We offer a variety of classes, tours and exercise programs to help families prepare for their new baby s arrival. Prenatal Tour Expectant parents are encouraged to take this complimentary tour of Holy Cross Hospital s or Holy Cross Germantown Hospital s mother/baby services. It is recommended to take the tour about four to six weeks before your due date. Pre-registration is required and can be done online at HolyCrossHealth.org. Prepared Childbirth Class Options Online Childbirth Education Class Holy Cross Health offers an online childbirth education class as an alternative for parents who cannot attend a traditional childbirth preparation class due to time constraints, scheduling conflicts or bed rest. Parents needing a refresher class can also enroll. This e-learning program includes information on the discomforts of pregnancy, the process of labor and birth, hospital routines, options for pain relief, postpartum care for mom, and newborn care and feeding. This program is an interactive, web-based tool with animated illustrations, videos, voiceovers and games. Once registered you will be given an access code and a guidebook, The Gift of Motherhood. The access code is good for 60 days from your initial login. A free demo of the program is available at HolyCrossHealth.org. Childbirth Preparation This prepared childbirth course provides evidence-based information on the process of labor and delivery to increase your confidence and lessen anxiety about the birthing process. Additional topics include the role of the partner, medical interventions, medications, cesarean birth and labor coping techniques (breathing, relaxation, positioning, massage, etc.). Instructors are registered nurses who are certified childbirth educators. Lecture, discussion, videos and hands-on practice is included. Signs of labor, the process of labor, medical interventions, medications and pain management will be discussed. This course may be combined with Comfort Measures for Labor for those who desire preparation in the use of breathing, relaxation and comfort measures for the management of labor. This four-hour course is offered for parents who may not be able to fit a full childbirth class series into their schedule or who need a refresher class. Registration is per couple. Comfort Measures for Labor This course focuses on non-medical methods to cope with labor. Participants will learn and practice relaxation, positioning, breathing techniques, massage and other comfort techniques. This three-hour course can be combined with Just the Facts or used as a supplement to a full prepared childbirth class for those who desire further practice. It can also be used as a refresher class. Registration is per couple. January 30 February 27 (6pm-9pm at HCGH) March 21 April 11 May 23 June 6 February 15 April 19 (6pm-9pm at HCGH) June 21 (6pm-9pm at HCGH) 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Conference Center (unless otherwise noted) $40 per couple Birth by Cesarean If you anticipate a surgical birth, this one-session, three-hour class will give you an overview of the reasons for cesarean birth, the procedures of cesarean birth, the role of the partner, and recovery and postpartum considerations. Relaxation techniques will be shared and you will have the opportunity to interact in this discussion and lecture format. Registration is per couple. February 7 May 30 6:30 pm-9:30 pm Conference Center $40 per couple KISS (Kids in Safety Seats) Infant car seats are available to rent for nine months. Participants must attend a 30-minute class. The instructor has been trained by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. No toddler seats are available. For more information or to pre-register, please call 301-754-7158. Becoming a Father For dads only. Babies do not arrive with an instruction manual, yet the unique role of a father has proven life-long importance for your child. This three-hour class, designed for expectant or new dads, will help get you off to a good start in this life-changing adventure. Topics include basic baby care and keeping your baby safe, what it means to be a father, the impact of your role in the life of your child, and adjustments to life with a child. The discussions are facilitated by a childbirth instructor and whenever possible an experienced dad is invited to participate in the class. Babies are welcome. Sunday: February 25 (9:30am-12:30pm) Tuesday: April 3 () : June 20 () $30 Baby Care - Instructions for the Early Weeks (Two-session Baby Care Class) Transitioning to life as a parent brings many joys and challenges. This class covers the basics of caring for your newborn. Hands-on skills will be practiced: picking up and holding a baby; diapering, swaddling and bathing your newborn; and an overview of feeding and burping techniques. Discussion topics include necessary supplies, safety in your home and car, sleeping and crying, when to call the doctor, early developmental milestones with some introductory ideas for play, and traveling with a baby. This five-hour class is offered as an all-day session or two shorter sessions. This three-hour class will provide info to help you get off to a great start to nourish your baby. Topics include affirming the benefits, how breast-feeding works, latching on, positioning, and signs that baby is getting enough. Partners are encouraged to attend. It combines circuit training using body weight and dumbbells to strengthen your body and yoga to relax and stretch in preparation for labor. Modifications are made to assist moms in progressing at their own pace. This class is an excellent opportunity to connect with other expectant mothers. Come join us in getting fit with good friends and music. Postnatal moms are also welcome to attend. 