Latin American & Hispanic Business Association Corporate Sponsorship Opportunities 2009-2010

Our Association The purpose of the LAHBA is to provide a forum to foster the growth of Latin and Hispanic MBA students and to increase awareness of the Latin and Hispanic cultures and issues. It is also LAHBA s mission to sponsor activities that introduce students to the possibilities of employment in both the United States and Latin America. The LAHBA membership comprises international students from Latin America and the Caribbean, as well as a Hispanic students from throughout the Unites States. We thrive to accomplish our mission through programs and events including mentoring initiatives, recruiting efforts, interview preparation, career planning, networking opportunities, ongoing communication with CBS s administration, and other social events. We aim to help students attain their career goals through our Mentoring Program, where we pair current students with alumni who are working professionals. As one of the largest and most active student organizations at Columbia Business School, we are actively engaged with the school s Admissions Office to recruit Hispanic and Latin American students. We work hard and close with our Corporate Sponsors and Partners to bring interview preparation and career planning events, and to facilitate networking and recruiting opportunities for our members. Our annual conference highlights trends and business opportunities in Latin American communities. Recent keynote speakers at our conference include: Cesar Gaviria, former President of Colombia; Eduardo Duhalde, former President of Argentina; Alejandro Toledo, and former President of Peru; among many other CEOs and CFOs from different companies and industries in the region. We form a tightly knit community of students, we are motivated and committed to Columbia Business School and to each other. We are highly achieved individuals who aim higher for our professional goals. 2

Careers LAHBA aims to provide its members with the tools necessary to identify and pursue their desired career path and company, as well as to excel throughout the recruiting season. Information Companies are invited to participate in several events at the beginning of the recruiting season. Our goal is to provide students with the necessary information to choose their target career paths at specific companies. Career Panels (September October 2009) Exclusive sponsorship level: $1,000 / Co-sponsorship level: $500 LAHBA s target is to organize four different career panels which would include: financial services, consulting, marketing and general management. These events historically have high student attendance. Companies will have a good opportunity to network with students. Event time: 1.5 hours. A day in the life Series (September October 2009) Exclusive sponsorship level: $1,000 Representatives from various companies are invited to each event, as this is a great way to network with students. Representatives sit on a panel and discuss unique aspects of their work and each of their firms. The events allow recruiters to network with LAHBA students and discuss particular aspects of each company that are relevant during the recruiting season. Event time: 1.5 hours. Fire Side Chats & Brown Bag Lunches (September November 2009) Exclusive sponsorship level: $500 Open-topic forum for students and companies to discuss any particular issue that they find relevant to the current recruiting environment. Examples of previously chosen topics include All you wanted to know about company x, Do s and Don ts of Recruiting, Trends in industry z, etc. Fire Side Chats usually start at 5:45pm, Brown Bag Lunches at 12:30 pm, and both last for 1.5 hours. 3

Careers To support its mission of increasing awareness of the Latin and Hispanic cultures and issues, specifically regarding business and economic issues, LAHBA wants to remain close to its members through a weekly/monthly electronic newsletter. Information e-newsletter The purpose of the e-newsletter is to communicate LAHBA news and future events to our members and alumni, as well as to provide them with an updated view on different and relevant business and economic topics. Sponsors would contribute to the newsletter with a summary or highlights of recent researches or other publications (such as industry trends or other studies) that would constitute the main feature of the newsletter. The LAHBA e-newsletter will reach the captive MBA audience of our members. Exclusive sponsorship level: $1,500 + content Full-page company profile in each issue Co-branding of e-newsletter Company listing and logo placement Two complimentary tickets to the XII LAHBA Annual Conference Co-sponsorship level: $500 + content 1/4 page company profile Company listing and logo One complimentary tickets to the XII LAHBA Annual Conference 4

Careers While students are choosing their target career paths and companies, LAHBA will organize events to help them further prepare for the recruiting process. Mentoring & Recuiting Student Mentoring Events (September 2009 and February 2010) Exclusive sponsorship level: $500 / Co-sponsorship level $250 Second year students speak to first year students regarding networking, on campus interviewing, and handling informal interviewing processes. Speakers talk about the companies for which they worked during the summer and share do s and don ts of recruiting. Recruiting companies are invited to sponsor their 2009 summer interns to become speakers and create positive word of mouth among LAHBA members. Two events will be held: in September for 1 st year students and in February for incoming J-Term students. Resume Workshops (October November 2009) Exclusive sponsorship level: $1,000 / Co-sponsorship level $500 Companies send representatives to give advice to students on resume writing. The target is to organize four different workshops including: financial services, consulting, marketing and general management. These events are an excellent opportunity to strengthen their relationship with the recruiting companies. Mock Interview Workshops (November 2009 February 2010) Exclusive sponsorship level: $1,000 / Co-sponsorship level $500 Companies send representatives to conduct individual mock interviews with LAHBA members. The target is to organize four different Mock Interview Series: financial services, consulting, marketing and general management. Mock interviews are very attractive to students and therefore are excellent opportunities to strengthen their interest about the recruiting companies. 5

