VOODOO NEWS American Legion Post 4 News Spring 2017 Published Quarterly Issue # 29 From Your Commander Tim Shosey Spring has arrived and I hope everyone had a safe winter season weather you travelled south or stayed in Michigan. There are several upcoming events starting with the elections of officers on April 24th before the General Membership meeting from 12pm to. The Memorial Day Services will be on May 28 th, starting at the Post at 9:00am.with coffee and donuts. Post wreath services at 10:00am and then at Harry Ollrich s grave site at Clinton Grove Cemetery at 10:30am and 11:00 am. (all local military post) at the Veterans section in Clinton Grove. We then go over to the Mt. Clemens Fire Station for services at the Veterans Memorial area. On Sunday June 11 th at 1:00pm at post 4 will be our flag retirement ceremony. When a flag is in such bad condition that it is no longer a fitting emblem for display, it should be destroyed in a dignified way, preferably by burning. If you have never attended; it is worth seeing. The Naval Sea Cadets put on quite a fitting ceremony for the retirement of old flags. Over the past few months we did several Post improvements, we installed windows in the lounge and it made a huge improvement in that area. We also installed new draft beer taps and moved the kegs for a overall better draft beer taste. In the lower hall, we installed all new LED lighting in the ceiling bighting up that hall and making it look very good. I would like to thank everyone that was involved and helped with the work that was done.great Job! I would also like to introduce Doug Carignan as our new Post 4 service officer. Doug can be contacted at (586) 484-4354. News from the Post Adjutant/ Membership Chairperson A first nomination for 2017 2018 Post officers was held Feb. 20. Second nominations and acceptance was held March 27. The results are posted in the Lounge. Elections will be held at the Post, Monday, April 24, starting at noon until 7:00 P.M., prior to the regular monthly General Meeting. Any member in good standing, with a 2017 card, is eligible to vote. Please note that our dues have been increased to $50.00 for renewal and $55.00 for new memberships. I consider it a privilege to serve as your Post Adjutant, and I do it diligently. And yet, I receive not so nice letters because you are still receiving renewal notices when you have your new card. That new card means that you have been processed with Post #4 and are in the process of being recorded with Department and National. If you have your new card, ignore the notice. If you still have concerns, please call me, do not pay again. I also need you to report a deceased member. You can call me or the Post. I realize that it is hurtful to continue receiving mailings for a member that has died. To stop the mailings is also a long process. Your phone call is sometimes the only way we know. I will be receiving the 2018 membership cards in June. In an effort to save you and the Legion postage fees, I will be at the Legion on Tuesdays in July from noon until 4:00 to take care of your membership needs. I am also asking all PUFL and Earned Life to pick up their cards at that time. Be an Early Bird. Hope to see you at the Post. Semper Fi, Adjutant Augie Miele From the Web Coordinator: Please keep sending your e-mail addresses. This has helped cut the cost of our snail mailing of the Voodoo News. The new website is up and available, please visit the site for all information and events happening at the Post. The Website Address is: www.americanlegionpost4mi.com If you have any suggestions for the new site, please e-mail us at: Info@americanlegionpost4mi.com Please Note that the Calendars in this News Letter are subject to change due to conflicts and scheduling changes.
