HOW THE SEARCH FOR THE NEXT TECH GIRL SUPERHERO WORKS The Search for the Next Tech Girl Superhero is a a youth entrepreneurship program designed to be run online, reaching girls across Australia. The program is based on the US Technovation pre-designed 12-week curriculum and has been adapted for the Australian audience. The competition outline is described below but please note that the program can be customised for in-classroom use and the timings adjusted accordingly. The Tech Girls Movement is an official Regional Ambassador for Technovation in Australia and offers young Australians the opportunity to design and build an App. Technovation is the world s largest and longest running tech competition for girls. In Technovation, teams of young women identify a problem, create an app to solve it, code the app, build a company to launch the app in the market, and pitch their plan to experts. Technovation s applied, project based computer science and entrepreneurship curriculum reinforces digital representation of information, algorithmic thinking and programming, and emphasises the societal impact of information and information technology. It teaches girls life skills such as how to identify problems, design and test solutions, collaborate in a team and communicate to different audiences. Teams of 3-5 girls from 8-17yo register for the Next Tech Girl Superhero via the website. Each team nominates a teacher or parent as their coach to support and act as a role model for the team. All teams are matched with a mentor who connect virtually one hour per week via Skype or G+ hangout. One mentor last year worked at Facebook in Singapore and skyped her team in Sydney.