Careers Parallel to informational and training modules, LAHBA will organize a series of career networking events aimed at further developing the relationships between LAHBA members and recruiters. Networking National Society of Hispanic MBAs (October 8-10, 2009) Sponsorship level: $250 LAHBA encourages Columbia Business School representation at the National Hispanic Business Association Conference. Over 8,000 students and 300 corporations and academic institutions are expected to attend. This year s conference will be in Minneapolis, Minnesota from October 8th to 10th. We estimate that over 30 LAHBA members will attend the NSHMBA conference. Sponsoring companies will have the opportunity to organize exclusive events with LAHBA members during the NSHMBA conference. NSHMBA information session to be held on campus to further promote CBS participation in the Conference. Company-Specific Networking Events (October 2009 February 2010) Exclusive sponsorship level: cost of catering Private networking events at firm s offices to take place after 7pm., providing an intimate atmosphere for recruiters to network with LAHBA members. Companies can engage further, focusing on specific divisions within a firm. 6

Alumni Network Alumni efforts are key in supporting current LAHBA members during the recruiting season, as well as in providing LAHBA alumni with opportunities to network among themselves and foster a strong and unified LAHBA Alumni community. Networking Events Alumni Networking Events (October 2009 and April 2010) Sponsorship level: $5,000 The LAHBA will host two Alumni Networking Events (October and April), in which LAHBA Alumni, students, and prospective or admitted students will have an opportunity to network in a closed and intimate off-campus environment. LAHBA holds a strong relationship with Columbia Business School s Hispanic Alumni Association (HAA). Therefore, the October event will be co-hosted by LAHBA and the HAA, and will target Hispanic and Latin American alumni and students. Sponsoring companies will be able to send representatives and speakers (especially CBS alumni), display their logo, and will be mentioned at the beginning and end of the event. LAHBA Farewell Dinner (May 2010) Sponsorship level: $2,500 Alumni continue to support LAHBA initiatives, but most important to note is their support to each other throughout their post-graduate careers. So, what better way to start off a LAHBA Alumni status than with a warm Farewell Dinner at an off-campus location. Columbia LAHBA alumni will always carry with them the memories of the good friends and companies that supported them through their MBA and helped them make the most out this wonderful experience. Sponsoring companies may bring representatives, ideally CBS alumni, to network with current Columbia Business School students and to provide a few words of advice on how to initiate a successful post-graduate professional life, and stay connected with the Columbia and LAHBA Alumni community. 7

Alumni Network Mentoring is a great opportunity for companies to interact with and to attract top students who are interested in each career path. LAHBA Alumni Mentorship Program This initiative pairs LAHBA members with Columbia Business School alumni who share careers and personal interests. Participants meet throughout the semester to discuss any questions about a particular career path, or company, resume and interview preparation, and other relevant topics. Companies are invited to participate by sponsoring our key events and encouraging employees to become mentors of current HBA students. Mentorship Program Kick-Off / Closing Meeting (Sept 2009 / May 2010) Exclusive sponsorship level: $1,000 / Co-sponsorship level: $500 Reception for mentors (LAHBA Alumni, company representatives) and LAHBA members. The main goal of the kickoff is to introduce the mentorship program to the participants and provide mentors and mentored students with an opportunity to network. The main goals of the closing meeting are to review the results of the mentorship program and provide mentors and mentees with an opportunity to network. 8

Social Networking Social interaction is very important for LAHBA as it contributes to building strong and long lasting relationships among its members, Columbia Business School, and with corporations and other external Social Events LAHBA Sponsored Happy Hour at Columbia Business School September 10, 2009 & February 2010 Exclusive sponsorship level: $5,500 Thursday Happy Hours at Columbia Business School are a time-honored tradition and one of the most looked forward events that takes place in the school every week. These regular weekly oncampus events are a great way to unwind over drinks with classmates, friends, faculty, administration, and recruiters after a tough week of classes, studying, and recruiting events. More than 500 MBA students attend each Thursday. Every Happy Hour is sponsored by a different organization at Columbia Business School and funded by one or more sponsors. Different merchandise and other sponsor s publicity can be distributed and displayed during the event. LAHBA will sponsor the first Happy Hour of the Fall semester on September 10, and we are targeting another date in February for the Spring semester. LAHBA Party September 24/25, 2009 Sponsorship level: $1,000 Latin culture is characterized by its energy-sparking people, festive spirit, and warm hospitality. The LAHBA party has become one of the most popular parties of the school year among Columbia Business School students. The party will take place at one of NYC s finest nightlife venues, providing a relaxed and hip atmosphere ideal for social interaction and bonding. This year LAHBA wants to share credits of one of its signature events with corporate sponsors as well as invite their employees to join the party! 9

Conference The LAHBA Annual Conference is traditionally one of the largest events at Columbia Business School. Students, teachers and alumni as well as professionals and executives attend the Conference each year. XII LAHBA Annual Conference - March 26, 2010 The LAHBA Annual Conference was our most important event last school year and we are committed to making this year s conference a big success! The conference is a great chance to bring together distinguished and influential speakers and create a space for debate.
