is to promote an interest in art through photography. Various categories and ages for photography entrees will be offered. Photography entrees must be brought to the public libraries in Grove Hill, Jackson, Thomasville, or to the Grove Hill Cultural Arts Center during regular business hours by March 30, 2015. The Clarke County Old Timers will be holding their annual reunion on Saturday, 25, 2015 at Clarke County High School beginning at 10 a.m. All past graduates of the high school are invited back to the school cafeteria for a time of reuniting with each other. Participants bring their favorite food for a pot luck lunch. A morning and afternoon of fun, food, fellowship, and entertainment is enjoyed by all. Distinguished Young Women Competition The county-wide competition for the title of Clarke County Distinguished Young Woman will be held 25, 2015. Eleventh grade high school contestants from all over the county compete for the prestigious title and opportunity to travel to Montgomery to represent Clarke County in the state pageant. The annual event will be held at Thomasville Civic Center. Contact Carmen Rotch at 251.275.6677 for more information. Grove Hill s annual Run the Hill 5K Race will be held Saturday, 25, 2015. Hosted by the Grove Hill Arts Council, the event will include a 5-K run, and a two mile fun run/walk. Registration can be made in advance and also the day of event. The race will begin at 7:30 a.m. at Grove Hill Arts Center. T-shirts and refreshments will be offered to all participants. Dates for the event are 30 and May 1, 2015 beginning at 7:00 a.m. May Story Time with Miss "Bumpy" for second and third graders will be held at Grove Hill Public Library Wednesday, May 20 following dismissal of school at approximately 3 p.m. Refreshments will be served. May American Cancer Relay for Life - May 1, 2015 This national event will be held 2014 on Main Street and the Court House Square. The event will begin at 6 p.m. with the introduction of teams and the Walk will officially begin with the Survivors walking the first lap. Teams are formed to walk for donations for the American Cancer Society for cancer research. Each walking team sets up their own campsite complete with food, blankets, and good fellowship. June thru July Children s Summer Art Classes The Grove Hill Arts Council will sponsor summer children s art workshops during the summer months. Participants will be instructed in clay modeling, graphite sketching, pastels, and fabric painting. Registration is required along with a participation fee.

August Alabama s annual sales tax exempt weekend will be observed August 7-9, 2015. On these three days, certain purchases will be tax free. The event is intended to assist with the back to school expenses for children. Certain items are tax exempt including clothing, shoes, school supplies, and some electronics including computers and printers. Clarke County and the Town of Grove Hill will also waive their taxes this weekend. For more information, contact the Chamber of Commerce at 251.275.4188. August Alabama Restaurant Week Alabama Tourism is promoting the week of August 14 23, 2015 as Alabama Restaurant Week. During this time, local restaurants will offer special buys on various menu foods along with fun activities. Special place mats and activities will be available for children as well as adults. Grove Hillians are urged to visit their favorite eating establishment during this week and enjoy the food and hospitality. For more info contact the Chamber of Commerce at 251.275.4188. September Litter Awareness Week The Clarke County Citizens Against Litter Committee will host their annual Litter Awareness Week in September. During this designated week in September, the committee educates citizens about the evils of littering and a countywide clean up day is held. Trash bags, car litter bags, coloring books, and book marks are given out to educate citizens. Also, local restaurants will have available special anti-litter placemats for children. This year s litter education week is September 20 26, 2015. October Golf Tournament Date TBA Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Auxiliary s annual golf tournament is held each year to raise money for projects at the hospital. This tournament is a major fund raiser for the Auxiliary and draws many participants from all over the southwestern part of the state. Cash prizes are awarded to the winners. October Grove Hill s annual Run for the Arts 5K Race will be held Saturday, October 10, 2015. Hosted by the Grove Hill Cultural Arts, the event will include a 5-K run, and a two mile fun run/walk. Registration can be made in advance and also the day of event. The race will begin at 7:30 a.m. at the Arts Center in downtown Grove Hill. T-shirts and refreshments will be offered to all participants. Call the Arts Center for more information and registration forms 251.275.4278. October Pioneer Day An event that has become an annual attraction is the Pioneer Day festival at the Clarke County Historical Museum. The building and grounds become a living history exhibit for visitors interested in how syrup was made from sorghum or ribbon cane, the way a pioneer wife the 1800 s washed the family s clothes, how cotton was cleaned, combed, spun and eventually made into cloth, candle making, lye soap making, corn husk doll making, pottery, blacksmithing, quilting, and many other pioneer activities. A special part of the day is the presentations made by Indian Blue Heron. Children can even play games that were played in the 1800 s. An authentic 1800 s encampment is set up with re-enactors cooking pies, biscuits, ham, and more over an open fire. At noon everyone is invited to learn to dance the Virginia Reel. This year a pie eating contest for children and adults will be held celebrating Alabama Tourism s Year of Alabama Food. Pioneer Day will be held October 31, 2015 and admission to the event is free. November The Grove Hill Memorial Hospital Auxiliary will hold their bi-annual jewelry sale in the lobby of the hospital. All items including jewelry, scarves, hats, purses, and tote bags are $5.00 each and for sale for the two day event. All proceeds benefit the non-profit hospital Auxiliary. Dates of the event are November 2 and 3, 2015. Call 251.275.4188 for more information.

November Grove Hill Civitan s Citizen of the Year Banquet This banquet is held every first Thursday in November in Grove Hill honoring the newly selected Citizen of the Year. Organizations, schools, individuals, and businesses submit nominations for this prestigious honor and a recipient is selected based on their contribution to the town and surrounding area. They are recognized at the dinner with speeches, testimonies and awards. Tickets can be purchased from any Civitan member. The event for this year will be held November 5, 2015. For more information, contact Laura Hixon at 251-275-4908. November Grove Hill s annual Community Thanksgiving Ceremony is held the Sunday night before Thanksgiving (11-22-15). All churches are invited to participate in the program which includes religious singing and fellowship. The event is held at various locations every year. For more information, please call 275-4188. November Christmas Open House is held the Sunday after Thanksgiving in Grove Hill. Businesses in Grove Hill open their doors after church and welcome shoppers and visitors. Refreshments and door prizes are offered at the businesses along with special holiday sales. Open House will be November 29, 2015. December Christmas Parade Grove Hill s annual Christmas Parade and activities are held on the first Thursday in December. The parade begins at 4 p.m. and travels down the middle of town on Jackson Street. Santa meets with children after the parade at the Grove Hill Senior Center for photos and candy. Children can also decorate Christmas cookies, send cards to soldiers, make Christmas ornaments, and more. The date will be December 3, 2015. Call the chamber for info: 251-769-5645 or 25.275.4188.

December Annual Tree Lighting A very special and solemn event is held at the Grove Hill Memorial Hospital in December. The Auxiliary sells lights to place on the Christmas tree in front of the hospital. Over 700 lights are sold each year either in honor or memory of someone. The second Tuesday in December is designated as the Annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at the hospital with entertainment, food and good fellowship. A reception is held after the program where the names of the honorees and memorials are displayed in the hospital lobby. The event will be held December 8, 2015. Memorials and honorees will be taken during the month of October and November. Watch for advertising in the Clarke County Democrat or call 251.275.3191.
