Bringing Europe to people of Słupsk S Our main priorities, accomplishments and objectives

General information As every EUROPE Direct relay, EUROPE Direct Information Network in Słupsk S is a service to help local society find answers to questions about the European Union. The team consists of three persons: Emilia Wysocka Cabaj (team leader), Magdalena Pawłowska and Joanna Pawlukiewicz. The office is hosted by The Department of Promotion and European Integration of The Civic Centre in Słupsk. S The activities of the relay were started on the 1st of May 2005. 2

Our priorities (1) to enable local citizens to obtain required information, advice, assistance and answers to questions about the European Union s s institutions, legislation, policies, programs and funding opportunities, to promote active local and regional debate about the European Union and its policies, 4

Our priorities (2) to allow the European institutions to improve the dissemination of information tailored to local and regional needs, to give the public the opportunity to send feedback to the European Union s s institutions in the form of questions, opinions and suggestions. 6

Main accomplishments (1) enlarging social knowledge about the consequences of Poland s s accession to the EU, the possibilities of benefiting from European grants and funds, the state of adopting Polish legal system, European institutions and history of the EU etc. through systematic and free of charge informing local society, looking for and disseminating relevant information about offers, calls for proposals, European law and European programs among potential target groups as well as promoting logo of EUROPE Direct and symbols of the EU, 8

Main accomplishments (2) organizing and co-organizing organizing numerous events such as Europe is very likeable a mass event to celebrate the 1 st anniversary of Poland s s accession to the EU, political debates, Day of European Regions, The All-Poland Contest of Knowledge about the EU Star Cycle and open meetings, establishing and reinforcing contacts with various institutions, non-government organizations, schools, education centers, European Clubs etc., 10

Our accomplishments (3) the city of Słupsk S benefits from Europe Direct Relay s presence as it contributes to trans regional, cross boarder and international cooperation, establishing a visitor friendly office, equipped with all required facilities and tools, opening of the Internet site. 12

Our accomplishments (4)( helping to organize youth exchange in the frame of Three Way Twinning Cities Cooperation Agreement signed among Słupsk,, Carlisle (the UK) and Flensburg (Germany), completing a project titled I I keep on learning financed from European Social Found and Integrated Program of Regional Development. The project was addressed to people who wished to improve their linguistic skills in order to communicate fluently in French, English and German. The project has 62 graduates. 14

Our accomplishments (5)( Activities taken for the young people: informing schools and young people about the chances and challenges connected with being member country of the EU; consulting and advising both students and teachers while preparing for the contests; organizing information actions and conducting European lessons; participating in such events as those addressed to young people: Day of the Europeans in Smołdzino dzino, From Europe to or Academic Meetings with the EU, Europe community of friendship organized on the occasions of Spring Day or Europe Day; 16

Our accomplishments (6)( carrying out series of lectures devoted among the others to European programs supporting young people and perspectives for the years 2007 2013; publishing on announcements about partner searches or other interesting European initiatives our web site; encouraging young people to participate actively as a quintessential part of civic society; providing them with books, booklets, leaflets, posters as well as giving them the chance to take part in events organized by Europe Direct or serve as volunteer workers; 18

Main objectives (1) to continue running the information relay which is easily accessible for all the members of the local society, with a special attention paid to comprehensive and professional service, to provide access to such facilities as personal computers with a free Internet connection, a copier, a telephone, a TV set allowing to watch Europe by Satellite program, a projection room and a conference room as well as collection of brochures, leaflets, books and other publications about the EU gathered in a small library etc., 20

Main objectives (2) to provide free of charge professional information and advisory service by at least 3 officers, who continually broaden their knowledge and improve their skills, for citizens of Słupsk S and nearby boroughs through direct contacts with clients, media and other institutions. Main information areas concern: Structural Funds and Common Agricultural Policy, gaining European grants for investments of local government and other undertakings, including SMEs, education programs, town twinning program, social issues etc., 21

Main objectives (3) to organize and co-organize organize debates, thematic conferences, seminars, contests, etc., to conduct free consultations every Monday (3:30 5:00 pm) and every last Wednesday of the month (3:30 5:00 pm), to participate in the outdoors events organized by the Civic Center in Słupsk, S 22

Main objectives (4) to distribute information materials in the area, giving lectures, organizing open meetings with citizens, European lessons for schools, to disseminate information about partner searches, trainings, study visits and other initiatives by e-mail, e post and our official web site: www.europedirect.slupsk.pl, 23

Main objectives (5) to design and produce posters, folders, leaflets, promotion gadgets as well as issuing a newsletter and a movie promoting the relay, to broaden cooperation within the network as well as with NGOs, media and other institutions. 24
