Erasmus Mundus: beneficiaries higher education institutions that wish to implement joint programmes at postgraduate level (Action 1) or to set-up interinstitutional cooperation partnerships between universities from Europe and targeted Third-Countries (Action 2); individual students, researchers and university staff who wish to spend a study / research / teaching period in the context of one of the above mentioned joint programmes or cooperation partnerships; any organisation active in the field of higher education that wishes to develop projects aiming at enhancing the attractiveness, profile, visibility and image of European higher education worldwide (Action 3). Erasmus Mundus: Action 1 Joint Programmes Partnership higher education institutions from a minimum of 3 different European countries (eligible applicant HEI must have Erasmus University Charter, they include therefore: EU Member states, Turkey, Western Balkans, EEA_EFTA, Switzerland). At least 1 must be an EU member State; higher education institutions or other relevant partners, such as research centres, from third countries; Associated members can contribute to the promotion, implementation, evaluation and sustainable development of the courses Pagina 5
Erasmus Mundus: Action 1 Joint Programmes Study Programme a study programme which involves a period of study in at least two of the participating EU higher education institutions; encourage placements as part of the study programme; recognition of periods of study undertaken in partner institutions. For master courses recognition is based on, or compatible with, the ECTS system; awarding of joint and/or double or multiple degrees use of at least two European languages spoken in the Member States where the higher education institutions involved in the Erasmus Mundus master programme are situated and, as appropriate, offer preparatory language training and assistance for students transparent joint conditions for admissions which pay due regard, inter alia, to gender and equity issues and which facilitate access in accordance with the principles of equal opportunities and nondiscrimination Pagina 6
Erasmus Mundus: Action 1 Joint Programmes Tuition fees Partners are free to decide whether or not to establish tuition fees, in accordance with their national law and the agreement concluded among them Services for students arrangements to facilitate access and hosting of European and third-country students (information facilities, accommodation, assistance with visas, etc.). Quality assessment self-evaluation procedures and peer review by external experts (from European or third countries) in order to ensure the continuing high quality of the programme Duration selected for a five-year period, subject to an annual renewal procedure based on progress reporting. The Erasmus Mundus masters programmes selected under the Erasmus Mundus programme for 2004-2008 shall continue within the framework of Action 1 until the end of the period for which they have been selected, subject to an annual renewal procedure based on progress reporting Pagina 7
Erasmus Mundus: Action 1 Scholarships/Fellowships CATEGORY A can be awarded to candidates selected by EMMD or EMJD consortia, who come from a country other than an eligible applicant country and who are not residents nor have carried out their main activity (studies, work, etc.) for more than a total of 12 months over the last five years in one of these countries. The only exception to this rule applies to Third-Country doctoral candidates who have previously received an Erasmus Mundus masters scholarship in order to follow an EMMC. CATEGORY B can be awarded to any candidate selected by EMMD / EMJD consortia and who do not fulfil the Category A criteria defined above EMMD scholarships: CATEGORY A 24.000 per year EMMD scholarships: CATEGORY B 10.000 per year to 23.000 per 2 years with mobility to third country EMJD fellowships: 61.200-129.000 per 36 months (including: travel, installation, fees, contribution to participation costs, living allowance) Pagina 8
Erasmus Mundus: Action 1 Scholars Scholarships for scholars enrolled in Third-Country institutions who will be selected by the EMMC consortium to contribute to the joint programme; if the consortium includes Third-Country partners, scholarships for scholars enrolled in EU institutions for the purpose of contributing to the joint programme within this Third-Country partner EMMC scholars must demonstrate outstanding academic and/or professional experience and bring concrete added value to the delivery of the EMMC. 2.400 for 2 weeks 14.800 for three-month stay Pagina 9
Erasmus Mundus Action 2: Partnerships (EMECW) EMECW programme is a cooperation and mobility scheme in the area of higher education. The European Commission launched this initiative to foster cooperation between higher education institutions from outside the EU with EU universities. Builds further on previous programmes: Erasmus, Tempus, EM, Alfa, Alban, Asia-Link, Edulink It aims to boost exchange of students, researchers and academic staff and to support mobility and recognition of studies. Erasmus Mundus Action 2: : The beneficiaries The EC defined 3 Target Groups: Target group 1: individuals registered at a partner university Target group 2: nationals from the 3rd countries registered in another university (no partner in the consortium) or having obtained a higher education degree from any university in the 3rd countries Target group 3: nationals from the 3rd countries who are in a particularly vulnerable situation (refugees, asylum beneficiaries, internally displaced population,...) Erasmus Mundus Action 2: Eligibility of European students must have the nationality of one of the eligible European countries; must have sufficient knowledge of the language of the courses or of one of the languages currently spoken in the hosting countries; must be registered at one of the European partner institutions; undergraduate students must have successfully completed at least one year of studies of higher education level; for post-doctorate mobility: must have obtained their doctorate in the last two years and must have the approval of one of the European partner universities to carry out a post-doctorate mobility. This can be for research, training and attending highly specialised courses. Pagina 14
Erasmus Mundus Action 2: Eligibility of 3rd country students must have the nationality of the participating countries and have sufficient knowledge of the language of instruction; for TG 1: students need to be registered at a partner university in a 3rd country. Undergraduate students must have successfully completed at least one year of studies in their home institutions; for TG 2: candidates need to be registered at another university in the participating countries or need to have a diploma from a university of the countries mentioned above. for TG 3: candidates need to be part of a vulnerable group Pagina 15
