Samaniego Manila Observatory Definitions Grant- a type of assistance (financial) in order to implement/conduct a specific activity or purpose Fellowship a financial grant made to a fellow in a college or university (focus on educational and professional development) Types of grants General purpose or operating support grants can use it to support the general expenses of operating libraries Program or project support grants to support a specific, connected set of activities, from start to finish, explicit objectives and a predetermined cost. Types of grants Study/Training/Internship/Research grants in support to educational and professional development Travel grants to assist an individual to attend a conference or participate in a training program outside his/her country 1

Know potential funding sources for libraries and related fields Check for grant initiatives from both international and local organizations Learn more about the previous projects assisted by these organizations Keywords: Call for Proposals; Call for Papers, Conference bursaries, Scholarships Send Letters of Inquiries (LOI) to funding agencies to determine availabilities of grants Be updated: join mailing lists and professional groups to get updates Most organizations post availability of grants on websites and mailing lists Always have an updated curriculum vitae and sample research papers/abstracts Acquire some training on proposal writing A well written proposal is a key for qualification Follow all instructions and requirements of the funding agency and recognize their supports 3

Qualifications Candidates must be a national of Asia and Oceania. Committed letter of application including the title of paper and the session/section to be presented in IFLA and a well presented CV Professional background and experience: level of education, positions held and professional experience in general.
