Longnecker Competition Pool is one of the nation s top small-college aquatic facilities. The 8-lane facility is regarded as one of the fastest pools in the region and is reserved solely for use by the College s swimming and water polo athletes. The shallow end of the Pool is seven feet; thus the Pool is able to host several Collegiate Water Polo Association events that are restricted from shallow-deep pools. Since 2000, Grove City College has hosted several CWPA championship events. In 2008, Grove City hosted the CWPA Western Division Championships. The James E. Longnecker Competition Pool is 25 yards in length and 56 feet wide. It holds 408,913 gallons of water. The seating capacity of the Pool area is approximately 400. 2

WOMEN S WATER POLO 2012 HEAD COACH JON MILLER Jon Miller is in his third season as Grove City College s head women s water polo coach. Miller joined the Grove City athletic department in August 2009 as head women s water polo coach and assistant swimming and diving coach. He came to Grove City after spending the 2008-09 academic year as assistant men s and women s water polo coach at California Baptist University. His first season at Grove City proved to be one of the most successful in program history as he directed the Wolverines to the inaugural Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III title. Grove City went 10-0 in conference play last year and then won the CWPA conference tournament. For his efforts, Miller received CWPA Division III Coach of the Year recognition. Grove City placed fourth at the season-ending Collegiate III Championships, marking the program s best-ever national finish. The Wolverines finished 17-14 overall, the best record in program history. Several players earned individual honors under Miller s guidance in 2010. Amanda Thompson earned CWPA Division III Most Valuable Player recognition and newcomer Amanda Johnston received CWPA Rookie of the Year honors. Johnston, Kate Stiebler and Thompson all received All-America recognition from the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches. In 2011, the Wolverines captured their second straight CWPA Division III crown while going 17-12 overall. Chelsea Johnson earned First Team Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches All-America honors and Lauren Baur earned CWPA Division III Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors. A native of Fresno, Calif., Miller is a 2008 graduate of California Baptist. He earned four letters as a goalkeeper for CBU s men s water polo team. During his playing career, Miller racked up a school-record 1,025 saves. As a junior in 2007, he set a single-game school record with 22 saves against Pepperdine. As a junior he led all of collegiate water polo (both NCAA and NAIA) in saves with a school-record 415 stops. He owns each of the three highest single-season save totals in CBU history. Miller helped California Baptist compile 86 victories during his four seasons. Miller earned a bachelor s degree in kinesiology from California Baptist. He completed a master of science degree in kinesiology. He also is an assistant professor of physical education and exercise science at Grove City. He recently completed his third season as assistant swimming and diving coach and has helped the men s and women s teams to four combined Presidents Athletic Conference championships. Miller lives in Grove City. Head coach Jon Miller enters his third season at Grove City. He has guided Grove City to two straight CWPA Division III titles. COACHING STAFF 3

GROVE CITY COLLEGE SEASON PREVIEW 2012 SEASON PREVIEW Grove City Looking For Third Straight CWPA Division III Crown With eight letterwinners back for the 2012 season, the Grove City College women s water polo team looks to continue its ascent into the nation s elite in Division III. Grove City enters the season in pursuit of its third consecutive Collegiate Water Polo Association Division III title and the Wolverines appear to be well-stocked for that run. The 2012 roster features five seniors, all of whom have played extensively throughout their careers at Grove City. Senior Chelsea Johnson returns for her fourth season after earning Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches First Team All-America recognition in 2011. A three-year letterwinner, Johnson set a new singleseason scoring record at Grove City last year with 90 goals and enters the season as the program s all-time scoring leader with 211 goals. Johnson is a returning First Team All-CWPA selection. Three-year letterwinner Amy Fleming returns for her senior season after appearing in 28 matches last season. She scored a dozen goals last season and has also played in goal during her career. Senior Chelsea Johnson returns for her senior season after earning ACWPC All-America honors in 2011. She also earned First Team All-CWPA recognition. Junior Amanda Johnston is a two-year starter in goal for Grove City. She earned Second Team All-CWPA and Honorable Mention All-America in 2011. Senior Andrea Wilson moved into the starting lineup in 2011 and emerged as one of the Wolverines top defensive stalwarts. She recorded 72 steals last year and will be counted on at both ends of the pool again this year after earning All-CWPA distinction in 2011. Seniors Amanda Brush and Amy Fallas will both look to earn full-time starting spots this season. Brush has lettered each of the last two seasons while Fallas earned her first letter as a junior. Junior Amanda Johnston will anchor the Wolverine defense in goal once again. She is a two-year starter who earned CWPA Rookie of the Year honors in 2010. Grove City also returns a pair of sophomore letterwinners in Kristi Baur and Abby Wells. Baur played extensively as a freshman, recording 28 goals and 61 steals. Wells saw time as a reserve in 2011 and will challenge for a starting spot this year. Third-year head coach Jon Miller will also look to freshmen Jocelyn Hinkle and Lauren Hulsebus this season to make immediate contributions. 4

