Dear Prospective Debutante, Thank you for your interest in The Columbus (OH) Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. s 2013-2014 Jabberwock Scholarship Program and Cotillion. Jabberwock debutantes are young ladies who exemplify poise, leadership, scholarship and respect within their schools and community. If you are invited to participate, you will have the opportunity to engage in various social, educational and community service activities that encourage future success. At the end of the Jabberwock season, we will celebrate with a grand ball for your family and friends. Being a debutante requires time, hard work, and dedication, but will reap great rewards- including the opportunity to receive college scholarships and a variety of program incentives. Therefore, significant contributions are expected from each young lady. Before applying, please consider the following minimum requirements. A prospective debutante must: be classified as a high school senior by the Fall of 2013 possess and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 (C+) or better on a four point scale exhibit high moral and ethical standards pay a $500 program fee by June 15, 2013 ($50 of fee will be for application) raise a minimum of $1000 through individual fundraising efforts throughout the course of the program. These include, but are not limited to, recruiting sponsors for the souvenir booklet. sell a minimum of 2 tables for the Cotillion attend monthly program events, workshops, and cotillion rehearsals select a reliable young male escort (ages 16-19) and an adult male escort (father or father-figure) for the cotillion. Once the application packets are reviewed and it has been verified that the minimum requirements have been met, you will be invited to meet with the Jabberwock committee for a candidate assessment interview on May 18, 2013. Incomplete packets will not be reviewed. Following the completion of all interviews, applicants will be notified of their acceptance into the program. Young ladies that accept our invitation to participate are required to attend a mandatory orientation meeting on June 15, 2013. The first program fee installment of $200 is due on or before that time. Meeting details will be included in the program acceptance letter. APPLICATION CHECKLIST Ensure the application is complete by verifying that each item on the list below is included. Submit all elements of the application in the same envelope. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Application Fee- $50.00 (payments in the form of cash or money order made out to CAC-DST) Completed Application 250- word Essay Official Transcript 2 Letters of Recommendation FINAL DEADLINE April 26, 2013. Only complete applications will be reviewed. (NOTE: Qualified recommenders include teachers, community leaders, employers, and mentors. Relatives and members of the Jabberwock Scholarship Committee are not acceptable.)
Eligibility Requirements In order to participate in the Jabberwock, all participants (escorts included) MUST meet and maintain the following requirements throughout the entire Jabberwock season: Must be a resident of the Columbus, Ohio area Debutantes must be a high school senior for the 2013-2014 school year (Escorts may be between the ages of 16-19) Must have and maintain at least a cumulative 2.75 g.p.a. on a 4.0 scale (verified by official transcript) Demonstrate goals, aspirations, and plans to pursue an education beyond high school. Demonstrate interest and involvement in public service and community related activities. Show and maintain evidence of good moral character, which includes but is not limited to: o No record of poor discipline at school or in the community o No criminal, misdemeanor, or court record of any kind o Must maintain good moral character when using Social Media Networks (i.e. Facebook, MySpace, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) o No indication or public hint of pregnancy o Must not be a parent (If you are currently pregnant or become pregnant during the 2013-2014 Jabberwock program season you will become ineligible and not allowed to continue participating in the Jabberwock Scholarship Program activities and presentation) Must not have previous or current employment in places of entertainment including bars, clubs, etc Attend all related personal development functions and activities held throughout the program which includes workshops, rehearsals, retreats, and any other planned activities associated with the program. If you are unable to attend, you must contact a committee member to obtain an excused absence. (i.e. Mandatory school activity, illness, death) Each debutante will be allowed 2 excused absences. At the discretion of the committee, if you are not prepared for the event you will be asked not to participate in the culminating event) Submit all required forms by the deadlines stated. Must pay the required application and program fees, raise the minimum of $1000 in ad sales through individual fundraising efforts, and sell the minimum of 2 tables for the Cotillion Ball.
