Liz Hartstone Executive Search (LHES) Scholarship Scheme The Liz Hartstone Executive Search (LHES) Scholarship has been established to encourage applications from students who aspire to achieve the highest levels in their studies and wish to go onto work in hotels. Scholarships will be awarded to those students who can best demonstrate what it means to them to secure a place at the Edge Hotel School, how a LHES scholarship will help them to achieve their goals and why they will be an asset to the Edge Hotel School and the hospitality industry in general. How much is available? Each LHES Scholarship is worth 1,000 and is available for one student who enrols at the Edge Hotel School at the scheduled intake date of September 2018. Terms and conditions: Eligibility Applicants must be able to meet the following eligibility criteria: be a UK or EU (home fee paying) student; have applied to study and register for a degree at the Edge Hotel School, with first enrolment in September 2018. Criteria Liz Hartstone Executive Search and the Edge Hotel School wants scholars to be proud to put Liz Hartstone Executive Search Scholar at the Edge Hotel School on their CV. The criteria that the assessment panel will use reflects the values of both the LHES and the Edge Hotel School. The assessment panel will review applicants response to the criteria listed below. The applicant should address each of these in their submission. The maximum number of words for the written submission is 1,000. 1) The Edge Hotel School believes that all young people should have the chance to learn in a way that suits their strengths and best prepares them for their future careers. They strongly believe that for many people and for the hospitality industry 'learning by doing' is the right way to learn. The applicant should explain what they understand by learning by doing and how it suits their style of learning. 2) The Edge Hotel School wants to develop future leaders of the hospitality industry and Edge Hotel School graduates will have integrity and be professional, hospitable, passionate and motivated. The applicant should explain what they understand by these values and describe a situation where they have already demonstrated one or more of the values to show why they would be an asset to the Edge Hotel School and to the hospitality industry. 3) LHES and the Edge Hotel School want to grant the scholarship to someone who will benefit most from receiving the scholarship. The applicant should describe what the award of the Scholarship would mean to them. 4) The applicant should describe their future career ambitions to show the panel why they will be an asset to the industry.
Along with the written submission, applicants are required to film a 30 60 second video talking though their written submission and why they should be selected for the scholarship. Videos can be provided as a YouTube (or other video service) link via email when submitting their written application. A representative from LHES will select the recipient of the scholarship based on both the written and video submission. Deadline Dates The completed application must be received prior to the deadline date indicated below. Applications received after the stated deadline date will not be considered. Liz Hartstone Executive Search (LHES) Educational Trust Scholarship Scheme Terms and Conditions 2018 Terms and conditions The terms and conditions of the Liz Hartstone Executive Search Scholarships offered via the Edge Hotel School are as follows: 1. Eligibility To be eligible for the LHES Scholarship an applicant must meet all of the following conditions: be a UK or EU (home fees) student; have applied to study and register for a full-time Foundation or Bachelors degree at the Edge Hotel School, with first enrolment in September 2018; The following students are NOT eligible for the LHES Scholarship regardless of meeting the above criteria: Students transferring in from another UK higher education institution; Part-time students; Students on leave of absence. 2. Change course offers If you do not meet the conditions of your offer at confirmation, but are offered and accept an alternative course, you will not be eligible for the scholarship. 3 Scholarship termination If the student withdraws from their studies, or is required to withdraw, no further payments will be made and any scholarship funds already paid to the student will become due and repayable. If the student ceases to meet the eligibility criteria set out above, the scholarship will be terminated and no further payments will be made. The scholarship will also be terminated if the student ceases to be registered as a student with the Edge Hotel School at the University of Essex, or for good cause at the discretion of the Principal of the Edge Hotel School or his/her nominee for this purpose. 4. Suspension of Scholarship In exceptional circumstances and at the discretion of the Principal of the Edge Hotel School, the scholarship may be temporarily suspended until the student is able to continue their studies. 5. Payment arrangements The scholarship will be paid directly to the recipient. The payment of 1,000 will be made two weeks after the student has been notified that they have been awarded the scholarship. 6. Use of Data By accepting the scholarship, recipients are giving LHES, the Edge Hotel School and its partners and affiliates, permission to use their details for promotional purposes and may be asked to provide a case study and be photographed, both of which may be used in publications and/or websites belonging to LHES, the Edge Hotel School and its partners and affiliates. Information submitted via the scholarship application form will be treated as confidential under the terms of the Data Protection Act 1998. The data will be kept secure and accurate and will only be
processed for various administrative, academic and health and safety purposes and as detailed in the privacy policy appearing at www.edgehotelschool/privacy. 7. The award of a scholarship is at the full discretion of the Edge Hotel School and the Edge Hotel School will not disclose reasons for any decisions made in respect of an unsuccessful application. The decision whether or not to award a scholarship is final. 8. All scholarship students should be in good mental and physical health and must advise the scholarship office of any medical conditions they may have. 9. It is the scholar's responsibility to set a good example, e.g. strive for best results, attend classes, finish the course on time and continue to demonstrate the exemplary student attributes by which he/she was awarded the scholarship. 10. All scholars will take part in welcoming new scholars to the scholarship programme by attending scholarship evenings, etc. when invited. 11. The Edge Hotel School reserves the right to make reasonable changes to these terms and conditions at any time and will advise valid scholars if this occurs, as and when required. 12. The scholar must maintain living costs for the duration of their studies at the Edge Hotel School. Note: These terms and conditions apply to scholarships awarded in the year 2018. The Edge Hotel School reserves the right to update these terms and conditions as necessary should the award be available in future years.