GROVE CITY COLLEGE ABOUT GROVE CITY COLLEGE The beautifully landscaped campus of Grove City College stretches over 150 acres and includes 27 neo- Gothic buildings. It is considered one of the loveliest in the nation. While the College has changed to meet the needs of the society it serves, its basic philosophy has remained unchanged since its founding in 1876. It is a Christian, liberal arts institution, dedicated to the principle of providing the highest quality education at the lowest possible cost. Wishing to remain truly independent and to retain its distinctive qualities as a private school governed by private citizens (trustees), it is one of few colleges in the country that does not accept federal funds. Affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), but not narrowly denominational, the College believes that to be well-educated a student should be exposed to the central ideas of the Judeo-Christian tradition. Grove City College offers undergraduate degrees in liberal arts, sciences, engineering, business, and music and is distinguished as a national leader in education. Grove City s programs in electrical and mechanical engineering are accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission Board of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology. The big business school curriculum prepares students for today s global business reality. An extensive variety of internship opportunities are provided across the curriculum. Grove City College wants its students to be prepared in this age of mobile information technology. Each entering freshman receives a tablet computer which is his or hers to keep upon graduation with a four-year degree. WOMEN S WATER POLO 2012 ATHLETIC FACILITIES All 19 of Grove City College s intercollegiate varsity athletic teams utilize the College s superior facilities for competition, practices and off-season training and conditioning. Grove City s athletic facilities have undergone numerous renovations and improvements in recent years, with more upgrades scheduled in the immediate future. On lower campus, Robert E. Thorn Field is home to the College s football and track and field teams. The College installed CSTurf at Robert E. Thorn Field. CSTurf is a synthetic playing surface that features polyethylene LSR grass fibers and a rubber infill system. The College also installed lights and resurfaced the 8-lane track around the field. Grove City also reconfigured its setup for track meets during these renovations. In 2011, the College installed a new state-ofthe-art scoreboard and new bleachers on the visitors side at Thorn Field. These upgrades benefit the entire campus community as the complex is used by both the College s club sports teams and its intramural program, along with the varsity teams. The track is also available for use by recreational walkers and joggers. The complex also features 10 all-weather tennis courts next to the stadium. Phillips Field House, located at the north end of the complex, features several locker rooms, an athletic training room, meeting rooms and coaches offices. It is used by the football, track and tennis programs throughout the academic year. The Physical Learning Center (PLC) houses the Grove City College Arena, home to the College s basketball and volleyball programs. The 1,800-seat Arena recently received new scoreboards, new scorer s tables and new shotclocks. The James E. Longnecker Pool is one of the nation s premier small-college venues for both swimming and diving and water polo. The home of Grove City s football and track and field teams, Robert E. Thorn Field has received numerous renovations in recent years. In addition, the PLC features the James E. Longnecker Pool, one of the premier aquatic facilities in the region. Each year, Grove City hosts the Presidents Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships at the state-of-the-art facility. In 2008, the College also hosted the Collegiate Water Polo Association Western Division Championships at the College Pool. The PLC also features a second pool, the Recreational Pool, which is used by members of the College community year-round. A fitness room featuring aerobic and Cybex equipment and a separate weight room with free and mechanized weights are also keystone areas of the facility. The PLC also features six racquetball/handball courts as well as two adjacent intramural rooms. The intramural rooms each feature four basketball courts, four indoor tennis courts, four volleyball courts, an indoor track and two indoor jumping pits. The College installed new synthetic flooring and several new electronic scoreboards throughout the intramural rooms. The Physical Learning Center houses the athletic training room, locker rooms and offices for coaches and physical education faculty.
