Section Summary A-1 Executive Summary The IEEE Kansai Section was established in November 1998. The number of members of the Kansai Section as of December 31 was 1788, (See Item B-1). This number increased by 87 compared to December 31, 2001. In 2002 the Section had seven executive meetings, one annual section meeting, three technical lectures. In 2003 the Section has already had one executive meetings, one annual section meeting. See the attached Table 1in the ANNEX. Part B. Organization Activities in 2002 B-1 Membership Development Committee The Chair of the Membership Development Committee is now appointing his committee members and will promote them to recruit new members. Announcement of merit of IEEE membership. 2. Increase of Senior member in Kansai Section. (Statistics say that Senior members have higher probability of maintaining their membership.) 3. Committee members of MDC try to increase membership in their organizations. B-2 Student Activities Committee We now have three Student Branches.

B-3 Nominations Committee Nominations Committee asked Fellow members in Kansai Section to recommend fellow up-grade candidates. Nine members have been endorsed from Kansai Section. We ended up with four new Fellow members in Kansai Section. B-4 Awards Committee Awards Committee established the Kansai GOLD Award in 2001. This award is for student or younger members who has contributed to IEEE Kansai Section s activities. The 2002 Kansai GOLD Award was awarded to Mr. Gaute Lambertsen (Ritsumeikan University). B-5 Professional Activities Lectures: 1. We have three chapters. Each chapter was very active. EDS Kansai Chapter had fiur technical meetings and SSCS Kansai Chapter had two technical meetings. Part C. Goals and Action Plans in 2003 C-1. Executive Meeting We will have five executive meetings this year. C-2 Nominations Committee NC will also nominate fellow up-grade candidates. C-3 Membership Development Committee MDC members will try to increase membership in their organizations. C-4 Student Activities Committee SAC will open 2 new student branches in Kansai Section. SAC is also planning several technical and social events for students in Kansai Section. C-5 Technical Program Committee TPC will have some Technical Lectures.

C-6 Awards Committee AC undertakes the selection process for the IEEE Kansai Section GOLD Award. AC will also start studying the feasibility of another new awards within Kansai Section. C-7 Chapter Each Chapters will have some events including some technical lectures and workshops.
