The Program of the EuroEnviro 2010 A brief introduction The annual symposium for environmental students in Europe the EuroEnviro2010 will be held from the 7 th to 16 th of May. We invite about 100 students from Europe and all over the world to come to Graz and, Austria. We have developed a program focusing on one of the most important issues concerning our future, Sustainable Lifestyle Ideas for Mobility and Consumption. The program offers ten interesting days focusing on options for a sustainable lifestyle. By having diversified days with workshops, excursions, discussions and lectures, students from all over world will get to know each other in an international environment. We will offer ten impressive days that will allow students to discover the heart of our continent, and gain deep insight and experience on the topic of Sustainable Lifestyle. The Opening The program will be opened by a city rally through Graz to get to know the new town and to help the students lose their worries of moving around in a foreign environment. We also want the students to start thinking about the topic Sustainable Lifestyle. After the rally, there will be the official public opening of the EuroEnviro 2010, by having an interesting plenary discussion where we have invited thinkers and doers from politics, science, and the business world. Sustainable Lifestyle: Focus on Consumption (Graz) The following few days consist mainly of lectures and workshops. Therefore scientists, involved people from NGOs, companies, and other research institutes are invited to share their knowledge. We will start the day with lectures and then move on to more specialized workshops where participants will get the chance for hands-on experiences. The workshops will focus on the following topics: Social dimension Ethics in sustainability Handicrafts Working with sustainable materials Sustainable Lifestyle The political dimension Business Towards a sustainable economy Fair shopping Consumers change the world Sustainability - Decision making and technologies Material-use Strategies for a healthy planet
Sustainable Lifestyle: Best Practice (Graz, Ökoregion Kaindorf, Pöllau) To create a useful knowledge and exciting experience there will also be some excursions to local sustainable companies including a chocolate manufacturer and the Eco-Region Kaindorf. Stopping in a rural region for one day, geographically right between Graz and, allowing us to escape all the stress in the cities, and will give us time to focus on the topics. As the EuroEnviro 2010 continues, the acquired knowledge will be modified into a useful report which will partly be created by the participants and partly by the lecturers. The evening program consists of relaxing exercises, where fun and getting to know each other comes to the foreground. With games and challenges like presenting your own country, the connection within the group should become tighter. Sustainable Lifestyle: Focus on Mobility () The last days in are dedicated to the field of Mobility. As before, we will provide a mixture of lectures and hands-on workshops. The provided workshops will focus on the following: Social Dimension - Effects of mobility; Health care Public Transport - Bus, train, tram, ship, metro Cars - Individual motorized transport On the bike - Safety, infrastructure Walking - Shared space; What's left for walking in cities? Gender aspects in spatial planning Climate and environment To illustrate the topic and deepen understanding, we will also provide excursions and a plenary session.
