Longnecker Competition Pool is one of the nation s top small-college aquatic facilities. The 8-lane facility is regarded as one of the fastest pools in the region and is reserved solely for use by the College s swimming and water polo athletes. The shallow end of the Pool is seven feet; thus the Pool is able to host several Collegiate Water Polo Association events that are restricted from shallow-deep pools. Since 2000, Grove City College has hosted several CWPA championship events. Last year, the CWPA held the Division III Championships at Grove City. In 2008, Grove City hosted the CWPA Western Division Championships. Grove City also hosts the Presidents Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships each year. The James E. Longnecker Competition Pool is 25 yards in length and 56 feet wide. The seating capacity of the Pool area is approximately 400. 2

WOMEN S WATER POLO 2014 HEAD COACH RACHEL GRIEPSMA Rachel Griepsma is in her second season as Grove City s head women s water polo coach. In her first season, she guided the Wolverines to a 12-9 overall record and an 11-1 mark in Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III conference play. She earned the conference s Coach of the Year award at the season-ending conference tournament in 2013. The College hired her in August 2012 as head women's water polo coach and assistant swimming and diving coach. Griepsma is the fourth head coach in program history, following Keith Bullion (2000-02), Dave Fritz (2002-09) and Jon Miller (2010-12). She joined the College s Department of Physical Education and Athletics after spending the 2012 season as a graduate assistant coach at her alma mater, Mercyhurst University. Griepsma started from 2008 to 2011 for Mercyhurst s women s water polo team and compiled one of the finest careers in program history. She graduated as Mercyhurst s all-time leading scorer with 246 goals, including an 80-goal season in 2008. She earned Collegiate Water Polo Association Western Division First Team honors in all four of her seasons and twice earned Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches First Team All-America status. A native of Lindsay, Ontario, Griepsma also spent three seasons as the starting goalkeeper for Mercyhurst s women s soccer team. She compiled 22 wins and 16 shutouts in her career. In two seasons as an assistant swimming and diving coach at the College, she has helped Grove City to three total Presidents Athletic Conference titles. The women s program has won the PAC title in each of her first two seasons and the men s team won the 2014 conference crown. Griepsma earned a bachelor of science degree in sports medicine in 2011 at Mercyhurst. In summer 2012, she completed her master s degree in exercise science at Mercyhurst. GROVE CITY COLLEGE 2014 SEASON PREVIEW Grove City Looking To Return To Top Of CWPA Division III With five returning veterans back for the 2014 season, the Grove City College women s water polo team will look to reclaim its spot at the top of the CWPA s Division III conference this spring. Grove City went 12-9 overall last year and won the league s regular season title before falling in the conference tournament championship match at Connecticut College. Grove City had won the tournament in each of the three previous seasons. Second-year head coach Rachel Griepsma will have just one senior on the 2014 roster, Lauren Burrows. But despite this relative lack of youth, the Wolverines still feature plenty of experience. Burrows, junior Jocelyn Hinkle and sophomores Ashley Henderson and Ashley Parks all return as starters for Grove City. Burrows posted 14 goals and 12 assists last year, her first season at Grove City. SEASON PREVIEW Rachel Griepsma is in her second season as Grove City head coach. In 2014, she will rely on five returning letterwinners. Sophomore Ashley Parks is a returning starter for Grove City. She recorded 33 goals during the 2013 season as a rookie. Hinkle, meanwhile, ranked second on the team with 49 goals and 27 assists. Her 76 total points led Grove City in 2013. She will entering her third season as a starter. Henderson and Parks both made an immediate impact as rookies in 2013. Henderson chalked up 13 goals and 19 assists in her freshman year while Parks pumped in 33 goals and assisted on 23 scores. Both are expected to be key contributors again this year. Sophomore Kira Okray emerged as one of the Wolverines top reserves in 2013 and will look to earn a full-time starting post this year. She appeared in 18 of Grove City s 21 matches last year. Several newcomers will also bolster Grove City this season. Freshman Mary Frank is expected to take over in goal for four-year starter Amanda Johnston while first-year performers Molly Gallant, Abby Jank, Grace Klimek and Megan Rowley are all expected to contribute in the field. 4

GROVE CITY COLLEGE ABOUT GROVE CITY COLLEGE The beautifully landscaped campus of Grove City College stretches over 150 acres and includes 28 neo- Gothic buildings. It is considered one of the loveliest in the nation. While the College has changed to meet the needs of the society it serves, its basic philosophy has remained unchanged since its founding in 1876. It is a Christian, liberal arts institution, dedicated to the principle of providing the highest quality education at the lowest possible cost. Wishing to remain truly independent and to retain its distinctive qualities as a private school governed by private citizens (trustees), it is one of few colleges in the country that does not accept federal funds. Affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), but not narrowly denominational, the College believes that to be well-educated a student should be exposed to the central ideas of the Judeo-Christian tradition. Grove City College offers undergraduate degrees in liberal arts, sciences, engineering, business, and music and is distinguished as a national leader in education. Grove City s programs in electrical and mechanical engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission Board of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The big business school curriculum prepares students for today s global business reality. An extensive variety of internship opportunities are provided across the curriculum. Grove City College wants its students to be prepared in this age of mobile information technology. Each entering freshman receives a tablet computer which is his or hers to keep upon graduation with a four-year degree. This is part of the Information Technology Initiative, a total program integrating technology across the curriculum. ABOUT THE COLLEGE Grove City College s Breen Student Union The College believes that its student body has a unique mix of talents and abilities. Its Career Services program helps students identify those key assets during the first year and then builds a four-year strategy to help them pursue a satisfying career. Personal counseling, professional speakers, databases, alumni contacts, summer internships, corporate visits, employer presentations and more are incorporated into the career preparation experience. Grove City follows the semester calendar plan, in addition to offering two-week sessions in January and May. Most of the 2,500 students live in separate men s and women s dormitories. The rest are local commuters or married students. A full program of cultural, professional, athletic and social activities is offered, including 19 intercollegiate varsity athletic teams. Grove City, a town of 8,100 people, is located 60 miles north of Pittsburgh. It is located near Interstates 79 and 80 and has a municipal airport. WOMEN S WATER POLO 2014 ATHLETIC FACILITIES All 19 of Grove City College s intercollegiate varsity athletic teams utilize the College s superior facilities for competition, practices and off-season training and conditioning. Grove City s athletic facilities have undergone numerous renovations and improvements in recent years, with more upgrades scheduled in the immediate future. On lower campus, Robert E. Thorn Field is home to the College s football and track and field teams. The College installed CSTurf at Robert E. Thorn Field. CSTurf is a synthetic playing surface that features polyethylene LSR grass fibers and a rubber infill system. The College also installed lights and resurfaced the 8-lane track around the field. Grove City also reconfigured its setup for track meets during these renovations. In 2011, the College installed a new state-ofthe-art scoreboard and new bleachers on the visitors side at Thorn Field. These upgrades benefit the entire campus community as the complex is used by both the College s club sports teams and its intramural program, along with the varsity teams. The track is also available for use by recreational walkers and joggers. The complex also features 10 all-weather tennis courts next to the stadium.
