Research, Science and Technology structuring a knowledge-based society in the EU and Russia; promoting a high rate of competitiveness and sustainable economic growth by modernization of the national economies and implementation of advanced scientific achievements; strengthening and optimizing the links between research and innovation; maintaining of small and medium size entrepreneurship in the field of research and innovation; addressing global challenges and reinforcing people-to-people contacts. 5

Research, Science and Technology FP6: 280 projects (total budget about 2.8 billion) with RU participation; Russia s share about 120 million; Russia has expressed an interest to become an associated country to the FP; Russia s co-financing amounted to 20 million for the 6th FP; WP2008 4 coordinated calls (in the areas of Food, Agriculture and Biotechnology as well as Energy); WP2009 2 coordinated calls (in Health and in Nanotechnologies); Committees and Working Groups (Steering Committee of the Science and Technology Agreement; working groups on key thematic priorities such as health, food, agriculture & biotechnology, nanotechnologies, energy, aeronautics, mobility, space research, nuclear fission energy research and environment; Euratom-Russia Coordinating Committee). 6

Road Map for the Common Space of Research and Education, including Cultural Aspects Erasmus Mundus 130 Russian students, 41 academics; (2007-2008: 50 students, 16 academic staff); Partnership between the master courses: about 15 Russian education institutions have been involved so far; Erasmus Mundus External Cooperation Window: 2. Education - ENPI 2007: partnership of 20 universities (8 EU and 12 Russian) led by the University of Hohenheim in Germany was awarded a project worth 5 million supporting the mobility of 262 Russian students to the EU and 48 students and teachers to Russia; - ENPI 2008: Russia s allocation amounted to 12.35 million; selection of three partnerships; at least 435 scholarships and three new partnerships of EU-Russia universities. 10

After 1,5 year of RUSERA Network activity (in 2006) we had: network of RINs was established in 37 Russian regions; 14 project proposals which were prepared and submitted with the assistance of RUSERA managers got financing from different EU Programmes (FP6-NMP, INTAS, TACIS, TEMPUS). 17
Perspectives of EU-RU university cooperation The existing RUSERA Network will provide support to a more effective use of the mechanisms available for EU-RU RTD and academic cooperation, enabling researchers and teachers to better exploit the opportunities available for setting up long lasting partnerships.
