Job Title: Based at: Energy Efficiency Adviser (Fixed term until June 2019) Main Offices, 147 Fintry Drive. Position reports to: Welfare Officer Grade: 23,964-26,233 This project is part funded through the European Social Fund and as such is 35 hrs per week fixed term until June 2019. Aims of providing energy efficiency advice Our aim is to enhance the quality of life in our communities. We aspire to reduce fuel poverty and social exclusion amongst our residents, by giving them the tools and support they need to tackle the problems they face and change their lives for the better. Job Purpose: The post holder will be responsible for providing energy advice to Abertay tenants to alleviate the impact of fuel poverty by assisting customers to maximise their income and reduce fuel costs. The energy service provides information, advice and advocacy on energy related issues in order to help people better understand and manage their fuel consumption and avoid fuel debt. Key Responsibilities and accountabilities: Responsible for providing Energy efficiency advice to tenants Advocate on behalf of tenants with our maintenance team and third party organisations including fuel suppliers and the DWP. Promote the Energy Advice service through the delivery of talks, training and presentations. Plan, deliver and report on targeted energy advice campaigns. Maximise tenant s income through accessing funds/grants, promoting uptake of the Warm Home Discount, smart meter rollout and reducing fuel bills and consumption. Page 1 of 5
Establish and maintain a network of contacts in similar roles in the area to share best practice. Assist tenants accessing their UC journals as required. Work with the Rent Team to help maximise tenant income by various means. Support the role of the Welfare Officer when required with carrying out benefit entitlement checks. Keep accurate and up to date records for reporting purposes. Page 2 of 5
Guidance Notes- Energy Efficiency Adviser Key Responsibilities and accountabilities examples While the following lists of examples are not exhaustive, they will give the position holder an idea of the types of activities and level or responsibility expected of them within this role: - Responsible for delivering Energy Efficiency advice and advocacy to Abertay tenants. Through face-to-face, telephone and written advice. Advocate on behalf of tenants with fuel suppliers, DWP, third sector agencies and colleagues. Work as part of a small team to provide advice services. Promote the Energy Advice service and other advice support available from Abertay and other agencies. Accurately sign post tenants to the best source of help. Promote the service via social media, word of mouth and attendance at events and roadshows. Keep up to date with relevant projects and campaigns that other agencies are running. Establish and maintain a network of contacts in similar roles through Knowledge Hub and meetings to share best practice. Plan, deliver and report on specific energy advice campaigns. Be organised and forward thinking to help develop campaigns and targeted work. Keep accurate records to ensure accurate reporting to funders. Be aware of Abertay housing stock and current issues (e.g. incorrect meter types in formerly all electric properties). Maximise tenant s income Carry out basic benefit entitlement checks. Assist using comparison sites for better deals. Page 3 of 5
Assist with switching fuel suppliers. Maximise uptake of the government grants. Identify entitlement for disability benefits and refer appropriately. Assist tenants in accessing/updating their Universal Credit Journals. Work with the Welfare Officer on the migration into Full service Universal Credit to minimise income loss to the association. Carry out any other duties to meet the needs of the business. Attend meetings as required Be willing to work out with normal hours for events (e.g. Fintry Gala day) General Attend and participate in training to support and develop skills and knowledge to meet the association s objectives. Ensure your own safety and that of others by complying with health and safety legislation, policies, procedures and responsibilities. Arrange and attend meetings in the evening as and when required.
