SCHOLARSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT IN ENGINEERING SCIENCES - M.Sc.- In keeping with its mission to support the development of advanced human resources in Chile, CSIRO-Chile International Centre of Excellence (CSIRO-Chile ICE) in collaboration with University of Chile, Advanced Mining Technology Center (AMTC) will award 1 scholarship to high caliber candidate who wish to pursue a Master degree at the University of Chile. This scholarship program refers to the P3p2 Project entitled Smart Open Pit Slope Deformation Management. The scholarship will be offered to the top-ranked applicants who have been admitted to the selected graduate program. This support will allow the scholar to fully devote themselves to their studies and seek out the best research mentors in their chosen fields. The total scholarship support is limited to a maximum of two years, full-time equivalence for Master s student. Qualified national and international candidates are encouraged to apply. Without exception, this scholarship is tenable only at the University of Chile. To be considered eligible for support, as of the application deadline, you must: 1. Be admitted into a full-time Graduate Program at the University of Chile; 2. Hold, or expect to hold (at the time you take up the award), a degree in science or engineering from an university with standing recognized by the University of Chile (if you have a degree in a field other than science or engineering, UCH, AMTC and CSIRO-Chile ICE may accept your application at their discretion); 3. Intend to pursue, full-time graduate studies and research at a Master s level in an Eligible Program (see Eligible Programs & Areas); and 4. Having obtained a first-class average in each of the last two completed years of study (fulltime equivalent). You may be eligible to apply for this scholarship, if you enter the Master s program directly from your Bachelor s degree and have completed between four and 12 months of studies in the Graduate Program. You are responsible for choosing the type of award for which you apply. You are NOT eligible to receive this scholarship support while you are in a qualifying year of study. Eligible Programs and Areas. This scholarship program is provided under the project Smart Open Pit Slope Deformation Management : In 2013, a project Smart Open Pit Slope Management Project commenced as part of the R&D collaboration: 1. CSIRO (through its International Centre of Excellence in Chile). 2. The University of Chile. 3. AMTC. 4. Elexon Electronics. 5. Itasca 6. Government (CORFO) and mining companies (AMSA, AngloAmerican, BHPB, CODELCO). The general objective was to address this technology gap and develop an in-ground deformation monitoring system capable of: 1. identifying when and where the deformation develops 2. Identifying the nature and scale of the deformation 3. detecting any changes in pore pressure that may accompany the deformation 4. transmitting the information wirelessly to the surface in real time.the applicant must be enrolled in one of the following graduate programs at the University of Chile: Master Program o Master in Sciences, mention in Computer Science. Specific eligible areas include: Data Analysis Development of applications based on the study of data as a source of knowledge and expansion. Using Machine Learning and Data Mining to automate the process of variables generation to display safety alerts and information to assist in the decision making process. Maximum total duration of scholarship support. The Scholarship will initially be granted for one year (12 months) of full-time equivalency. Scholarship support will be renewed for the same period to reach a lifetime maximum of two years (24 months). Renewal of scholarship will depend on the academic record in the graduate program and research progress. Acceptance process to Graduate Program at the University of Chile The University of Chile is responsible for reviewing applications to its Graduate Programs. The University of Chile review committee evaluates each application within the standards of its Graduate Programs. Therefore, AMTC and CSIRO-Chile ICE are not responsible for the admission process. You will have the opportunity to participate in this scholarship once you have received confirmation of admission to the graduate program at the University of Chile. UCH, AMTC and CSIRO-Chile ICE selection committee will review all received applications; the committee will make their recommendations according to the selection criteria. Selection criteria.
