Meeting called to order at 4:14 p.m., Chairperson Verburg in the chair. Present: Anderson, Bleke, Handlin, James, Ryskamp, Verburg 6 Absent: Stewart - 1 B. Introduction of Guests None at this time. C. Review and Approval of Agenda Motion by Trustee James to approve the agenda as presented. Motion carries. D. Open Comments Ryan Mammina, former GRCC student addressed the Board regarding the success he has had transferring from GRCC to the University of Michigan. 11:64

11:65 October 17, 2011 E. Special Order of Business 2010-2011 Audit Report Lisa Freiburger, VP for Finance and Administration, presented the board with the monitoring report on financial condition. Representatives from Andrews, Hooper & Pavlik, P.L.C. presented the Board with the results of the 2010-11 Audit. The College received a clean, unqualified opinion, which is the highest ranking the college could receive from the auditing firm. II. MONITORING REPORTS F. Report (s) David Selmon provided the Board with an update on the Wealthy Learning Corner GRPS High School Partnership Program. Jill Nutt provided an update on the Pell Grant Board Briefing Memo. G. Consideration of Additional Policy Agenda Topics Trustee Bleke received support to schedule an additional Board retreat meeting before October 28 to discuss Student Success. H. Review Status of Agenda Items President Ender reviewed the status of the tracking system. III. UPDATES I. Student Report Student Congress President Tonja Lofton presented the student report. J. Foundation Update None at this time. K. Board Chair Update Trustee James provided the board with an update on the MCCA Board of Directors meeting she attended. Trustee Bleke provided the board with an update on the ACCT National Conference he attended. Chairperson Verburg announced that the GRCC Board of Trustees will not be voting in regard to Senate Bill 7. Instead, the board is opting for the cap on healthcare costs as outlined in the law, which requires no formal vote by the Board. Board discussion regarding the Michigan Trustee Institute for Student Success held at GRCC September 27-29, 2011. L. President s Report Donna Kragt provided an update on the fall 2011 Enrollment Report. President Ender announced that there is a reception in the Collins Art Gallery for Art Faculty going on this evening and he invited the Board to stop by after the meeting. November 2011 Events

11:67 October 17, 2011 November 10, 2011, 7:30 p.m. The 2010 Guitar Foundation of America International Solo Competition Winner Recital Hall (Room 200) of the Grand Rapids Community College Music Center at the corner of Ransom and Lyon Streets. Johannes Moller The Swedish guitarist and composer Johannes Möller has captivated audiences throughout the world with charismatic and soulful performances. After playing his first public concerts at the age of 13, his performances now total over 500 and span Europe, Asia, South and North America. In 2010 he was awarded first prize in the GFA Concert Artist Competition, considered by many to be the most prestigious guitar competition in the world, resulting in a 50-concert tour and a recording with the Naxos label. As a performer, Johannes s artistry has reached well beyond the usual guitar circles. This was confirmed in 2008 when he won the Dutch Vriendenkrans Concours where he was competing against performers in all instrumental categories. As a part of this award his name has been engraved on a metal plate that can be seen in the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Critics have also noted his special qualities, writing of his playing "Guitarist Johannes Möller achieved miracles with his lucid, spacious playing" (London Evening Standard) Admission for all concerts* is $10 general admission and $7 for students and seniors.
