VOODOO NEWS American Legion Post #4 News Summer 2017 Published Quarterly Issue # 30 From Your Commander Tim Shosey I want to thank everyone for voting me in as your commander for my second year, I look forward to another great year working with all of you and the Executive Board to continue to improve Post 4. I want to thank everyone that attended the Memorial Day Ceremony by coming out to support our fallen comrades. It was a great turnout at the Post, Cemetery and Fire Station. The Navy Sea Cadets did the Post 4 Flag Retirement Ceremony on June 11 th and I would like to thank them for a great job as always. We had a great turnout that day. I would also like to thank all the volunteers that helped with the setup and hanging of all the flags that were being retired. The Post just finished a Charity Poker event in June and we were able to raise over two thousand dollars over the four days. I would like to thank the volunteers that were able to help at this event and also thank the S.A.L for volunteering and helping out as well. Great Job Everyone! We have several events coming up this quarter with the Annual Car Show on August 13th and the Annual Golf Outing on August 18th, I look forward to seeing everyone at these events. Have a great summer and I ll see you at the Post. News from the Post Adjutant/ Membership Chairperson I received the 2018 membership cards in June. In an effort to save you and the Legion postage fees, I will be at the Legion on Tuesdays in July (not July 4) from noon until 4:00 to take care of your membership needs. I am also asking all PUFL and Earned Life to pick up their cards at that time. You must have a 2018 membership card by January 1st, or your lounge privileges will be revoked. Don t let that happen, be an Early Bird. As always, you can drop or mail your dues to the Post. It would also be helpful for me, if you have a change in address, to please call me or mail the information to the Post. Another concern is keeping the records current of deceased members. We sometimes only know if a family member notifies us. Remember that the membership process is a three step procedure. If you pay your dues close to the dates listed below, you may still receive a renewal notice, please do not pay again. National is the last to receive notification that you are current. National sends out renewal notices: July 3, Oct 10, Nov.17, Jan.5, Feb. 28, and April 27. When I question whether I have paid something or not, I look through my checkbook as a reminder. If you have any membership questions, please, call me (not the lounge or just ask anyone you see). Please note that the 100th birthday of the American legion is coming fast 2019 the department of Michigan would like all post to be 100 % so lets do it for 2018 and 2019 Keep me busy, pay your dues. Please use your Lounge privileges and support the Post. Semper Fi, Adjutant Augie Miele 586 202-0646 From the Web Coordinator: Please keep sending your e-mail addresses. This has helped cut the cost of our snail mailing of the Voodoo News. The new website is up and available, please visit the site for all information and events happening at the Post. The Website Address is: www.americanlegionpost4mi.com If you have any suggestions for the new site, please e-mail us at: Info@americanlegionpost4mi.com Please Note that the Calendars in this News Letter are subject to change due to conflicts and scheduling changes. For the most up to date calendars, visit the website and view the event calendar page or call the post at 586-469-9271. 5

Sons of the American Legion 2018 Membership cards will be available in July please stop in the lounge and renew your dues. I would like to encourage all the SAL members of Squadron 4 to support the Post / Lounge and participate in the events of the American Legion and Squadron 4. Thank you, Squadron Commander: Steve LoCicero Squadron 4 Commander 586-419-3048 American Legion Riders The American Legion Riders are having membership drive and are looking for members who ride. If you or a family member that qualifies to be a Legionnaire or a Son of the legion, please contact the Post at (586) 469-9271 or attend the monthly meeting. Our meetings are held the third Monday of each month at 7:30pm. Thanks, Steve Gena Director 6