5 Infant CPR and Safety (Birth to 1 year) Keeping your baby safe is a high priority for new parents. Baby proofing, car seat safety, and injury and choking prevention are discussed in this three-hour course, designed for parents and adult family members. A small group setting provides assistance as you learn the hands-on techniques for infant choking rescue and infant CPR. This course is not intended for licensed childcare providers. Accident prevention, safety around vehicles and in your home, and the necessary techniques to rescue a choking child or perform child CPR are covered in this three-hour course, offered in a small group setting. Intended for parents and family, this course is not suitable for licensed childcare providers. Sunday January 28 March 4 May 6 Times: Tuesday April 24 June 12 February 15 Weekdays, 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Weekends, 1pm to 4pm $30 per person Sibling Class Soon-to-be big brothers and big sisters will experience a short class and tour of the maternity suites, to see where they will possibly meet their new sibling for the first time. Age-appropriate activities help children 3 to 10 years old share and prepare for baby's arrival. A t-shirt announcing "I am a Big Brother" or "I am a Big Sister" is provided for each participant. Grandparents-To-Be Making memories, supporting the new parents and keeping your grandbaby safe are just a few of the topics discussed in this two-hour class, designed to give you an opportunity to explore your wonderful new role. Current trends in labor and delivery practices, infant care and feeding will be shared and a short (optional) tour of our maternity services will be provided. Sunday March 18 (1-3pm) Tuesday February 13 April 24 June 26 January 3 Thursday May 24 (at HCGH) 7 to 9 p.m. $15 per person Conference Center (unless otherwise noted) After-Baby Classes Breast-feeding: Moving Beyond the Basics Learn how to enjoy and enhance the nursing experience. This one-session class is for moms with babies three weeks or older. Topics include strategies for returning to work or school; choosing a pump; pumping and storing breast milk; enjoying your baby; involving others; and ongoing challenges such as engorgement, leaking and growth spurts. Babies are welcome. : January 4 May 10 Saturday: April 7 Weekdays, 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. Weekends, 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. $30 of the house and meet other moms and babies in a relaxed environment! Join our weekly discussion group, which is facilitated by experienced childbirth educators in a safe, supportive, non-judgmental environment. The meetings provide an opportunity to ask questions, share experiences, make new friends and get some support. Topics include sharing your birth or adoption story, baby care questions, nutrition and feeding, newborn development, changing relationships with family members, child care options, time management and much more. Registration $20 (Once registered, you can attend unlimited sessions) Start Dates for New Members s: January 24 March 7 April 18 May 30 (no class July 4) 10 to 11:30 a.m. Mom & Baby Yoga/Strength This class is designed for mothers and babies (six weeks-nine months). It will combine yoga and strength training plus elements of cardio. The class will have options to incorporate baby in the pose/move or baby can practice tummy time. Stretching and relaxation will be part of every class. During the cool down at the end of class, moms will have the opportunity to socialize and network. This is a great opportunity to get out 6

REFUND AND RESCHEDULING POLICY Full refunds will be given if a class is cancelled 72 hours or more before the start date, for medical excuses with a doctor's note, if a class is canceled due to insufficient enrollment, or if the class is full when we receive your registration. If you cancel with less than 72 hours' notice, you will be given a refund minus a 10 percent processing fee. If you cancel after the class has started, no refund will be given. Rescheduling can be done at no additional cost 72 hours or more prior to the start date of the class. An additional 10 percent processing fee will be charged to reschedule a class with less than 72 hours notice. Rescheduling after a class has started will require paying the full class fee.
