Page 2 of 7 e-mail: mmerrill@capsbc.sbcounty.gov website: www.capsbc.org www.facebook.com/capsbc http://capsbc.blogspot.com San Bernardino, CA, November 8, 2011 - Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County (CAPSBC) held the "Community Partners in Action to Make A Difference!" service and resource fair on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at San Bernardino Valley College. The event was sponsored by Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County and San Bernardino Valley College, Catholic Charities, Housing Authority of the County of San Bernardino, Time for Change Foundation, Community Assistance Program (City of Fontana - Water of Life Community Church), Young Visionaries, IEHP, Lift Up America, and Ecclesia Christian Fellowship. Over 2,000 people attended the fair and were given many great free goods and services. Free clothing was distributed, free flu shots were administered, people were signed up for SNAP (food stamps) and HEAP (home energy assistance program), free dental and health screening took place, lots of resource information was available for housing, legal services, employment, financial literacy and asset development, education and children's services. Fair attendees were given a free lunch from Catholic Charities of Riverside and San Bernardino Counties. They were also entertained by area dance groups. Children played in the hay maze, got their faces painted and received a free pumpkin to color. There were 60 exhibitors and nearly everyone left with something in hand after being helped by the various non-profits, businesses and social services agencies at the event. The Community Action Partnership of San Bernardino County Food Bank gave out 1,200 bags of free food plus hygiene items and Helping Hands Pantry gave out an additional 500 bags of free food. An army of 500 volunteers came together to help make the event happen. It was an opportunity for people of all ages to do something positive. "We are pleased that we were able to help so many in our community as the need is so great in these difficult economic times - this is what Community Action is about," stated Patricia Nickols, CEO of CAPSBC. "We are very grateful to our community partners for coming together to make this a successful event for our area families, seniors, children, veterans and the unemployed." CAPSBC is a non-profit 501(c)3. As one of the largest non-profit human services agencies in San Bernardino County, CAPSBC provides resources and opportunities to low-income individuals and families to become stable and self-reliant.
