It is not information that is required by the Trust in running its day to day business. 8) Between January 2009 and the end of March 2012, what were the ten highest rates paid to agency staff for shifts? In each case, please specify: a. the number of hours worked by the member of staff in question b. the type of work carried out by the member of staff (i.e. the job role and the department) c. the total amount paid for the shift d. the organisation through which the shift was arranged (i.e. the locum agency, nurse bank or nurse recruitment agency in question). Please find attached information under FOI 011090 for agency pay 2010/11 and 2011/2012 In response to a Freedom of Information request on 29.10.2010 - The single highest payment for a single agency nurse shift was 688.54. This nurse was grade RN, the nurse worked within the Emergency Department for 9.75 hours at night from 21:00 hrs to 07:15am. This was on 31.7.09 to 1.8.2009. Also in response to the same Freedom of Information request - The highest payment for an agency doctor was 742.42. the grade of the doctor was Senior House Officer, the doctor worked within the Emergency Department. The number of hours worked was 8.25, this was from 17:00 hrs to 01:15 hrs, the shift started on 4.5.2009 and finished 5.5.2009. Agency staff are used due to a combination of reasons e.g. covering vacancies, sickness and maternity leave. Additional spend will have been directly attributable to the Trust performing a significant additional level of activity over and above the plan. If the response to question 8 does not answer your question fully enough please let me know.

Please see question 5, the Trust operates its own internal bank. 10) Overtime: Please confirm if your trust has a policy which limits the amount of overtime, bank or locum work that staff working in the following divisions can take on in addition to their core duties: Admin and clerical (including senior management) AHP/HSS (Including scientific and technical roles) Medical locums (with consultant costs identified separately) (preferably split between qualified, unqualified and midwifery) Yes the Trust has a Working Time Policy. The Trust does not pay overtime to medical grades. Hospitals occasionally employ locum staff to cover temporary vacancies etc rather than rely on overtime working. Doctors are typically subject to the European Working Time Directive which restricts working hours during a particular period. 11) European Working Time Directive a. Does the trust measure compliance with the European Working Time Directive? b. If the answer to part a is yes, please tell me the percentage of staff shifts which are compliant with the European Working Time Directive. c. Of your staff, how many have signed a waiver or opt out allowing them to work hours in excess of the limit set down by the European Working Time Directive. Please provide this figure as: i. A total ii. A percentage of your total workforce The Trust does not pay overtime to medical grades. As the Trust currently has 5,321 primary assignment staff including bank staff, so the cost to review all personnel files would exceed the 450 FOI requirement. 12) Management consultants.
