GCC TM Law and its Implementing Regulations Come into force in KSA Implementing Regulations of the GCC TM Law (September 27, 2016). Although the Implementing Regulations of the GCC TM Law have included the official fees for all TM matters, the Saudi Ministry of Commerce and Investment has the right to apply its own fees. New Trade Names Regulations in Oman MUSCAT - July 24, 2016, The Minister of Commerce and Industry in Oman has issued a ministerial decision No 124/2016 regarding new regulations for the registration of trade names, a press release by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry. The regulations state that the trade name should be formed of original Arabic words or translated into Arabic, and it should not contain foreign words; except for the subsidiaries of international companies registered in the Sultanate or the joint Omaniforeign companies or the wholly foreign-owned firms. The decision states that registered trade name should not be split or changed either by addition or omission, and the subsidiaries of a registered commercial entity are not allowed to go under an independent trade name. As per the regulations, the Ministry of Commerce and Industry may reject a proposed trade name, or change an existing trade name that is deemed noncompliant with the regulations. The regulations ban the registration of trade names that are consistent with well-known local or overseas firms. Banned trade names also include those bearing political, religious or military connotations or are consistent with the names of existing social or charitable organizations. The regulations also ban registration of trade names containing the word Oman or Omaniyah. 2 www.agip.com

Increase in Patent Examination Fees in Syria DAMASCUS July 14, 2016, The Syrian Minister of Interior Trade and Consumer Protection issued the Ministerial Decree No. 1540 on June 30, 2016 which stipulates that the official examination fees of patents to be filed in the name of foreign companies have been increased in Syria. The ministerial decision has entered into force in Syria on July 1, 2016. In light of this increase, AGIP will amend its schedule of charges by adding the actual increased fees only, and its newly modified fees will be posted at AGIP website. Change in the Amounts of the Individual Fee in Bahrain WIPO For further information, please refer to Information Notice No. 23/2016 as follows: 1. The Government of Bahrain has notified to the Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) a declaration modifying the amounts of the individual fee payable with respect to Bahrain under Article 8(7) of the Madrid Protocol. GENEVA July 20, 2016, The amounts of the individual fee payable in respect of Bahrain will change, according to WIPO. The fee will be 1,710 Swiss francs for each class of goods or services, when designating Bahrain in an international application or subsequently. Where the mark is a collective or certification mark, the amount of this fee will come to 2,105 Swiss francs. The same amounts will apply when renewing an international registration in which Bahrain has been designated. 2. In accordance with Rule 35(2)(b) of the Common Regulations under the Madrid Agreement and Protocol, the Director General of WIPO has, after consultation with the Office of Bahrain, established the following new amounts, in Swiss francs, of the said individual fee: Application or Subsequent Designation: 1,710 for each class of goods or services Where the mark is a collective or certification mark: 2,105 for each class of goods or services Renewal: 1,710 for each class of goods or services 3 www.agip.com

Therefore, these amounts will be payable where Bahrain: a. is designated in an international application which is received, or is deemed to have been received under Rule 11(1)(c), by the Office of origin on or after that date; or b. is the subject of a subsequent designation which is received by the Office of the Contracting Party of the holder on or after that date, or is filed directly with the International Bureau of WIPO on or after that date; or c. has been designated in an international registration which is renewed on or after that date.
